Drop on death please (inventory only)!!

Hi all!

I really wonder why they completly removed the drop of player items. In a game like Lineage II, it was a big thrill to avoid getting killed by monsters or even in the earlier days by players.

I myselve totally understand that loosing a Majestic Circlet these days or some other valuable item may be too drastic. But then WHY not just make it so that you drop some random items from your inventory (you could even increase the drop chance then)?

This would not be as harsh as it was, as people can always bring back their items into the WH and we could still train bots for their nice seal stones and mats etc.

I dont think that anyone would have a big problem with that. As you would never loose highly valuable items, except you take them in your backbag.

So what do you think? Would this feature not fit much better, then simply saying no to drop and thus drastically change a core component of L2? The current implemented death debuff is simply a joke. It serves no real purpose except another money sink...

Kind regards,
Rinea
It opens up the PvP aspect of the game more...I'm more willing to jump into a fight with my orc destroyer knowing i don't run the risk of dropping my sword/blunt/pole arm.
All it's done for me is cost me money. I didn't use to risk losing items on death (I hunt in very remote places, literally not seeing other players for days), so the cost of the scrolls has been pretty noticable (I can't manor where I hunt - or at least not reasonably).
Splatter, you're level 35 now? Nice! Bet you miss Ork town don't you. ;)
He's still in Elmore.

And I need to find him online so I can go buff him~ ><
With the new areas in elmore when C5 came out... I've never left yet.... I can live in elmore FOREVER

I'm still in elmore :D
i went venturing into new orc areas and saw bots.. i turned back.

This would not be as harsh as it was, as people can always bring back their items into the WH and we could still train bots for their nice seal stones and mats etc.

Roflcopter. And also, next thing to do is to put the bottraining forth as a game feature, write guides and manuals for it. PRIMA Guide revised, new section: where to train bots for what loot.
Also encourage all people to make spoiler dwarf alt (not for spoil, mind you).

The corruption of the game, developers and players is astonishing. Bots are to be banned, not be a base for new set of game rules. Successfulness of eula-enforcement is out of the discussion, i know. But still, trying to grasp for that feature to entertain your appetites the easy way, won't get you anywhere. Do feel the pain of having to work by other rules of the broken game. Make your own decisions based on that.
SkySapphire... I absolutely agree with you, BOTs are to be banned, but as we see same Bot trains over many months still alive doesnt give us other ways then to train them. At least on Teon, if you want to hunt for example in witch catacomb you need to train them so they "MAYBE" give you a spot to level. I know its sad but thats the way it is... sadly.

But please dont let this thread go into the wrong direction. I just wanted to say that loosing items from the inventory wouldnt be that much of a problem and in my eyes a good alternative to the now "absolute no drop" rule (which also helps those 923 who shouldnt be here anyway, I agree). But as it is now this was really a very harsh and drastically change out of nowhere...

Kind regards,
Rinea
well, for a dwarf and every class that needs to carry multiple weapons or armor in inventory it is a problem. i carry more than 100 items in my inventory all the time and it was a hassle to put back and forth all the mats in and out of WH all the time. now i don't have any spot left in WH and i actually carry all these items with me cause i have no choice :T
If you don't like it then you can always go red and risk your own gear....you keep your grubby little fingers out of my bags. I enjoy the fact I can now take my weapons and gear out of my bank without fear of dropping them to people like you.
There are ways to get rid of your unwanted little friends still you just need to find out how on your own server.
Same discussion in the Suggestions forum (where it belongs).
Splatter, unless you're chaotic, you don't drop items in PvP anyway, or didn't before anyway. Now you dont' drop anything unless your chaotic.

I myselve totally understand that loosing a Majestic Circlet these days or some other valuable item may be too drastic. But then WHY not just make it so that you drop some random items from your inventory (you could even increase the drop chance then)?

Because it means that your healer could lose her Majestic Circlet when she switches to DC robes in the field (and vice versa). Which is not particulary promoting field PvP.

