Lol gambling is wrong? Don't be stupid. You could compare this to a kid and a pack of Pokemon cards, they pay money wanting something good in the pack, they don't always get it. Is that gambling too? Its a fun event, if you don't like it just don't [censored] participate, we get most of our events from Korea, it had a purpose there, it was a small event to promote their soccer team during the world cup, it has less purpose here so they just used it as a sort of Halloween thing.
Actually, the odd thing about this event is Korea is much stricter about gambling; you need to provide proof you're over 18 just to bet on the monster track or the lottery tickets ingame, and they removed dice entirely in Korea for promoting gambling.

Besides that, people under the age of 18 shouldnt even play L2(note, i said *under*. if your 18, your in). There's nothing better than losing your L2 money (which you hopefully didn't pay for with real money, and if you did, nobody feels sorry for you) to learn that gambling does, indeed, not pay - although of course in L2 it does, sometimes, and that's more of a problem than the availability of the gambling to promote it.
Gambling for profit doesn't stop being a bad idea at eighteen either - ever since I started playing TCGs (Spellfire and Magic for me, or Pokemon for others) I've bought the joy of opening the pack, not the potential good card in it.
Said it before, be glad to say it again: Buy the coffers, don't try to buy soulcrystals. Not only will you likely spend less money, you'll have more fun blowing it up too.

This is sad. I cant believe I read this. There is a huge difference between a game and reality. This doesnt promote gambling outside of the game. Im getting tired of people blaming games for ther bad behavior. I cant even go buy the newest copy of Grand Theft Auto without the cashier giving me all kinds of crap and inspecting my ID to make sure its not a fake because I look like I could be under 17. Please stop thinking like this. People need to take responsibility for there own actions. If this event convinced you that you needed to go out gambling you should probably cancel your account now. Because its only a matter of time before the game tells you its ok to beat the crap out of people with blunt objects.

Erm what??? First of all as Nos says it is a game. No-one forces anyone to be involved in any content within it. Claiming that it promotes gambling is just wrong. Online casinos promote gambling - HUGE difference.
Secondly with that argument you can claim every aspect of the events promote gambling. Example - the Squash event. You collect pollen and swop them for seeds (some people, myself included bought a few when they didn't have quite enough towards the end of the event to get a squash). The gamble in this instance is what is within the Squash, might be scrolls, might be potions and if you're really lucky it will be a crystal.
So maybe the point is that the new event needs money to pay for the boxes so now I move onto enchanting. Buy a weapon, buy your scrolls, take your chances, will it or won't it - it's a gamble and it's paid for!!!!. Maybe there should be a ban on under 18's OEing???
um hello people .. this event is just an adena Drain ... ncsoft is hoping to drain some of the bot currency from the game .. and like Democrats they are actually draining the pockets of the hard workin people more then the actuall people who need to be drained/taxed under a guise of doin a good thing lol

Hindemith is one of the few servers where taxing at 15% isn't the standard across all castles. In reality, NCsoft is doing something the US government (best economy in the world no argument applies, check your GDP then talk) has done for years: DESTROY CURRENCY. Printing too much currency, which in this game equates to adena drops, is one cause of inflation. NCsoft is destroying currency and introducing more soul crystals (if only a few) which are a hot commodity. This is a brilliant economic move. When an item becomes more rare, it has more value. When adena is removed, it INCREASES in value. It doesn't matter who has it, the total adena in circulation is coming down and that stabalizes things.
Smart countries don't just print currency, they replace it. Back in C1, 100 M was a LOT of spare cash to have on you. Now 1 B is nothing special. Do you think that is because mobs drop 4 times as much adena at 20 levels higher? A and S grade gear is so distant from NPC value because of the accumulation of currency in players that have been around so long. This event is in direct opposition to these economic problems. Economics 101, back to school with you.

The event is voluntary so it is not a tax, more like a lottery.
However, a lottery is a tax on people who cannot do math.
