is shield useful for dagger?

hi all, i am rolling a HE and I'm not sure if shield is better for lv 40 and below?
Think this has already been answered before.
Basically it might be but only for against archers.
Otherwise, best to rely on your evasion (which a shield will reduce).

I don't use a shield with my dagger. Often I can go through a couple of mobs without being hit once, which is the way I like it ;)
Yup true. Its best to not be hit at all. Or hit not very often. I would say no to a shield with a dagger. I have never used one with my AW.
What about for an EE with a daggar?

++Evasion Buff
or
++Advanced Block and Bless Shield

eh comrades eh?
You mean the dagger is for the EE or for the fighter?
pffft. The EE.

I saw one B grade on Lionna with a daggar, but during D grade when i tried it my accuracy was so bad i switched back to nuking windstrike.
I'm quite enjoying the dagger around the late 30ies, the misses aren't that bad - even on whites. :D The cleric misses almost as much, and she's using a blunt.

An EE however has low base DEX (humans don't evade much if they're not using evasion gear either :p ), add that to a lack of fighter light armour mastery (boosts evasion) and a lack of actual evasion passives...

No, the buff does not make you evade enough to justify dropping the shield, with which you can block at least decently well.
i am currtly lv 18, i noticed i can block better than evade.
My Assassin is lvl 35 with a +1 DEX tattoo and the evasion is really nice. With Clan Oath armour which adds to evasion again (+3) I think, then it seems to more than outweight using a shield

I don't know about other daggers, but for PW, Evasion doesn't really start working great till mid 40's.

I'm not ingame right now, but if I remember correctly, Shield subtracts 4 from Evasion.

You're saying you have +1 Dex tat, and +3 Evasion from clan armor. So that = 4.

So that would be kind of like mixing Acid with Base and ending up with a sulution that is Neutral :p
-8 from evasion actually.

ive found it best to use heavy armor till 40 even on daggers.

Your masterys dont mean much at that point adn teh extra p.def is nice.

use a shield to if you want.

No, because I said I don't use a shield.
So I end up with significantly more evasion due to:

1) No shield penalty
2) Extra evasion from +1 DEX tattoo
3) Extra evasion from Clan Oath Light Armour
4) Passives

More than makes up for a shield in my opinion
Only time I saw some dagger with shield was when she was wearing heavy armor for whatever reason. It creeped her evasion anyway, so shield "did not do that much damage anyway".

Edit: eating chestnuts and doing lots of typos.
0-40, heavy armor is better for a dagger. There are no armor bonuses on any light set that is really worth it, and you will not evade at any spectacular rate. Better to just have the hits your bound to take do less damage. After 40, you can switch to light armor, because the bonuses are better, and your passive skills apply to light. I play a TH, and around my late 50's and early 60's I used Doom Heavy for PvP with a shield. As I see it, if your fighting people around your level or higher, you are not going to evade them, so why not have the do less damage to you. The bonus on the Doom heavy was good for PvP and with the shield, you will block a good 40% of incoming attacks, and almost all bow shots. At 7x however, I use light for pvp again, simply because evasion is better now and the set bonuses. Post 40, you should use light for all PvE IMO. Prior to 40, use heavy with a shield.
#1 tip for a dagger:

Never kill your evasion/accuracy

<CAUGH!!!!>

Shield and heavy armor is GREAT on daggers.. under certain conditions: Vs. Mages, tyrants, daggers and gladiators. Their skills doesn't take evasion into account, it's better to block for more damage then ;)
Here's what I've accumulated as a dagger:

1) Only time you ever run in heavy armor is when you get to S grade (other than sub-40). The IC set's P.Def bonus is greater than the drac p.def with your passives.
2) Shield, always. Evasion has been killed in the game and now that some nukes can be blocked with a shield, it's an excellent idea to to have a shield.
How do I know that evasion has been killed? Because UE isn't even effective.
Indeed, many skills bypass evasion completely, and on top of that you have sooo many buffs that increase accuracy it's a crime.. :s
Some numbers.

Using 75 AW, DC light, prophet buffs, +4 dex, -4 con.

vs. lvl 80 prophet (56 prophet buffs)
no shield - 145
w/ shield - 150.8
no shield/EE buffs - 135.2
w/ shield/EE buffs - 131.5

vs. lvl 80 HE (56 prophet buffs)
no shield - 537.2
w/ shield - 470
no shield w/ EE buffs - 497
w/ shield w/ EE buffs - 358.8

Against archers its a no-brainer. Use a shield. Against nukers, use a shield (since you can't evade their spells). Against anyone else, it doesn't make a huge difference.

Well, all skills can't be evaded :P

What exactly are these arbitrary numbers? :P
P.Def, Evasion, what? ?_?

What the hell is this? And if there is one class vs wich you never want to drop evasion, it s archers.
It's L2Calc damage calculations. Those numbers are DPS.

Actually, I did those calculations, and against a full buffed lvl 80 HE with boss jewels, IC armor with shield was A LOT better than Draconic armor, even more so with adv block. The only downside is that UE will have no effect what so ever in that setup. It was not only during full buffs and boss jewelry IC was better than draconic, even with only PP 56 buffs for both, IC was still better against the archer.

I got the same result this guy got, but I used a level 80 AW. The DPS went down about 20-40% with a shield with adv. block, pretty sick.. so when to use light armor.. against tanks, sws and BD with swords/daggers? O_o

but...the stronger the acid and base you have, the more impressive the journey back to neutrality :P
BTW, shield subtract -8- evasion.
Advanced block and BtSh6 make or break the efficiency of shields - the difference between a buffed and unbuffed shield is honestly laughable. :p
The moto "Heavy armor for daggers works better under 40" is not valid. I used to think so too. But after some tests I did on my elven scout (35+) I say it really depends on the mob you fight. Specially with clan oath armor (+3 evasion) and fighting green mobs, I found myself evading around 50% of the hits (test mob lakin undine). No heavy armor can match this damage reduction. But as I said, not all mobs have the same accuracy, so these results can vary.
That is true.. certain mobs have low accuracy, and are very good to hunt with light armor when green. Typical mobs with low accuracy are archers and dagger mobs.

We talked about PVP last couple posts.