This would not be as harsh as it was, as people can always bring back their items into the WH and we could still train bots for their nice seal stones and mats etc.

Why should we care about you benefitting from bots?

Not when the last hit was from a mob.

since when would a healer need 2 sets of armor?
When sets like blue wolf give the highest possible rez.
ya know everytime i see that avatar..I am thinking there is somebody standing behind her...poking her...to get her to make that expression....need I say more?....hmmmm...lol
I find the monetary loss for a death is still there. 1 scroll to remove the death penalty is alot of adena. You can't even get the stuff back when you need those scrolls. I like this system better now, because you can't lose a gamebreaking item, but you will lose something sometimes.

since when would a healer need 2 sets of armor?

Since long ago. I used to carry Demon and Divine sets when I levelled in Dragon Valley; Demon for solo and Divine for an occasional party.
The tradeoff was, you don't drop anything on death, but you can acquire a death penalty. Those can be expensive at higher levels to cure off.

since when would a healer need 2 sets of armor?

Majestic robes for a buffer are good but most of their set bonus (+MP and MP regen) is pretty useless in PvP, so Tallum or DC's +cast speed would probably be preferable.

I think the current changes are more likely to make PvP more interesting -- people may have multiple sets of gear or weapons so they can react to the situation better, plus a big incentive to BSOE is removed. In PvP with a mob hitting you, there used to be a very strong incentive to BSOE to remove any chance of the mob getting last hit; now it makes more sense to fight if you think you can win.

since when would a healer need 2 sets of armor?

Ask any overlord - robes for buffing and debuffing, heavy or light for solo and meelee party.
I for one am glad that there is no more drops on death in game. People who trained were people looking for shortcuts to getting money and/or cowards wo couldn't get a hunting spot otherwise. Now you have to get into the grind like the rest of us and fight for your hunting spot. Nothing wrong with getting your hands a little dirty and no worries about going red, you won't drop anything (for a while at least)...

Which brings about an interesting question...Has anyone dropped anything since C-5?

Rofl ... so much for pre 40 pvp... pvp is 75+ nowadays splat.

I aggree with the OP. We've all just turned carebears thanks to IC.
No risk, no honor.
I like it a lot, I can't even tell you how many times I've seen someone die in pvp but last hit to a mob and dropped gear they've never seen again. Or have been resting in a totally safe area but had some jerk train/fake death/switch the mobs onto a party clearly resting or buffless.

You can still try to SCAM people out of their gear people, geez.
I carry heavy armor and robes on my WC. Many ppl have posted about how this ultimately benefits botters. Training farmers was seriously one of the greatest perks in this game. Now ncsoft is turning into WoW, becoming more carebear each patch... what next seriously? bind on pickup mechanics?
how about ... NO! yeah thats sounds like a better idea.
how about...
YES!
No full drop items, just mats and stuff from your inventory would be nice.
It would have been that more funny when accidently I trained a ton of gorgyles and orc leaders onto a bot train of 9 when I died. :D
Holy BATMAN!!!!

About that avatar.....

It makes baby orcs cry

Monster deaths, at least for me, are unheard of except from lag/disconnect/crash. Losing items on death was incredibly frustrating because it was totally random. I mean, if they just made items randomly get deleted it would be the same effect. It wasn't thrilling, just horribly frustrating to lose hard-earned items for circumstances beyond my control. It's bad enough that I lose XP randomly.

I myselve totally understand that loosing a Majestic Circlet these days or some other valuable item may be too drastic. But then WHY not just make it so that you drop some random items from your inventory (you could even increase the drop chance then)?

