When someone is banned they usually don't tell them at all. No e-mail, no "you have been banned" when you try to log in, nothing. Their lovely lack of communication caused me to (pay for and) not get to play for a month back in prelude. They banned me because of a duplicate registration key issue but they neglected to tell me that I was banned. Consequently I spent a week or two trying to fix everything on my end, even calling my ISP several times. Finally I e-mailed them telling them I couldn't play and they responded with "oh yeah, we banned you. Have a nice day!" After a few weeks of trouble (faxing and mailing my box and receipt) they reinstated me, but never did give me a refund on the month I paid for but couldn't play. Yeah I'm still ticked about it.
But I would assume if you e-mail them they *might* tell you why they banned you. But unless it's something provable like my case, they probably won't un-ban you.
That sucks!
I friend got banned and I'm trying to "do" something...
Everey time I needed support I got my solution, but I can't accept that kinda stuff. At least we, as clients, should get some explanation.
Huh. In C1 I think it was, my second account was locked for the same duplicate key issue, and they actually did email me and explained why the account was disabled. Though that was after they had gotten a lot of pretty angry people on the forums complaining about the procedure, so I think I was one of the first to have the "new and improved" version.
But I would assume if you e-mail them they *might* tell you why they banned you. But unless it's something provable like my case, they probably won't un-ban you.
At best you'll probably get something generic, so its hard to get yourself unbanned since you probably won't know what you were banned for in the first place. I'm sure this will get locked/deleted anyway. Oh well, they know we're unhappy with the system, they've given non-sense reasons for why they do it this way, so the community and they disagree and it probably won't change. Customer service is something that happens in other industries.
E-mails are sent to all accounts that are closed. If the e-mail on an account is incorrect or not up to date the customer may not recieve their mail. If a customer writes to support about a closed account they will be told again why an account was closed (after account verification.)

Let this be a lesson, kiddies. When you buy an account, err I mean are given an account by your cousin, change the email address.

You should go fire some lazy GM's then spam.
I know a bunch of ppl from my alliance that got banned (including my roommate...), and for @ least a year none of them has gotten en email saying the account was closed and why. only if it was a 3day ban for language.
they had to find out by logging into the playNC account and finding that their activate/de-activate button was missing.
(and dont suggest they all had fake email accounts...)
No I am not suggesting that your friends had "fake" e-mail addresses.
I am saying that we sent an e-mail to the address on their PlayNC account. It is that simple.

At least, a real reason, a report, or something like that should be given.

he shouldn't use walker then.
Tell your friend that NCsoft can detect invalid packet that walker send to the server now, so stop botting.

LOL third party programs are completely illegal and very ban-able
I was actually feeling a slight bit sorry for your friend there... until i saw this, Good Riddance!! Less 3party program users = happier legit costumers :)
Why? So that the cheaters can get better at what they do?
You do realize that you can be banned for any and everything? Or nothing?
I agree that you should recieve a more detailed explanation as to why you got banned. Not super detailed, but you should at least know why. 3rd party programme can mean lots of things. I wouldn't know where to begin defending myself if I got banned and got that explanation.

Oh, I don't know. I mean "3rd party programs" shold be enough.
Why is it needed to be specific? If you were using 3rd party programs, you were using them. If not then not.
I've heard of many people who have been banned (from their 1st hand account of the matter) and they have admitted to using them.
The excuse of "my friend was banned and I've known him forever" doesn't really fly because how much can you really know someone in an online game.
Even if you know them in real life, can you really attest to everything they do?
How many little private things do we do in our own lives that we keep "private" away from our friends and family? :)

3rd party program means cheat. You don't need to know more.
Common guys.... you all know that if you use ANY kind of "third party software" that includes walker, any **** to tweek the game, anything you could possibly immagine that ISNT included in the official game dowload... it can be banable.
Some of these can or cannot be detected... but it doesnt meen they are "legit" just because you didnt get banned in the past.
If you got banned for using 3rd party software its because you WERE using them. I dont care how many times people say they are innocent.
People who cheat should not know what they got caught for. That just means they will stop using that particular software and continue using the other ones they were using content in the knowledge that NCSoft didnt detect the other ones.
If he wasn't using them, or there was a mix up, all he has to do is use the email system and he will get the account back.
All decisions made by the gmteam on 3rd party software use are permanent. I've never heard of someone getting unbanned with one of these issues. That and with the recent bannings I've seen plenty of "omg I'm banned I want my acc back" posts and they've all been answered with the above line.
Not sure how much of a pain you have to be before they reconsider your story/logs but I'm sure the policy is very unforgiving compared to the old style bannings.

