Is there any class that can actually solo? And by that I mean, no oop buffer/healer/recharger? Solo w/ only self-buffs (or clan hall buffs at the most) and still get decent xp at least till 65? o.O
I imagine summoners can, don't know how effectiently.
SK and DA can, although Im not sure how fast DA can kill without panther, and how much the kill speed with panther offsets the 15% exp loss. I am sure it is pretty worthwhile though, especially with pet ss. It will get costly but Im sure most solo is.
SK can go without cubes easily but the added debuffs and nukes are nice.
I dont think either SK/DA is by any means fast or cheap exp, but it is constant and steady.
I am interested in seeing, but these new insta potions are really good, Im wondering if they might just help classes that couldnt truely solo before, do just that.
Uh.. I see these suggestions but quite frankly, I'm not sure if they are completely true.
SH can till 65 but at some point thereafter you really need at least emp 1.
This is not to say they can't solo "solo" at all but it is slower. You mentioned "decent xp". That is subjective but quite frankly, without at least emp 1, it is going to be slow.
I played a SK on the PTS and compared to the time I played a Destroyer, I have to say I just don't understand how they do it. Killing was so low that it was unbearable. I found the lvl 62 destroyer was able to solo a lot better (well, whatever lvl they maxed us out at) than the SK.
So, if you want "classes that can "solo" then sure. I think a few. But add the "decent xp" and that really narrows it down in my opinion.
Maybe summoner (I say this only because people say they are great soloers, no first hand experience) SH to 65 sure...
45-52 was around IT-Aden two shotting mobs ( bugbears/ formor, then the medusa/ratman/ etc mobs right outside of aden ).
52-58 Forsaken Plains 2 shotting mobs.
58-62 Forsaken Plains Pits ( aka Sharp Talon Tigers + Orcs ) twp shotting each. The orc mages in the area transform into sharp talon tigers.. so I cast surrender on it just incase ( as I do not like wasting bsps ).
62+ Valley of Saints. I chose to have empower at that point... but that was for the sake of not having to rely on demon set any more.
Destroyer can solo especially with these herbs now ^^ I can go nonstop with the herbs as long as I also maintain Rage and BR efficiency with a dagger and haste2 pot. Ofcourse, I'm then hunting white 1xhp mobs.
Then again, it will be slower exp than with a party or with a buffer, but you can really solo, still decent exp. Same for my SH but thats a well known fact already that SHs can solo nicely.
I didn't mean to say that PSs can't solo - because thanks to the herbs now they certainly can - but ES/WK did it better (i.e. with merrow/kai) before them, and they can still do so in areas without herbs - which is the difference: Bit more flexibility on where you can solo on an ES/WK.
Yeah a lot of SK do a +++str build and majestic with health DLE, if they solo a lot. I have kind of a unconventioanl build. I have magic power, so I nuke for quite a lot before I even melee. But I would not disagree, it aint fast. I prefer to duo, or use my lowbie box prophet.
I played a Destroyer on PTS, I am even considering subing one. I can't really remember how long I could solo, but your right it wasnt too bad, I think I spammed a lot of pots though. But I bet with herbs its probably totaly effective.
I was thinking classes that can go non stop self buffed. But I suppose it doesnt matter if you can go non stop if someone can take mp breaks and still outlvl you.

Yeah, I seem to remember taking quite a few health potions but still thinking all the time "heck.. this isn't bad at all".
then the next PTS (last one) I made the sk. Went into Blazing Swamp and starting killing. Well, started hitting.. but I think I saw the mobs health bar "regen' just a little, that's how slow it was.
Of course I didn't have any tats so that could have made it easier.
After a while I would cringe if a green mob agroed me (as I explored the new areas). Not because I was afraid I would die but because it meant that I would just have to stop and spend all that time killing it!

Also, they either decreased the MP from Contract payment or Transfer Pain -- I didn't really do any comparison, I just know I can easily have both effects and still regenerate MP (albeit very slowly) while in C4 it would, over about 15 minutes, drain my MP dry.
I never really understood why they made the PS one drain MP but neither of the others. Is the PS one that much better while soloing that they wanted to nerf it? I suppose I have might3 for mine while the warlock and ES only have Might1. Not sure if that really makes such a difference they want to force me to solo with Shadow not Soulless.
Hmmm, well, one herb of life is like 1k hp back and those drop pretty often so no need for pots. Around that 65 lvl that the op was speaking of, ofcourse it depends on your total maximum hp limit.
I've soloed all the way to 74 almost all of it without a buffer and it's fast enough that i can write on a calendar lvl X in Y days and get there easily. Since you an EE you could probably do slightly better (for a well setup PS the summoner should do 20-25% of the damage). Your buffs aren't attack based but they'll still help quite a bit, just not as much as a VR buffer would.
Actually, I could say, in my own opinion of what a good summoner looks like: For a well set up AoE ES, the servitor will be doing upwards of 99% of the damage.
I never really understood why they made the PS one drain MP but neither of the others.
Nobody does.