A lot of people carry spare weapons or armor sets for situational use, especially having one for PvE and another for PvP. This is especially true for melee, who will often carry at least a bow for when they get rooted in PvP.
an idea based on "how much this makes me richer when i train bots" is not something the whole playerbase can enjoy.

get a clue.
I can se why NCsoft do some of these changes, but...
let it stop, I dont want this game to look like wow. I have played wow, and its for kids. no thrill, pvp in that game is pointless.
And if they make items BoP (bind on pickup) in Lineage, I quit.

actually wow pvp isnt pointless. its consentual, but it does have a point. when you win, you gain faction reputation (if you fought other factions that are hated) and when you have enough faction rep, you can gain better gear.
I see people thinking about dropping just stuff in the inventory saying it's not importnat stuff anyway.

Yes, you could drop some SS or pots, but there are also things that are worth a lot that can be drop from there.

I don't need to mention extra armors and weapons, but there is something that wasn't mentionned that is actually worth almost as much as the character with it, pets.

Pets are hard to level and people with high level pets surely don't want to drop it just because it's sitting in their inventory.

Nope, no drops at all is the sweet way to go, and my thanks to NCSoft for finally take that part out of the game.

And if you really need to drop something to be happy when you die, if you die roll a die and if you get an even number, throw something on the floor and leave it there.

You'll be happy because you lost something from dying, and 'll be happy cause I don't have too.

theres the problem
classes like dorfs and glads and over lords and... well basically anything that isnt a nuker or archer can carry multiple weapons and armor in inventory
as a dorf i usually carry a fair few mil worth of ore and crystals for crafting

back before the patch i lost a set of dc boots in pvp when a mob got last hit (not exactly hard when the average pvp lasts less than 10 seconds and the average gank lasts under 2 seconds)
if i had dropped my helm instead of the boots it would have destroyed me (also had meteor shower with focus in inventory)
it was at that point that i realized what the risks were and reverted back to wearing avadon

you can say this only benefits farmers but alot of ppl in my clan are haveing alot more fun now they can play the class they want wearing what they want
:( As I see some people didn't even read my words or misunderstood me... so maybe I should clarify this...

I myseleve dont train bots nor players for gear (I did this on occasions when I needed a spot in witch or so, but as a Gladi you really cant train well anyway :)). Also as we are a neutral PvE focused clan, you can make yourselve a picture about how I would love to train people for items !?

The big difference is that, I even played Ultima Online where you dropped all gear except what you wear upon death (Sure there you did not have much with you!). But in my eyes it was a great system... even I myselve didnt pvp there, but the risk out there in the forest was awesome. And also if you got robbed of your items, this created some nice "pvp conflicts", which is what finally makes it a diversive game...

But yes, I totally understand that loosing expensive gear can be a bit too frustrating thus only loose a certain number of inventory items. And if people really wear other sets then why not make it "No Full Drops" (like the mobs lol :) ), but everything else - or even a percentage of gold (so people would finally have to bring money more on the bank to protect it etc.)... there would be several ways to make death not as frustrating, but to give some others a reward...

In my eyes the now implemented "No Drop" rule is not really well thought out and doesnt fit into the original concept of L2.

Kind Regards,
Rin

WOWOWOW. Kinda general there aren't ya bud? People play the game in different ways for different reasons. I trained bots not only for the potential for a drop of an item but also because I was trying to discourage them from staying in the area thus freeing it up for REAL players. To that end, I must have received 100's of messages of thanks from newbies for freeing up areas where newbies hunted. Your statement about "the grind" makes zero sense as I "grinded" my levels out just like any other legit player. I just choose to use my "skills" to help promote the gaming experience for new players. I always took extra efforts to ensure I was NOT training live players. AFAIK I never did.

IMHO people who cheat are open for any within game retribution that we can use, like training, and if something dropped cool…if it didn't oh well. BTW -I still have most of the stuff so even your "quick money" statement is wrong.

