If you no longer drop anything at death (when white), what is the new purpose of having a high rec count? Is this posted anywhere?

A high rec count never reduced drop chances - among the people I know I'm one with the lowest drop rate (and yes, I do die enough for a reasonable sample size...), but I've never had more than 20 or so recs.
They were always a purely social thing.

Alrighty, thanx. I always thought if you had high recs that it improved the chances of you not dropping items at death.

Id like to stay in the middle so I have that nice light blue colour :) But I always have either none, or constantly at 255 (on different chars obviously. Guess which one had max recs :p)

Recs mean anything now?
They never meant anything to start off with in the first place....

The blue name identifies you as a farmer, or as someone who begs for recs. The first toons with blue names were the farmers.
When there was lots of crafting going on, my WS got recs from my customers. My name is slowly turning white now.

It's a currency for receiving buff :)
Seriosly, it's so common "will buff for rec", or people rec me for whatever reason when I buff them from my own will.

Actually, I got all my recs by being a nice person.

So you are (also) a farmer?
It is true that the first with blue names were farmers, but that hardly holds true anymore.