Read Blah. Those cheaters brag all the time about getting banned accounts back.
IF someone innocent should get banned - and don't say it doesn't happen. Contrary to popular belief, the GMs aren't machines, they are people, they do make mistakes - it would be good to know what issue exactly they should address, when talking to support. I've read some of those e-mails people have recieved after being banned, and they are so incredibly vague. A little less vagueness would be good. 3rd party progs could be something like the sniffer to outright botting. Theres a huge difference. It would not give the accused an upper hand knowing what they are accused of. If they are guilty, chances are they know anyway, as opposed to an innocent, who just wouldn't know what to say.

I've never said otherwise. I do believe it to be extremely rare, however.

I don't know. Saying you were cheating should be enough.

Both are in violation of the EULA (which you agree to whenever you sign on). Both are bannable.

Yes it would. Read how most of the cheaters say they get their accounts back. A little information goes a long way.

I'm not saying either is okay. I'm talking about those who are wrongly accused. All I want is for people to be informed of what NC think they have done wrong so they can defend themselves. I obviously have no pity for those who did indeed do what they are accused of, no matter what the e-mail said. I just feel for those who are wrongly accused.
hmm i alwas wondered gameguard protect the L2 game from cheaters but if lets say run a weird Virus scanner, antispy software, running L2 on a uncommon OS system like X64
or have a tweeker on for my Video card how do it effects the gameguard
If 3rd party programs are illegal, everyone that uses teamspeak, fraps and other "tools" that DON'T INTERFER in gameplay should get banned.
Ok... I just got something that made me realise that this is an endless discution, and there is no room to argue.
Let me keep quiet again or I'll be the next...
Just keep it in mind: be cool, be wise, and don't get banned!
What i want to know is all the times i hear that a legit player is banned and they are innocent, but when they try to work through support. That the case is closed and there is no recourse.
How can a person work through support, if support isn't responding back to the person anymore?
I dont think it needs to be more detailed. I would agree if the ban was not for 3rd party applications that it should be detailed. People who get the 3rd party application use ban probably just think 'why, how did you know, how can I get my account back, how can I disprove what they found even though I of course know I am guilty?" People who want to cheat need to accept the consequences of the cheating and a novel describing their offenses is not only a waste of GM time but 100% pointless.
My friend recieved only an email saying that he was banned for using 3rd party programs. Only that! Thats no reason to ban an account...
At least, a real reason, a report, or something like that should be given.
There is this amazing thing you have to agree to when you play L2. It's called a EULA (end user license agreement) and it clearly states that third party program use will get you banned. It's that bunch of text you hit the "agree" button on in order to start the game.
Remember kids, breaking the EULA gets your account banned. No explanation has to be given.
What I find odd is a botter is mistakenly allowed their ban reversed, yet the innocent person that was mistakenly banned is obviously guilty. These are the same people that are distributing the bans and reversing them, if they make a mistake by reversing the wrong ban, what prevents them from mistakenly banning the wrong person in the first place.
I dont see why giving the date/time would be giving the botters the upper hand. If they were caught botting they would already know the date/time that they were botting... And its not like the botters dont already have the upper hand with them being heros, in top clans, etc.
If he wasn't using them, or there was a mix up, all he has to do is use the email system and he will get the account back.

player from gustin called fighterhugo got his account back after use illegal programs for xp his char and his friends, he live in europe and he flyied to USA austin texas talked to gms and got his account back, after it alot of people on gustin flyied to texas and got account backk after get alot of lvs cheating.
i got banned for hero chat an url that i dint check, the mensage that i got in my email was that i got banned coz i break the EULA, no proves or any explain, i got account back coz HGspan is awesome gm <3

You know what's illegal. Use your head.
i think he's right. teamspeak and ventrillo are third-party software which many people combine with the game to have a more imvolved gaming experience. the EULA is fairly vague in what is allowed and what is not.
"You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any software programs, utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived from or created for Lineage II, except that you may use the Software to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement."
TS/vent are programs designed for MMOs and L2 is one. i assume these "chat programs" are allowed to be used because they are expressly permitted by the EULA. if we were to take a vote on if the use of TS/vent should be allowed, im pretty sure everyone would be for it unanimously. but not so with sniffer programs that collect data for online databases. so my question is, is the the use of a sniffer tool a bannable offense? (or it a temp ban offense?) i know some people use this and they would never consider themselves to be using "illegal third party software" since the program does not influence or automate the game in any way, it seems harmless to them. then again, im sure the people that use zoom **** think they are "correcting their client to accomodate their needs".
I find it funny that ppl dont realise what programs gms ban for, yes we all know about Walker, and Superman. But there are other programs that dont interfear with Lineage software, and dont modify any of the lineage code. One example is the G15 Keyboard, this has inbuilt macros, so its very easy to set up auto buffing, auto follow. Alas You will get banned for using this.... Yet ingame macros are allowed...
Example : "F1" ingame buffs
<1200 sec>
Repeat
This is macroing your buffs, and will get you banned.
Please note, the above macro is an example, and will not work.

