there are 3 colurs of lures, green yellow and purple. they each typically can catch either fat fish, skinny fish or medium fish iirc. spots are of no consequence. the different coloured scales come from different colured fish. every colour fish is a different level. example: yellow is a level 11 fish.
There are no specific good spots really, any spot that fish bite is as good as the next....
Lure type doesnt effect things that much , you will get a bit more of the specific type(nimble/fat/ugly) but not a huge change.
To get the colored scales (and the new C5 accessory parts such as angel wings), you must use night-fishing lures, at in-game night time (00:00-0600) check the map to see game time. I think it works out about 1 real time hour out of every 4.
If your fishing lvl is too high just buy a fisherman potion for the color you want.(as long as its lower then your current lvl)
Off topic but I've been looking at what players levels can you get certain expertise but can't find anything. For example at what player levels is one qualified to advance from expertise level 7 to 8? Maybe a full listing can be added to the guide. Hopefully it's not there and I just missed it. I was in a rush and just skimmed through.
