Aha...My dream come true....

Was reading the Chaotic Throne announcement notes and if they do what they say they are, I think I will be very pleased with the unplayable NPC's that will be in battle. Now if only they do it right.

I would really love to see the NPC race sign up to siege castles, fortresses, and clan halls. I think they should be able to form based on the strength of the defending clans and I would love it if they would siege castles especially when no one else has signed up to siege and sometimes even when other clans do (although to make this fair, only clans that sign up for sieges would be able to participate in them).

An aggressive and challenging NPC race would make the game dynamic so much more appealing by getting rid of the stagnation and boredom that sometimes makes the higher level players migrate on to other interests. I wonder if it would be possible to give the NPC leaders a pseudo-hero status and make em very hard to kill?

All-in-all if it can't be done in CT-1...I'm hopeful that it can be done in a later installment. Only time will tell..

I have to agree a NPC run race sounds great
I will have to completely disagree. I can only see problems coming from this. (And I must point out, also, that adding a "smart" NPC race that does things like sieging castles reminds me more of single player games than MMOs.)

Whether the NPC race sieges castles, randomly wanders around or shows up in specific events, it would cause problems. Think back to the Raid Boss events we've had in the past. Upon hearing of a RB pop, people would gather up, then PvP over which ally gets to do the boss. All the time the people are PvPing, the RB is just nicely standing there, waiting for them to finish what they are doing. However, an NPC race would be joining in and trying to kill everyone. As anyone who has PvPed around aggro mobs knows, it is nearly impossible to pvp when 5+ mobs are hitting you at the same time. Even if you manage to kill your opponent, by the time you can turn your attention to the mobs you're overrun. Who would want to be in that situation? Maybe in Korea something like this would cause warring allies to join together with the common goal of killing the NPCs, but not in NA. Here it's more likely that a person would pretend they were going to help you and then pull back and laugh as you died to the NPCs. We don't trust our enemies, and for good reason.

And hero status for these mobs? Why? Are not dungeon mobs hard enough for you? Do you not get enough grind already? Why introduce more mobs to the game? (Because that is what they are, even if we call them an NPC race.)

I just don't see how this would add anything enjoyable to the game. Even if they just sieged a castle when no one signed up for it, that would suck. As fun as sieges are, no one likes loosing their castle. And in particular, loosing your castle to an NPC race would be really frustrating.
Then you would have to defend it wouldn't you? It would force owners of castles on siege day to stay with there castle and not jump to another to siege it and leave there castles undefended. You have a responisblity to defend your castle.. or you loose it. Makes perfect sense to me.

Apparently on your server they don't ninja castles, cuz on my server they do. It's already that way - leave you castles undefended or unattended and you loose it.
I don't know.... You took the castle from the NPC's, only seems right that they have a chance to take it back.... :D
if the attacking force is based on the defending clans, a enemy ally just have to pass by 'mess up 'the defence a bit and let the npc,s take the castle

An NPC army of equivalent levels and equpiment to a PC army would win easily, as they would not suffer lag or targeting problems, or any other types of problem that a normal players has during mass combat.
doubt that. there is the whole human intelligence vs an AI thing. unless the NPC army was supervised by a GM (which would be kind of neat), players would quickly pick up on the holes and flaws in NPC's AI and exploit them.

this could be a lot of fun, or it could not. kind of depends on how it gets implemented, really. given NCSoft's past track record I'm not holding up a lot of hope, but we'll see.

Exactly...

I'm sure that, with time, even the forces that it seems they have ready for national wars will be picked apart by the human equation. There's always one or two smarty-arts that find loopholes in the design structure.

And as far as enemy clans breaking down your defense as well so you lose a castle or fortress.... I can't think of a better reason to have a clan war...can you?

That's why you need a highly adaptive design structure - which can be easily changed by the GMs to fit the player's counter-strategy.

Imagine coming up with the perfect defense against the NPC horde ... which works once, only for them to change their strategy two weeks later, making your defense a liability instead. Fun! Adapt or lose.
that'd be nice. I wouldn't expect it, though. maybe in L3, whenever/if ever it comes out.

probably what we'll get is a zerg, maybe led by a raid boss type mob, that'll go in a straight a line as they can through your defenses. attack the wall/gate (maybe with a seige weapon, that'd be neat) and just keep going.

it'll be neat to see. the real benefit is if it makes people actually defend their castles. even if no one signs up to attack, you still must keep some presence there or else. makes it harder for alliances to hold multiple castles, which is a good thing, IMHO.
they had this before, where you could siege at any time(not saying that's what you're talking about but) someone would always ahve to be at the castle afraid someone would come and take it. people would be at work and an aposing clan would login and take the castle when no one was there...

anyway...i'm not even on topic i don't think, forgot what i was talking about

LoL..nah...I wouldn't want to see someone lose their castle simply because they have silly things like jobs and family to attend to. But I am hoping that the NPC force will make castle owners and fortress owners really have to work to keep em. High level players need the challenge!!!

I'd imagine that the sieging NPC's levels would be simliar to the Merc's levels. I.e. Goddard Siege NPC's would be mediocre and aden Sieging NPC's can kill a 65+ in three hits.

Gee...I hope not..

I mean it really wouldn't be any fun unless the Sieging NPC's were at least level 65-80 at all sieges. That would keep everyone on their toes. Also...I hope the new NPC Force has different siege weapons...

In lineage 1 Dark Elves were an NPC race that exactly did this and people loved it.

Later Dark Elves became a playable race and everyone wanted to be one.

Want some cheese to go with your whine?
They need to add rakes and hoes, and overalls and straw hats for all the farmers on this game. That would be a funny event.
Who are we gonna whine to when an NPC ganks us?

Who are we gonna whine to when an NPC ganks us?

when L2 came out, all guard were "high" lvl and could gank any1..

now most players have outlvled the guards and can in most cases 3-shot them w/o taking any damage themself

even dorfs can solo them so they realy need a lvl upgrade cause L2 have turned into a carebear grief game with easy but long grind

if ur loosing a castle cause ur not defending it, its ur own fault
if ur smart u keep atleast a small group to defend and if they get problems u call back the rest cause it dosent take that long to get back to a castle
what i want to remove is the ability to let alt clans crest the castle.. it gives clans an unfaire advantage during the seal period ++
a sieging clan "always" have 30+ players or should have in C5, so to crest u need 30+ ppl in clan and all 30 has to be above lvl 60+

anyway... sieges need to be fixed.. this is for guards too... all guards are dark blue