That will only get you banned if it continues to run after getting message from a GM. This is also true of putting a rock on your F1 key. If it continues after a GM PMs you, ban city (rightly so).
so my question is, is the the use of a sniffer tool a bannable offense?
Yes.
my point is, if it were expressly mentioned that it was not allowed in the EULA, less people would do it. and better yet, less people would be shouting "i dont use third party software" when they know they are running a sniffer program, but dont consider it a third-party illegal program. and i still fail to see the distiction between chat software designed for MMOs in general and a general use packet sniffer program. they are both third-party software, no matter how you look at it. NCsoft needs to be more clear with what they consider a bannable offense.
Sorry, I had to pull a post and it had many replies, and replies to replies.
Out of curiosity, why don't the moderators here just edit the post to delete all the content? It preserves the rest of the thread; it's what I do on my clan's UBB forums.
I know we had a long and informative thread about spoils at beast farm and everything got nuked because one of the initial posts got pulled and took the whole thread with it.
Yeah I know a friend of mine was ****** that some of his posts disappeared to the same thing, he couldn't figure out what was wrong until I pointed out the post he replied to was removed and it took his with it.
Now obviously a post that's a complete reply to someone else's post might be removed because it's no longer relevant but especially with the "quick reply" box, the post isn't always a reply just to the post it's listed under. People often use quick reply to reply to the thread as a whole, and not specifically the last post.
Teamspeak and Ventrilo, I believe, were originally designed for business voice conferencing. Now of course they see the most use in MMO's but that isn't the only thing they are designed for. Other third party programs, and we know which one's I mean here, are designed specifically for Lineage II. Here is a question though, what about fraps? It is designed for games and a third party program of course. but it doesn't alter the way you play the game at all. It doesn't give anyone an advantage over others. So maybe the EULA should differentiate between third party programs that are designed to give you an advantage and those that don't.
i personaly think they need to make a list of whats illigal 3e party software and 3e party software thats not against EULA
for example
1 TS,Vent,programable keyboard,video card tweekers,anti virus software,antispy software
sinds they kind of not clear on whats is and whats not illigal by 3e party software it will be umm save a lot of anger people if they are banned while they dont even know if or if not whas illigal to use

About pulling posts:
Generally, it is tough to determine which posts are connected to each other until the post is pulled. In past cases the linked posts contained quotes or flames which made editing time consuming.
I honestly have not pulled a post since the quick reply was added and did not know that so many connected posts would be pulled.
About 3rd party software:
We use the term 3rd party software because the word "bot" is so... well ugly. There are other legal reasons we use the term but we will not get into that.
We ban for bots. It is that simple. Dont muddle the discussion with Ventrilo/Teamspeak, AV programs, or even Keyboard Macros. The makers of Ventrilo did not have to decrypt Lineage II to make their product work. AV programs may scan game packets for particular algorithms but I don't think Norton wants to take a castle or get better at the manor system. As for fancy keyboards and mice with macro software... you will have a GM knock on your screen before you are banned for that. Honestly, if your keyboard macro runs 9 accounts at the same time you need to go out and get a programming job 'cuz you got skillz.
Rule of thumb for bad software: If you or the maker of the software need to decrypt, alter, fake, enhance, or remove any part of the games software or communication it is bad.
This mean, you can use all of the Vent, TS, AV suites, Xfire, fraps, you can handle.

...very nice response. ty for the rule of thumb! i just wish it were stated in the EULA that clearly.

Perhaps if you took the time to read the FAQ of the sniffer program, you'd find this gem, from the programmer himself:
The sniffer is NOT legal regarding the EULA and the TOS of NCSOFT .
Finally! Someone just comes right out and speaks in straight forward, no-holds-barred plain language, without worrying about being politically correct.
Spam you are the Man!
So if you don't want to become a resipient of the Spam-Ban, just follow that rule of thumb!
heres another rule of thumb, if you don't use any 3rd party programs when your playing the game you won't get banned, its that simple. do people really need to use 3rd party progams to enjoy playing the game anyway? if you say yes, then why are you playing the game in the first place?

