What are there benifits, downfalls, and overall ubernessess?
that fact that we can kill almost any class in the game doesnt speak for itself?
none, none and none.

great at tanking, nice DD, high HP, awesome defence, para skill, root, etc.
from your sig nurama2themax, you appear to be a bit up in the air for choosing between BD and SK.

BD is much easier to get grps with, and therefor level quickly in comparison to an SK(usually). An SK however is much more technical when it comes to using all your skills, picking up on the nuances that make the class truely unique. If you wanna level fast and be an ok-ish DD, BD is fine(dancing every two minutes gets annoying tho). If you wanna be unique and turn some heads, go SK. The SK is truely one of the most versitile classes for setups and styles. Plus, we're pretty ****.
Oh no no i have played a bd before but now im switchen servers and gonna go sk just maken sure there own...

none, none and none.

I suppose so. Granted, being given a SK is not like leveling one up from "1" but on the PTS I found they killed so SO slowly. Drove me nuts. Then again, I didn't have any tats. I was dreading running into any aggro mob. Not because I feared death but because I knew it would take me forever to kill it.

Well, I did play a destroyer on the C4 PTS and that seemed about right. So when I tried a SK I wasn't prepared for the slow killing.

I will have to say that they have a lot of skills. If you like skills then they are a good choice.
When you have 400 Patk you don't kill fast....destroyers are not tanks. They are more like meat tanks...and with destroyer's skills they can get 1700P atk...

So no Sov...you still need more tank practice. Choose a true tank on the C6 PTS

Yes sir. :(

I'll try harder on C6 PTS :o

Yea, lowbie Destros will be stuck with that number, but after getting the first lvl of Frenzy it will already top alot more than that.

And when fighting a single mob at a time, Destroyer is as good a tank as any tank class. High dps keeps the aggro, high con and hp makes it easy to survive mobs that stun or hit extremely hard and high pattk makes it easy to passively heal the Destro with vr.

Someone said that SK has high HP, that I find funny :) The guy must have no idea of what high HP is ;)

none, none and none.

It's the worst tank in the game.
+1 Sk is the worst tank in the game.

But it has the highest DPS of any tank ( not counting DA with panther out ) so its good for partys cause it will get a lot back with VR.
Worst tank maybe.. but the most fun to play with compared to other tanks.

I'd never trade my SK to any other tanks!

And i love the surprise effect in pvp.. when everyone thinks - tank crap in pvp.. and then you actually win it... <3
Pretty good against archers ;)

I transitioned from an SH to an SK, and I'm still trying to understand why everyone says they kill slowly. I didn't see that at all. Sure, they kill much slower than an SH (or any other mage for that matter that can 2-shot-drop everything in sight), but kit them well, and the SK shines.

I also liked that they are a much more flexible than we give them credit. At C grade I put my SK in PL set (with the additional +4 Str, in addition to the tats) and feasted on the gators in AI. At B grade, Blue Wolf Heavy with overenchanted haste duals and leveled faster than anyone then in my clan...including archers and mages (a necro and an SpS).

With Strength maximized, judicious use of your skills, esp., hex, drain, and your cubics, it shouldn't take you long to drop mobs at all... especially multi aggros if you use corpse plague and a focus or haste weapon. Add buffs to the equation and the kill speed really increases.

interesting that you say that. currently i'm using my +4 SLS Focus as I cant afford a +Dama Focus. My brother however, is willing to lend me his +6 SLS Haste duals, and i was wondering if using duals with a SK would be effective in leveling. i guess i got my answer =)

thx.

Not so fast.

In solo PVE, with a sufficiently overenchanted weapon, you can pretty much use anything at D, C and B grades...from daggers to swords to blunts to duals. But...there will be an offset (cost) associated with this choice. For example you might find yourself using more soulshots with the +6 haste duals than with a Focus SLS. And unless you have VR regularly, you'll probably need to pop more heal pots (or burn more mana on Life Leach and drains) than you normally would if equipped with a sword and shield.

Do some tests and see what works best for you. If you find that the dual SLS are more advantageous, given your options, I say go for it. The bottom line is to get to the end game as quickly as possible...because that's where the real fun is. Once you get to A grade and S grade, then you can conform to the standard that works for other high level SK's -- namely sword and shield.
true. agree with SinPalabras. I've been using my sword and shield, considering i'm a tank and get masteries for both of them. but just to lvl quicker, maybe duals (i did get myself a +3 str, -3 con to go with my doom, once i get to A, i'll remove the tatoo). but i see what you are saying, hopefully i'll be able to get to A sooner than later.
thx for the advice.
SKs are awesome in PvP...last night was the first time that i beat an SK 1v1 (in or out of arena) and he is lvl 68 and i'm 74. it was a **** good fight, and those cubies you get...my god...and lighting strike ><...
my friend plays one and he loves it.
awesome at PvP but not the greatest tank out there
SK is the funniest class to play in PVP imo.

you expected to 6hit a mob?

you play nuker too much, youre used to killing quickly.

don't count the TK out just yet ... PVE me and a BD can knock out 3 rooms of cata alone and in PVP TK are no push over ... and believe me if you do kill me , you will be hurting and have 10 MP caus I'll take all you got ;)

Jode 69 TK clibing to 70 =)
and btw TK get that lil "boost/re vamp/ tune up/ umm skill?" in the next update MUahahahahahahahah

That's like saying your orange is worse than my apple.

While all tanks are grouped together, they are far from similar in anything but basic skills.