Physics: The summon or the summoner should do 25% damage? o_O
Self buffed, ie soloing, my patk is 1/4 that of my pet's patk. Now i hit faster than my pet, 401 atk spd soloing to be exact. this means that my normalized patk is actually .271 of my pet's rather than .25 in addition my natural crit rate is 84, roughly twice my pets and nominally indicating i shoudl crit 8% of the time as opposed to his 4%. I don't want to go into those numbers but needless to say it's an important feature.
Using just this data and assuming that we hit the exact same number of times, which is not quite correct but very close, we get that i am dealing 21.3% of the damage which is well within my range of 20-25%.
Now in a previous thread you made a generalization that the herbs would increase damage output by 20%. Now if we add that into our equation we get a modified damage output of 24.5% by me as opposed to the pet. This is still ignoring the crit damage which would definately lean in my favor but honestly won't make a big change because of the relatively small crit rates. The effect would also be lessened by the fact tha the pet is at least 1 level higher than me, meaning he DOES crit a more per crit stat than i do by virtue of level checks.
Now this is of course solo, the pet shines with an outside buffe, particularly with stacked crit buffs. However it does demonstrate that a summoner who wants to do damage CAN do damage and not a negligible amount either.
thread you made a generalization that the herbs would increase damage output by 20%.
Wha? I don't think I did. In either case, you can't compare a modification to 25% of your total damage output to one to ... 100%. As every non-summoning character gets.
Level is very crucial to criting, ask any dagger, there's a huge difference in crit rates between even white and green mobs, pets are 1-2 levels higher and as such see a higher rate than one would otherwise suggest. Nominally your crit rate is your crit/10 however level has a big influence on this number and i beleive the base crit is for even level mobs from the front.
While i agree that i'm not recieving the same total benefit as another character the point still stands that i can solo in places where my 3rd class change roommates have trouble duoing. Summoners, PS at least don't NEED that much of a boost. Other classes have to solo too, none of them do it near as well as a summoner even with the herbs (sometimes nto even wiht an OOP buffer). Nukers excluded of course.
Oh, nobody's doubting the impressive solo capability - that's what summoners are all about, 1v1 and soloing. :p Gotta be good at something.
Mind though that other classes don't actually have to solo.
As for the "ask any" thing - I'll believe things like that when I have a test with a decent sample size or better yet an official statement. I'm not saying it's not true, but 'commonly accepted truth' is hardly a convincing argument.
I've not noticed a significant change between the crit rate on mobs nearly 20 levels higher than me or green - nor on those level 1x aggros you get running around elf land. :p
I'm just saying that you know perfectly well that "ask anyone" is dumb arguementation. Of course if you think it'll crit moe you're going to notice the crits on low level mobs and the misses on high levels. ;)
Thanks everyone. I suppose I'll clarify now, I didn't want to be so specific at first that I got no replies. I currently have 2 accounts with various characters on each that I dual box in different combinations. My two "mains" are EE and SpS. However, I either have to cancel one account or quit altogether due to financial strains.
So that has me considering what to do with my subclass on the EE. As much as I don't want to be FOTM I was thinking that a necro might be able to solo well, but since no one mentioned necro I guess not. I'll look into the ES and Warlock. The summoner playstyle never really attracted me but I'll give it another look. :)
- No elemental nuke. Dark nukes always have an additional cost, whether it requires a corpse ( burst, their aoe ), cursed bone ( death spike ), or nearly double the mana cost ( vampiric claw ), or low hp ( death link ). Lets not forget that more mobs resist dark than any other element.
- No Clear Mind. This was a staple for my SH. Body to mind + clear mind meant up times of or over an hour with self buffs.
- Slight decrease in m atk. I don't know how this impacts their soloability... as I never leveled a necro without empower. This might be something you'd want to figure out yourself... though if you can afford cursed bones, a good weapon, and demon set... I doubt this would ever become an issue.
Personally I think a WS solo'es just fine. Not to mention the abilty to craft all of my own gear and shots along the way. Spendy though as you need the golem out all the time to xp with any speed solo.
WC is a pretty good soloer, very little downtime since they have good mp regen and they heal back up with their high damage high drain % life steal, which also brings mobs down lower in health so its less to kill off
they also do more melee damage than the other mystics, and they get the same buffs (although later in the levels)
i soloed my wc 1-52, i started during the medal event though so that funded my top d and later top c
yeah necro is still pretty much a solo king
once you hit the mid 50's you can just spam death spike and still break even
high lvls of btm and drains make you almost as good as a sh (no overhit and only dark nukes) but the fast cast speed allows for better btm and faster kills (necro will 2 hit the same mobs as sh 90% of the time)
if you can hunt in the new herb areas you can easily go for 40 minuets without a single recharge or btm
my record so far is 2 hours zero downtime 2 hitting non-stop without a single btm, recharge or drain
artisan/warsmith: good solablility into C grade, as long as you are willing to raise a wolf or use your golem, ESPECIALLY now that we have herbs. kills things awfully slow and lacks skills, but is very durable. down time low to moderate, as long as you stick to green mobs
warcryer: solos extremely well, though still a mite slow. c grade goes by extremely fast with a high OE melee weapon (recommend focused two handed blunt or sword), plus demon set for your DoT and drains. little or no down time with herbs available, maybe 1 or 2 minutes every second or third buff cycle. dreaming spirit unaffected by the general sleep nerf, so decent crowd control for agro intense areas.