I resent your implication that we "trainers" did what we did simply because we were "people looking for shortcuts to getting money and/or cowards". I'll bet my PvP score is 3X yours…not really the actions of a coward wouldn't you say? And for that matter my PK is 3X yours too. I was never afraid of going red for a specific purpose. How bout you? Cowardice? I think not. Can no where near care bear. Can you say the same?
What does a PvP score prove exactly? Post your and I'll bet by the end of the week I can fake up double that. Does that make me pwn more than you?

Actually that is a very good point. I've fallen for the false pvp twice in my L2 career. Both times I lost and the winner got a pvp point with absolutely no fear of losing.

One was when someone showed up with noob gear on and asked if I wanted to pvp. I usually say no but then thought I should be a good sport. So I hit him, do 6 damage and he wastes me with one shot.

Second time I was screwing around with a character on Bartz (just wanted to see what the noob areas on a higher population server was like) and I see a character pvping someone in the distance. He wins.

He then comes running over to me and hits me. Now, as I target him and let one off I suddenly realize that he doesn't have a weapon in his hand. I do very little damage and he one shots me. He then runs away saying "I love PvP".

These are the weakest players in my opinion. Not that I am saying that they shouldn't have the right to play in this manner if they want. But racking up pvp points by engaging in conflicts with no chance of losing is at best weak.

At worst, I wonder what it says about said individuals.

Now, If a higher lvl player wants to go around and openly pking people, then fine. It is what it is. But tricking your opponent so that you don't go red?

THIS is carebear.

I don't think there is any other measure we can use to evalulate in game leetness. Also my point was that my PvP score realtes directly to my willingness to fight. Not something a "coward" would be willing to do. If you feel the need to dummy up your PvP account that is your business. I haven't done that on mine and that is, IMHO, what counts.
To OP, i think the PvP system is fine now, we can finnally be sure to not drop anything valuable anymore and that will incourage more PvP.

Also, i know alot of players enjoy carying more then one set and 1 weapon because they get to be more efficient while hunting, they should not be penalized because only a handful of ppl are training bots for the potential good drop.

I say leave the system as it is now, it will encourage PvP and trainers, might need to find other methods of cash earnings if this is why u where training bots in the first place.

Else, if its because you want to hlp new players or what not, then you can still train them, nothing changed there. You just wont make a dime off of them. Which , to me, is a minor problem compared to the big positive change it as brought us.

Cheers!!

My point, obviously, went completely over your head.

People that boast their PvP scores are the ones that I generally ignore. Those that have earned a fair amount of PvP victories in decent fights are the ones that do not need to boast their PvP scores. Their reputation preceeds them.
I have 3PVP 3PK

I'm so Uber 1337!

Your point didn't make any sense. If I missed it, it was because it was poorly presented and in no way related to what we were talking about. I liken it to someone coming late to a conversation on quantum psychics and yells "Tuesday!!"…and is expected to be seen as brilliant….

I used the example of a PvP metric as a illustration of my willingness to stay and fight for an area or for a specific reason. ...

AND The only reason I used it was to show that I don't have a problem getting my hands "dirty" which is what the poster (to whom I was replying to) said was something we needed to do…I know of no "other" way/method to show this "willingness"…do you? Please share…..

Please notice that I didn't say a number of PvP/PK's just that I have them, and in all likely hood, many more then the original poster has (to who I was responding…)

Your involvement in that post and reply was, in fact, hardly relevant to what we were talking about. And after reading your response it's clear that the entire post/re-post process was entirely over your "head"

In other words I guess it could be said that your involvement/input was completely unnecessary, irrelevant and a total waste of time.

Other then that, thanks for your time and thanks for playing Lineage II.

LOL

And I pointed out that it is a meaningless metric. I also stated that people that say things like "I'll bet my PvP score is 3X yours…" are usually the ones that have something to prove. However, the people that are truly respected don't need to shout their PvP scores to anyone.

I was responding to your idiotic "I'll bet my PvP score is 3X yours…" statement. Is that your clan title?

Nah, I quantum mechanic in my spare time so it leaves the afternoons free.

Ok, it's all about you princess.