LucyfurZaana: Don't get rid of the +3 STR/-3CON tat unless you are going for +3 DEX/-3CON. I had my SK in Doom and +3 S/-3 C tats to start off with at 52, but eventually switched to Ava Heavy instead of the Doom and kept the tattoos. And while I have never used anything but sword/blunt and shield outside of a pole party, my kill speed and damage are very good.; Now that I am in Tallum, I love the +3S tat even more, although I probably have a low HP compared to other tanks. I am actually thinking of switching to +3Dex/-3Con and +2 Str/-2Con in the future. +++ Dex increases Crit rate and Attack Speed, among other things.

And also, while I tend to get ganked in group PvP, in 1v1 situatioins, I have not lost a battle yet to anyone within 5 level so of me, including an archer and two nukers. And I am about 60% win ratio against toons more than 5 levels higher than me, including a BD that was 8 levels higher than me, including a grade difference in gear. SK gets a ton of great skills for PvP, and the new skills added in C5 and the change in the way hate works has only benefitted tanks in general, and SK's in particular. If you practice your PvP, and learn to time everything and get it mastered, very few classes can stand up to a well-played SK. I am far from one of the best SK's on the server. I have seen an A grade SK drop 8 A grade nukers in a row before dying.

And to Jode: Not counting TK out for PvE/PvP, but TK is designed as a PvE class, whereas SK is designed as a PvP class. Case in point: Cubics TK gets Storm and Life Cubics. Storm Cubic does decent damage in PvP, but Life cubic doesn't help much until you run out of CP. SK gets Phantom, Vamp and Poison Cubics. Phantom adds multiple debuffs, Poison adds DoT and rarely fails in PvP against similar levels, and Vamp cubic, well let's just say that doing damage AND healing yourself is a great thing, and while it doesn't heal until after your cp is gone, it still hits for damage before then. And when is NC gonna give TK their third cubic? Dang already...
Very interesting and helpful, Blue6. Ty for the info, the pvp stats that you've mentioned are certainly impressive. I think i'll more than likely stay with the str tatoo for now and see how things go later on.

Is it true that an SK can have more than one cubic up and running or is it one at a time?

I see that you are on Hinde. I'll try to contact u in-game if i've any questions.

I find that very hard to believe and yet I trust your word.

My head hurts

Yes, an SK can have all 3 of their cubics out at the same time. If you mean can you have 2-3 of the same cubic, then no. That'd be a nice Shillien Templar skill though.

As far as killspeed for the SK grind, people aren't giving them enough credit. At 60 in blue wolf heavy, +3 str -3 con tattoo, with an unenchanted damascus(focus) I can clear a room in Catacomb of the Witch with nothing but SE buffs. Not only do I clear it, I can do so fast enough to have time to stand around waiting for mobs to respawn. While this will become more challenging when I approach the physical resist mobs, the SK still has access to hex, poltergeist cubic, viper cubic(DoT), sting(DoT),and decently powered nukes to open combat with.

We're certainly not spellhowlers or necros, but we're not that bad off either.
nice. see we should've started this thread a long time ago, just in a few days i've gathered so much useful info that i didn't know before, even though i'm a 52 SK. man! still a noob, still a noob .....

I apologize for diverting from the OP, but...

Destroyers can get way, way more patk than that [1700], unless you mean Patk without using the Destroyers special skills. Following a suggested change by Tokara I got a cursed dagger with rsk: focus SA. With this the cool down for Guts and Frenzy is only 2 minutes with haste2 and zerk1 (i.e. it is up 90 seconds then down 2 minutes). Rage cooldown is less than 30 seconds (up 90 seconds, down <30 seconds). What this means is I can always have either Guts or Frenzy up in combo with Rage. At level 55 with GS+3 with Focus, BW Heavy, no tattoos, Rage2 and Frenzy3 my Patk > 3000. It takes about 4 to 6 shots to kill a white 4X HP mob. WOOT! I love playing Destroyer!

NOTE: the times are estimates using the ultra-low-tech method of counting and it was late and I was tired. I'll try to do an official timing to corroborate.

Not at all. It still speaks to my experience with the SK and the Destroyer.

Granted, SH's kill very quickly. I know that and would never even compare SH with any melee for the most part.

But after I tried the Destroyer, whose killing speek seem very "right" to me for a melee (or for what I was hoping to get from a melee) the SK really set me back.

But again, no tats, just a focus weapon. Still, I'm sure I was doing someting wrong. There were just so many skills (and you know us SH's, more than 5 and we are just lost :p ) and it was really hard for me to get a handle on how to play the character.

At one point on the PTS a group of guys passed by me and the SH I was with. We were both new to our classes so really had no idea.

One member of the group started hitting me and said "flag"!

I just kept thinking (I would love to flag you pice of sh*t but I have no idea how to play this character there are just so many skills).

We died. But it really spoke to the complexity of the SK. I have nothing but respect for players who can successfully play a SK.
SKs are just totally Awesome!

That is all I had to say...thank you...carry on...

:p

well, as long as they are totally awesome, then ok. :D
I should probably mention that I consistently use a focus weapon. I will more than likely be changing from +3 STR/-3 CON to +3 DEX/-3 CON and +2 STR/-2 CON in the near future.

Also, right now my gear set up is:

Tallum Heavy
Infernal Master with Focus
Carnage Bow (no SA)
Great Axe with Crit Stun
Majestic Jewels

For PvP I use:
Kesh with Focus and a shield, usually Doom, but sometimes Ava Shield, although I might switch to a +6 Homunk w/ Acu for PvP purposes

None of it is plussed up, and on white 4x HP mobs with 74 SE buffs I can clear a room in a catacomb without using a GSAP, Alac Pot, or Heal Pots. And I don't even have to have a cubic up. My Patk with Infernal master is well over 800 with Might 3. Only bad thing is I don't get to use a shield, but oh the kill speed...