warlock (pretty much all summoner classes, WK,ES, PS): solo master, period, though the herbs are cutting into our dominance. will outlevel any other solo character out there (ie no oop buffer), capable of 15% - 20% an hour even into the middle 50's with no outside buffs, 20% or higher with outside buffs. one of the few classes that can solo consistantly in necros and catas with no outside buffs. can solo naked at level 52 (I did this to kill time while I was waiting for mammon to turn my SoD into Tsu for my B duals), something no other class can say (made only 5% an hour, true, but xp is xp (can replay this if anyone is curious, is hilarious)). no downtime unlesss you are trying to solo yellow/pink mobs of 2x or higher HP (and why the heck would you try that in the first place?).
of course, we can't pvp worth much, and partying doesn't really help us as much as it helps others, but hey... we solo really well :)
Well, I'm not a very high lvl player, but I've soloed all my way through. A few partys now and then but not more than a whole 300% exp in all my lvls.
With beast shots, me and my panther can do quite well, killing fast with almost no down time on 3x or 4x HP mobs (just 2 mins sitting to start full when kitty dies).
I don't use my kitty while kiling white 1x HP mobs due to lower exp gained, but since you are still a tank you almost don't recieve much damage, plus I get absolutelly no downtime at all. (Not even before the herbs)
So as a DA if you plan to solo most of the time like me here are some tips:
1. Don't add +CON...in fact don't use dyes at all. They are not needed.
2. Use panther when hunting in high HP mobs (i.e. better exp). Enchanted Valley es great. Avoid AOE areas and magic attacking mobs, panthers don't resist much damage.
3. Don't use panther while hunting white or green 1x HP mobs. You can kill fast enough on your own...it may not be fast but you don't get downtime at all, so you can lvl to eternity if you want too.
4. The panther is worth the 15% exp drain since with it you'll kill a lot more faster, so don't be afraid to use it all the time if necessary.
Just remember you are still a tank so don't expect to kill fast even with the panther summoned, though it really helps.
English is not my first language. (Just to avoid unnecessary flames)
My char has always been easily capable of solo. I could solo from lvl 36-lvl61 in EV, and now can solo outside Cemetary. Dont know what all the fuss is about :P
According to NCSoft nomenklature any clas can solo.
That mean all mobs in a spot will attack alone player.
All trops, family agro, social mobs will attack solo player.
If ever u find a mob at your level wich is not agro, not social, not grouped with other mobs, wich educately wait to be killed without fighting back then:
1. its probably bug and u will going to exploit it.
2. it has 20 or more hunters on him already.
Appart that if u r not melee or archer that mean u cant survive more then one mob at time -u will hardly find mobs for soloing after lvl 60 exept in rare spots where u have to PK concorence to be able to hunt those few mobs.
yeah, those herbs are throwing things out of whack. they've made soloing for a lot of classes a lot easier/possible. leveling a dwarf now vs before the herbs is a good example. with the proper build, a dwarf can just tear through mobs now, with little or no downtime, which was previously impossible with out at least an oop buffer/healer.
For all those recommending tanks, uh, thanks but no thanks! One of my best friends in game is a DA and I've heard enough of his troubles to know I don't want to get into that! I know that all classes 'can' solo, heck, even my EE 'can' solo (it just sucks is all). I'm looking for the classes that can solo better than most. :)
I think tanks are made only for the better few then
At lvl 54 I can go around 5-6% exp per 30 mins of game play (one kitty summon)...soloing with self buffs. Around 8-9% full buffed. That's pretty nice for a tank IMO.
eh, the best solo class, then, is a summoner. necro comes close, as does a SH, but summoners are still king. they don't need an oop buffer/recharger, they don't need top gear, they don't need shots (though it helps, a lot) and they can level solo all the way to 80.
mind you, summoners are not an easy class to play. they start out fairly weak, and the playstyle is different from any others. but I find it fairly rewarding. I can grind almost anywhere solo, or I can easily find a party if i want one. (it'll get easier once I hit 56 and get Queen). we are fairly weak in mass pvp, and C5 was not kind to us in general, but if you want the best class solo, go summoner.
I'll never understand why people join an MMORPG just to go play solo. I play a Destroyer, and while I can solo quite well, I'd rather be in a party. So if you see me running around on Hinde OOP, invite me to go kill stuff.
That's because during my playtime hours most of the world is as sleep. (...playing from Australia)
And since I don't have much time to play, all of my friends and clanies are waaay to high to lvl with me. I do sometimes lvl with them just for the fun of having some nice conversation...but I hardly do any exp that way.