Unfortunately you didn't answer or coherently relate the meanings of the original posts. Like I said if you have a different way of showing, on this messageboard, willingness to "get your hands dirty" in game, please share.

Maybe you do it by sheer number of posts…in that case you are clearly the winnar.

I have my methods but I don't have to announce them to everyone in some kind of bid to prove my leetness. If you know me in game, you know what I do and stand for. I have absolutely nothing I need to prove to the likes of you.

Wow, is that the best you can come up with? I excepted more from a quantum physicist. I certainly expected one to know a useless metric when he sees one.

Are you going to now say that the amount of adena on your toon is a measure of how good you are at playing the market?
Now, now guys.....

I am pretty much willing to use whatever metric you can come up with that will illustrate what I am talking about. Please enlighten me to what should be used.

However, I really haven't seen anything from you that indicates you have a better one...just that you dislike the one I chose. Sorry about that...

And let me ask one question, why wouldn't ones relevant wealth be a clear indicator of ones' success at playing within L2 economy? I am pretty sure it's what Wall Street uses and I would have thought it would be obvious to someone like you who has 3X more $$ then I. <---per your statement.

Is acquiring wealth in game then wrong? How would you measure success? By your blue in your title?

I am pretty much willing to use whatever metric you can come up with that will illustrate what I am talking about. Please enlighten me to what should be used.

Unless you have seen each PvP point won, it is useless. If you cannot understand that, there's nothing else I can say. It is useless. You can't post a screenshot of your PvP score and prove you are better than anyone else.

However, I really haven't seen anything from you that indicates you have a better one...just that you dislike the one I chose. Sorry about that...

That's because there aren't any good ones. None.

This should be obvious but I'll point it out. Someone can get a new account, ebay a ton of adena and post a shot of it. I guess then you'd say to them "Gratz on your success in the market."

Is acquiring wealth in game then wrong? How would you measure success?

Never said anything about it's inherent rightness or wrongness. I am merely pointing out that adena total is another useless metric.

That said, I don't measure my success in life (or this game) by my bank account. I can see, however, that you only respond to numbers on the screen.
can we get back on topic...wait what was it originally about?

Mostly about people crying that they can't train bots for easy gear anymore.

PvP count could be a metric for your willingness to win, but not for your readiness to lose. So, it says nothing about how actually cowardish or brave you are.

Do you want to know my PvP count? It's zero, and I don't expect it to change (well, at least until I subclass). Delivering the last hit is not my job anyway.

I play the game from the POV of within the rules. So when I respond to things I don't even consider the methods used to artificially boots your PvP count and/or bank account. I also used the PvP/PK metric because it is a measure of your willingness to fight for a specific reason. And yes it does not show how many times I tried and lost. I don't really track such things. Also the game itself uses PvP/PK as a measure when calculating Karma. (And yes, I am very aware of the sin eater quest…so that measure can be skewed but on the whole it's as accurate as we can be…hence why I mentioned it)

I do see the real problem here. This is not about dropping items on death, it's not about PvP/PK counts, its not about anything even mentioned here, its really all about making the game as low risk as possible so we can be good little lemmings and be kind to each other so we don't, for goodness sakes, offend anyone.

I still train bots and plan to continue to do so. The dropping of items by bots was cream but not necessary. I like the idea of the potential of dropping things on death even if it's just from the non-equipped inventory. I choose to take issue with being called a coward for doing what I clearly think of as providing a service for newbie's. And if there was a bit of $$ in it for me so be it. Shall I tell you how many times I've dropped equipment to a new player after a bot dropped it?? Hmmm??

You all talk about making the game better, I actually go out and TRY. It’s the way I like to play and who are you to tell me it's wrong?

My experience with this is overwhelmingly POSITIVE if you count the "thank you's" I get. And I see no reason to change.

You know this used to be a open PvP game where people could play the way they wanted to (either evil or good) but...I can see now that is gone and the age of the care bear is here.