Here's the thing, some people are just so used to using it, they can't live without it. For example, some moron posted a screen shot here of a player gathering (no combat, no grinding, just meeting up in town) and he had a cheat program running (you could see his target's HPs and MPs). I guess he just used it no matter what.
Or paying for the game and the 3rd party program. I have seen several players on my server that are in a clan one day, bot train another, and then back in their clan.
Whenever you agree to a contract you should read the fine print, however NCsoft didnt try to hide the EULA in the fine print. Bahhh cheaters.
Best line of the day. You get a Bozo Button on the calendar for that.
Mistryl, could you run into the central area and post it there for all to see please.
With love so he is the center of his own relationship too.

I got one question, theoretical of course but noone knows what would happen:
Let's say sniffing software can be run on computer with game itself, but also there is version that can be put on linux/*bsd router. Now I am in some dorm, campus, or somewhere with few people and we share internet connection. One linux box takes care of connectivity - pretty common solution. And my roommate who administers the box decides to install such sniffer not on his computer, but directly on linux router, as all data flow through that linux box. But me and my computer is clean, I do not know about that software installation on router. And let's say all of a sudden I cannot login and bam - I receive mail I am banned for use of third party tool. Now what? Most probably I am just out of luck because there was use of third party tool - though not on my computer and without my knowledge. Or how would somebody explain this?
(discussion about possibility to detect packet sniffer on another computer left aside).

I doubt there is any way for ncsoft to detect such usage, so that situation would never happen.
Thank you for your coment on the G15, your 9 man is not possible, But works great for my PP.....

GM Silver: Hello are you there.......
GM Silver: you have 30 seconds to comply
G15 Marco........ ** crap
G15 IM HEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEE
because all the cool people are doing it :p
i don't really understand why people do it either, it just ruins the game, sure you may have a lvl 78 with full S grade but you suck at playing it cause you've never really played, and you miss all the fun of partying with clan members and other friends that you meet along the way.

No man...u got it all wrong....
it is fun...u get to find a clan with ppl 78+ who "play" the same way...
u "party" all the time with them, and all the clan is happy for its wealth and power...
On seiges,80% of the ones helping u,are ur "automated friends",and due to the numbers and the "hard worked" lvls,u can outnumber/outlvl all the rivals...so u get the best castles,or buy all the cool clanhalls with the adena "you" spent hours gathering...
so u actually ruin the server for everybody else, and u have ur ego fly high, cos ur "the king"-"numero uno"-the unbeatable"-"(write down anything that suits that ego best)"....
lol
oh...I forgot the best part...
when it comes to PvP...u suck so much (for the reason Bajiad mentioned) that u have to call the other 6x-7x friends so u can all "punish" that 1 or 2 players who dare to disrespect u...
(does it matter ur 10-2 or 100-2???? of course not!!!!cos U R THE KING)

They should learn to use skills in PvE as well. Someone kept trying to ks me to try and start pvp but kept failing the ks. So finally I go near a few group mobs and pretend to start a skill and cancel. Ooops, the someone uses aoe hate of some sort that cause four group mobs to chase. Haven't seen the person since then.
My friend recieved only an email saying that he was banned for using 3rd party programs. Only that! Thats no reason to ban an account...
At least, a real reason, a report, or something like that should be given.
You are joking, right?
In my clan they get one warning. Get caught botting again and you get reported, PKed, and booted.

I know people which NCSoft send a mail of ban for use of 3rd party program without a warning of anykind.
The funniest is that, NCSoft don't care to give any explanation about this event and don't want to let the person defend himself. Better they don't even answer the ticket anymore.
No need to say anything about owned or anything like that, I believe that it's a misunderstood wich NCSoft don't want to try to clarify but what hurt here is that they don't want to explain or discuss the matter to clraify a possible missunderstood.
Even when you ask the when the incident happen on wich char so you can try to find a screenshot of that moment to prove the innocence they don't answer.

Are you kidding me? You have screen shots of every moment in game "just in case"?

First it s not me as ban people can't post here.
And no that person don't have screenshot of every moment she played. But as she have many screenshot she may have one from the time NCSoft suspect her of cheating.
And you know just a couple of screenshot is enough for each time you log. As I believe you can't switch for the official client to a 3rd party software without reloguing.
But NCSoft don't even want to let the one they banned to defend herself with this method as they don't want to explain anything ...

