"Changes to Player Death Penalties

The following changes have been made to death penalties of player characters.

Unchaotic character: No items are dropped at death.
Chaotic character: Items are dropped at a lower rate than before. PK count still determines item drops, while Karma influences susceptibility to the combat penalty.
When characters die, they will now receive a penalty of reduced combat capability at a certain rate (about the same rate as the previous item drop rate).

The penalty for death is applied cumulatively. If you die again after the penalty has been applied, the new penalty is applied on top of the existing penalty.

The penalty can be viewed in the Status window and it has a permanent duration.

You can recover your combat capability level by using Scroll: Recovery items. There are recovery scrolls for each level and each character must use one appropriate for his level (per expertise skill). Chaotic characters cannot use recovery scrolls.

You can also recover your combat capability level through Black Judge NPCs for a fee, including chaotic characters. The Black Judges are in Floran Village, the Wastelands, and Hardin's Academy.

Charms of Luck have been changed to have the effect of preventing this new penalty to combat capability"

Can someone explain this process. I do not understand the whole penalty thing.

Essentially, if you are white, instead of having a % chance to drop an items you have a % chance to get this "death sickness". If you die again and get the death sickness "again" it will be worse than before. Subsequent deaths will give you a chance to make it worse.

The only way to get rid of it is by using a scroll that is related to your lvl (I presume C grade, B Grade, A grade etc.)

However, if you are red you can still drop. It is just related to how many pk's you have and it is a lower drop % than before.
What does this "Death Sickness" do?

it is like a debuff when you die. If you are white, instead of dropping items, you have a chance to get debuffed. The debuff wil continue to stack on itself each time that % to get it hits when you die. The only way to get it off is to buy some scrolls and use them until it is gone.
The buff sicnkness drops every stats you got.
Its a little like the Guild Wars system i guess.
The only way in GW to get rid of the penalty was to make exp or just log out.
But now you need to port allways to a Black Judge to buy a scroll (i dont think they will be cheap at all)... dunno if its so good.
Did anyone have the prices for this new scrolls?
50k on an A grade scroll, 2k on an NG one

Not sure about the rest, I don't remember the exact price either but it's very close to what I wrote, whats affect it is probably taxes so :)

the chance is not that big either to get debuffed, like we did a test on PTS, after 10 deaths we got the debuff twice.
Man... NCSoft screwed that up...

50k is rather cheap and quite frankly I would rather risk a debuff and having to spend 50k to get rid of it than drop any of my gear.

That is for sure :D
I think this is the best thing NC coming out with... i love it
Some players complained that this means they can't train bots anymore for item drops - but it also means that the bots who are continually stripped of their gear and delevelled using guards in town are going to have to fork out for enough scrolls to get their stats back up to anything usable. Bot tax :)

Nothing is stopping the bots from simply deleveling on one another, no debuffs for PvP and the fact that you only get debuffed as often as you would have dropped an item, and the fact that the debuffs are extreemly weak untill stacked high. Need I mention the fact that bots can now walk around in top gear with no fear of droping, which means they can handle lager trains...and who is going to waste time and resourses (+personal risk) to train bots for nothing?

Edit add: Don't get me wrong. I will be happy when I die and don't drop some DC part or something but there is NO doubt that this patch makes life easier for the bots. I have mixed feelings about this one as is clear by my post. I hate anything that makes life easier for bots but makeing life easier for real players is ok IMO...as long as we don't go to far and end up with WoW. I wonder if this got changed because some Korean kid killed himself after dropping his S grade.
Well from all I've read here so far I have a mixed feeling about the new patch, but I do agree that having a certain % chance of getting the debuff and know for sure that I'll not drop any items is fairer then having to fight my way through 5 trains launched upon my team because the lazy PvP'r is hoping on a cheap earned A grade helmet or robe or armor piece.

I'd rather pay the 50K for the scroll then have to get all started again on an A grade item. I agree it's probably not the most ideal addition, but I think most people prefer the chance of catching a sniff then to die and loose it all.

As what automated friends are concerned (bots iow), I don't think one can ever make any solution that will guarantee a waterproof closure on that subject :s
well.... i think i got a lil problem right here . I started playing friday and i was making some money while waiting for my brother to buy his account.

SO.. i got to lv 19 before he could buy it then i wanted to delevel to about lv 12 ....
Now i have a lv.7 dead sickness i stoped at lv 15 when i saw that. I tried to use a scroll but only 1 work .

im now at lv.6 sickness n the scroll of resto tell me "invalid target" :( can someone help me plz ?
You will most likely have to lvl it off, by going up in lvl ofcourse. It should go away after some time.
ok . that was my 2nd choice .. heh so i need to gain back the xp i lost or more ? and about the 6 scroll i bought r they wasted ? :P
Nah lvl up :)

Those scrolls are never wasted, if you cant use them just sell them to someone else.
heheh ok thx for the quick answer :)

i got some slow lvlin to do
At what time did you start using the scrolls and was it the right level?

The scrolls are in accordance to the skill levels a toon has:

1-19 : None grade
20-39: D grade
40-51: C grade
52-60: B Grade
61-75: A Grade
As of 76: S grade

I have yet to encounter the sickness so I don't know the exact technicallities around the usage of the scrolls and hwo many time you need to leave between each scroll you use. On that fact I leave it to other people who have experienced it alreday to help you out. But to me it could be that you used the wrong lvl scroll...
One scroll removes one level of the death debuff and I don't belive there is a cool down on them at all
So basically if the OP has the correct scrolls he should be able to take all levels of Sickness away...
Btw what % of stats you lose? Did any1 check this out?
Like lvl1 1% lvl2 2% and so on? or something different..
I am not that curious to die like 20 times to check it out <3
The death penalty is stackale up to 15.
Then 15 recovery scrolls are necessary to remove all penalities. (Source: Japanese official message boards)
Thanks to a tester in the real server.

Haven't had the sickness myself although I've died a couple of times already...But if I understood correctly it's a small % on the first lvl and goes up as you gain sickness lvl's added. But in what correct figures or % they add up I wouldn't know. Only know that lvl one is not that bad an dyou won't need to stop hunting to run for a scroll. I'd suggest you just have one with you just in case ;)