Welcome to WoW.
Sorry, I don't quite get what you are saying.

I do see the real problem here. This is not about dropping items on death, it's not about PvP/PK counts, its not about anything even mentioned here, its really all about making the game as low risk as possible so we can be good little lemmings and be kind to each other so we don't, for goodness sakes, offend anyone.

So your saying that because one does not get drops when training players it makes everyone non-offensive lemmings?

Nothing has changed about anything you talked about besides you not getting drops from the bots you train to give to the newbs. If it isn't about not getting drops from bots what is your problem again? It has to be either greed, you miss the fear of losing your stuff, you miss causing others fear of losing their stuff, or you miss the feeling of being Robin Hood - stealing from the bots to give to the newbs. That is all that is different. It is still open pvp, you can still be good or evil - why is that gone?

You know this used to be a open PvP game where people could play the way they wanted to (either evil or good) but...I can see now that is gone and the age of the care bear is here.

Except I think this, overall, will increase PvP, not decrease it. It makes the game LESS carebear. People will be XPing in better gear with a better selection of weapons/gear, and they'll be less likely to BSOE if they see an enemy to avoid having a mob get the last hit.

More PvP = Less carebear.

Not really.

What was making us the opposite of carebears were the risks we were taking.

What's the deal in engaging pvp when you can be brezzed and not drop.
There's no risk. Period. And where's the courage of fighting when you can't lose anything ?
No risk, no honor.

What was making us ruthless was pvping DESPITE the fact we could drop 50mils.
Tron or Super Mario Kart also are PvP mind you...
Players versus Players... yeah. But without any risk of losing anything. And without the thrill.

Moreover the drops were the only positive aspects of bots. We coudl farm the farmers, which we can't.
Drops used to be a real crowd control in ToI or catas. Now they can go unharmed in top gear.

Why should we care about you benefitting from bots?

since when would a healer need 2 sets of armor?

Not to mention if you can afford a DC and Maj helm you're probably not pressed for adena anyway... *ahem*
I must say I dislike the "non droppable inventory" thingy also.

Yes I did like training "friends", it was thrilling and exciting and the drops were just a nice dessert in the end of main course. But I dont complain cause of losing any of my income, but cause of losing the excitement, the adrenaline rush when I see myself low hp and knowing that I may lose smth valuable.

Yea you say - roll dice and drop something, but you know what, its not the same. I love L2 because its not an easy game, I've played WoW, GWs, RO, FF and more MMORPGs that I cant even remember now, but I always come back to L2. Why? Cause its exciting, but the recent changes in gameplay make it easier and easier.. soon there's nothing left for me, that made the game more precious to me than any other MMO.

I dont care about money, items so much. I love grind, hard work, but most of all - HARD game, that needs some skills and not just to go around, do quests, no worries, everything is flowery and sunny.. pffff.

So those who are happy about those changes - you never felt happy if your enemy dropped something upon dieing, never felt this thrilling fear that if you go to area, which is too high for you, but you want to try... Sure 180milj. worth of helmet is "ouuuuch", but for me - if I have everything, I get bored - nothing to work for. Never-ever there are those "oh-crap" situations when you can call up your clannies and they hurry to you, to pick up the valuable item.... rush back to the area and find that the item you dropped is still there.. those moments make it all up to me.

I wouldnt say this system is carebear system, but it sure is carefree system and I miss the adrenaline... I really do :(

There was no actual risk in the first place, just an inconvenience, - for those who didn't want the risk. So nothing really changed, except that now PvEing people bring some stuff with them that would be safely stored in their WHs before.

If you were speaking about returning to C1 drop rules, where were no BSoEs, and you had an 1% risk of dropping your equipped weapon on death, and your group had no priority in picking it up, it would be a real difference. Are you sure you want that? You don't? Carebear! :p

You know, not everyone ebays them. Some people actually grind for their recipes.
