What happens if the enchant fails? I assume you get +0 skill but is there any other penalty applied?

the book is the main reason ppl dont go oe crazy when they hit 76
only option to get them is 1 when you finish third class, castles and olypiad
currently sell for 6 millish on gustin
i failed 3 +1 golems in a row at 77% success