NCSoft doesn't have to give a warning, they also don't have to explain their actions regarding a banning. You break the EULA you get banned, nuff said.

lol you are funny.
First I m not speaking about myself.
Second you don't know the person I speak about so don't act as you did.
Third no one is perfect in this world and even NCSoft can make error sometime.
Asking for details so you can defend yourself when accused of something is normal.
Do you ever see a cop knocking at your door, telling you that you gonna live the rest of your life in jail for murder without telling you who when how ? Without having being judge by a court ?
So don't say it's normal to be ban without explaination.

I am stating the obvious but you realize that "3rd party software" doesn't necessarily mean botting, right?
I am stating the obvious but you realize that "3rd party software" doesn't necessarily mean botting, right?
... that may be obvious for you but I don't see what kind of program you can use as a 3rd party program that can work with L2 except for botting.
And really I don't care what you can do with a 3rd party software. I just care about in society people are supposed to be innocent before being judge and people are supposed to know what they are judge for so they can defend themselves.
Any other way to judge someone are unfair.

Then you need to educate yourself before proclaiming this person innocent.

Fortunately, NCSoft does.
I just care about in society people are supposed to be innocent before being judge and people are supposed to know what they are judge for so they can defend themselves.

This isn't society. This is a private club where the proprietors decide who gets to stay and who must leave. You must play by their rules. You *agree* to play by their rules every single time you sign on. One of their rules is they get to decide who plays and who does not.

Calembredaine i sugest you read page 6 of this topic what GM
HGMspam writed it clearly says what and whats not legal
also they dont have to give a reason and also the HGMspam clearly sayed they write why someone is banned for of all this people that are banned yet never showed what they are banned for i find very strange rater odd sinds their lay true in it
Telling to someone: "You are ban for the use of 3rd party software" is not enough telling someone why they are ban.
To Elrohir:
I don't need to educate myself that much when I know that on the computer of that person there is no other soft like windows, picture editor, emule, video/audio player and Lineage2 client.
Anyway HGMSpam said himself that 3rd party software means bot, jsut that bot is a word too ugly to be used.

I didn't say you were talking about yourself, I said NCSoft doesn't have to explain why they hand out a ban. That is normal for game companies. There is no law saying they have to explain to anyone why they ban your account, get over it and move on.
Well, maybe you don't pay for the game, but most of the people here are... customers. You know what a customer is? They are paying for an online game service.
And there are laws against the fact of selling a service, taking the money but not providing the service. So yes, NCsoft have to provide evidence of the breach to eula. Stating "you were banned because you used third party software" is not evidence. It's a statement, but certainly not evidence.
I don't know how it is in your country, but where i live, you are innocent until proven guilty.

That is most likely a statement about criminal charges and has nothing to do with weather or not the bouncer can throw you out of the club; he can throw you out even if there is a cover charge.
Should do is different than can do, you might be able to say that there should be a more thorough explanation for a ban but understand that it would be entirely NCSoft's choice and at their discretion as they can do whatever they want.
If they give information that is too precise it will give clues to the people making and using "3rd party software" on the techniques used to catch them.

Getting banned from the game isn't a criminal charge, and it states in the EULA that they can deny you service for any reason they like. You know the EULA? That thing you have to agree to every time you sign in? By logging in you are agreeing that they can boot you to the curb, no explanation necessary, whenever they feel like it. For whatever reason they choose to tell you or not tell you.

Oh and I live in the USA thanks.
I know the eula, and it is not what it is saying.
14. TERMINATION
(a)We may terminate this Agreement (including your Software license and your Account) immediately and without notice if you breach this Agreement or willfully infringe any third party intellectual property rights, or if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us, or upon game play, chat or any player activity whatsoever which is, in our sole discretion, inappropriate and/or in violation of the spirit of Lineage II as described in the Rules of Conduct. If we terminate this Agreement under any circumstances, you will lose access to your Account for the balance of any prepaid period without any refund.
but you must also consider this, it is very important :
15. GENERAL PROVISIONS
This Agreement is governed by and shall be construed and enforced under the laws of The State of Texas, without applying any conflicts of law principles which would require application of the law of any other jurisdiction. If any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be struck and the remaining provisions shall be enforced.
It is, in fact, a rather standard eula, they all make this provision.
mostly they close this sort topics becose it leads to nowhere
and they are right
the person that gets banned "agreed" to the eula and eula is well not alwas very clear but most part it is

The part in bold means they can ban you at any time for any reason, thanks for looking it up and proving my point.
Well, i guess you haven't read the rules of conduct either...
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the only thing you have proven so far is that if a GM wanted to ban someone without reason, you would be an excellent choice.
So i suggest NCsoft unban the person they have banned without reason, and ban you instead, as you seem ok with it.
