Lineage Radio's Siege of the Week

General Discussion Started Last reply 16 posts
Lineage Radio is always looking for ways to reach its listeners. The station has decided that covering sieges would be a wonderful addition to the current radio programming. But how should the siege reporting be implemented? The station is looking for your ideas and feedback!

The intrepid DJs and staff considered trying to cover the most if not all of the sieges, but that proved a bit too daunting and would require a lot of manpower. So after a little brainstorming, Lineage Radio is proposing covering one siege a week and highlighting that siege above all the other ones. The station can pick a siege from all the servers and call it the “Siege of the Week”.

<ul type="square"> Do you think this is a good idea? Do you think all sieges should be covered at the same time? Would you sign up to have your siege covered for “Siege of the Week”? What would be your favorite aspects of the above options, and what would you change?Lineage Radio has a few ideas on how to broadcast the siege, but the station also needs your ideas and opinions on these points below:

<ul type="square"> How would you go about broadcasting a live siege? Would you do it all? Do you think it’s too hard to broadcast live from both sides (attacker and defender)? Would you rather have a recap of what went on with the siege? An overview of what went on while the siege was going on? Would you like to hear interviews with the winners of the siege of the week? What do you think needs to be added to make the idea more appealing?Lineage Radio is excited to hear what you think of the idea before the station begins work on this project. So please make your opinions heard and tell us what you think! Thank you!
I believe it would be a great idea, if not the best so far for Lineage 2 radio.

Since there is 5 servers each time I guess it could be a bit hard to cover them all. Maby cover 2 of them and then maby sumerise the rest.

Not really sure how it should work thought, but listen to 5 different servers and there sieges at once could defectively be confusing, plus I bet many lose interest if it's not about there server either.

But I'm all for it.
I like this idea. But its going to be pretty boring to listen to sieges on other servers.
I like the idea.

Might be better to just hit the highlights. cover all signed up clans, and give bigger picture info.

"Alliance X gathered to the south of the castle. Prepared to rush the gates. After buffing rushed the gates Didn't realize that "Alliance Y" had a force to the West. Western force hit them 2 minutes into siege...

Maybe something like that.
I'm with Sovrath. Highlights would be best option.

They could cover what they thought was the best siege from Saturday and from Sunday from each server and then report on them during peak listening times one server per day (except for saturday and sunday). This way if you only want to find out about your sever's best sieges you could log in at the time your server is set to be reported on and just listen to that.

Maybe having alliances submit requests to be covered might be better as a lot of time might be wasted deciding which siege would be the best to cover. I know on Gustin usually only 1 or 2 of the sieges happening are of any interest.

However to make a good report they would need to have one person viewing from a good vantage point wherever the actions is happening. Sometimes this could mean being on a castle parappete (or maybe a watchtower), in the throne room, or even on a hill on the way to the castle. It's hard to know where the action is if you are not a part of it.

Quick one question interviews with some of the winners would be a great addition to the report, but not full blown interviews as most of the time they will not be willing to talk about the more interesting parts and could turn into the winning side just making fun of their oposition.
There has to be something in between "all the sieges" and "one siege per week". In order of increasing coverage:
- One siege per siege day
- One siege per siege window
- One siege per server per week

I guess one siege per server per week works out to about one siege per siege window, which would be ideal. Everyone would get to hear about their server each week. Of course, ideal is quite a bit of work. :)

You could also do a tiered coverage (like a sporting event), where the main event gets the play-by-play, interspersed with highlights from other sieges going on. Although sporting events are covered in real-time, this could be done after the fact.
I don't think a live coverage is possible or desirable. Not possible because of the requirements of both presence - you have to be in the right server, at the right siege, else we might end up with a "90 minutes into the siege, still no sign of any attackers. The defenders start to drink vodka and play ball games." type of siege report - and experience of the radio speaker - live radio coverage of a sport event, which is virtually the same as a siege event, is a hard job which only few are able to do nowadays since the advent of television made it easier for the average customer to just watch the event instead of it being described to them. Not desirable because of the possibility of intelligence gathering via the radio stream. Finally, most of the time I'm busy actually watching the sieges on my server when they're happening already.

As such, I'm in favour of a "siege highlights" kind of reporting happening after the sieges. Interviews are a good idea, too - mocking your opposition in them is just fine, since it leads to more conflict and shows what kind of a loser the speaker is, after all. :) I'd also love to see more (written) after-action reports ("AARs" for short), but most participants don't seem to have much time nor desire to write them. :(
lets do this ...

one of your GM;'s whos not due to work when that particular siege happens uses his invisibility and runs around in a siege making a replay.

then share the replay and we can all see what goes on without all the clutter of regular fraps, nor giving out any gm info.

deal?
a gm made siege video would be boring

Siege highlights, or maby even some Fraps highlights sent in of like 30 second clips from each server if they want to and put into a video thats released each week? Hell i know a couple people who would prob do it for free ;P
how would this be possible? From the viewing crystals you cant see crap. Most of the fights are no where close to the front gate. It is suicide to go through the front gate thus the action is very limited there.

Are they going to be following groups around on/off the siege field? I sure wouldnt want them around my side if they are going to be announcing to everyone what is going on. Doesnt matter if it is attacking or defending. There are enough spies.

Once they walk on the siege field they are open targets to all. When they die and the action moves away from their body, then what? We just get silence until they run all the way back out?

Covering a siege while it is going on seems stupid to me. Highlights after the siege is over, could be ok, but like someone else said, it would be boring to hear about other servers sieges.
i think play by play is horrible idea

" oh whats that , there is a force of 50+ players to the west ? " ..........................................
vent/ts : hey XXXXXXX, dj just said ally XXXX to the west

i know i would be uber ****** if my position was given away for the sake of a radio show, would ruin seiges IMO

highlights, maybe vid clips at most.
I would suggest avoiding play by play.

Heres what I would do:

Recruit reporters for each server in the same way you recruit DJs. The reporters would file their reports on a website that is open only to reporters/DJs/other Lineage Radio staff.

Each reporter would post a report before the siege (who is signed up and who has showed up so far), then at the 30-minute mark, 1-hour, 90 minute mark they post the status of the siege. Then they post the final outcome and any additional highlights once the siege is over. Witty comments can be encouraged.

The DJ can read the reports and relay the information to listeners between songs.

BTW to make it easier for reporters, they have option of using the control towers.

Just my 2 cents.
I think it would better to have it like Sports Center, where after the seiges they would go through highlights. Lineage Radio = The ESPN of L2

"And here comes a group of archers past the defenders! They ... could ... go ... all ... the .... way!"

Chris Berman is rolling in his grave.
Ironically, I could do that.

I have the sound byte for it, and I've been told I have an announcer's voice.
Thanks for everyone's input, I already had some ideas about what we could offer in the ways of siege reports and many of you confirmed my ideas on the situation. hehe we are working to have more content for you guys to check out in the near future.

Thanks for the input and feel free to keep adding it here, i check this thread.....idunno...at least 3 times a day so go ahead and post :)

Thanks
