Second Thoughts about my Class

Player Questions Started Last reply 19 posts
Hi Guys,

I finally hit elven wizard... but now the clan leader says that trying to be an elemental summoner is a bad idea because I won't be able to afford doing summons and what not. I basically was told that a spellsinger is much better.

However, from the research that I have done it seems like being a spellsinger would involve huge amounts of downtime between leveling periods. Also, it seems like a class that would kind of require a recharger. I would like to have the ability to be able to solo if needed without massive downtime, which is why I was originally set on elemental summoner.

So from your experiences do you guys think that I should change my plan and be a spellsinger or should I stick with elemental summoner. Are the money issues really a concern with the summoner and is the downtime really the issue with the spellsinger? Thanks in advance for any insights you guys have!
Im SPS LVL 70.
SPS is the only Mage Class without BTM.
Before update was i had many Downtimes, 8 minutes play, 10 minutes sit. But now with the new Herbs it is much easyer then before. If you have luck u can play hours over hours withhout recharger and breack. But u need tones of herbs.

Summoners are not my Favorite, well the Summons are realy expensive and takes EXP. And what i know is that Elfen Summon not realy rock. This is what i heard about Summoner.

Note : SPS haves the fastest Castspeed and Overhit Skills for more exp

I hope it helps a little
Ok your first problem here. You might not want to play the class you originally wanted because someone else said its not a good idea. Thats not a good way to play. Ask any dwarf out there how many times they have been asked why they dont play a better class. By the time you hit 40 you should be able to afford the crystals needed to summon. I like the idea of ES. Im making one myself. Do whatever class you want to do man. I personally think ES would be alot more fun than just another nuker.
I've not played your class but an easy way to work out your costs (roughly) is look at your skills in the library section. There it lists how many crystals are needed for summoning. Baring in mind your summons aren't permanent you can work out an average cost for every time you summon them.

Also depending on where you level down time won't always be an issue, many places have the pot drops so downtime is hugely reduced.

Hope that helps a little :)
Play the class you like more. And noone but yourself could say which class is better for you.
Ya honestly I think the playstyle of the summoner will be the most fun for me regardless of additional costs. It seems that since an ES has more of an independence to gear it shouldn't be a big deal. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't horribly gimped or something before I picked it. :)
I may be wrong. But I would think you wont have to worry about gear quite as much being a summoner. You will have help doing damamge so having top gear wont be as much of an issue..I dont know for sure though. Mine isnt an ES yet.
Play what you like playing and -_- what eveyone else says about your class.

A game is ment to be enjoyed. If you dont play what you like playing, you wont enjoy the game.

Yes you migth have adena problems, but thats just means you wont be in full gear as soon as you reach a new grade (as the game was ment to be). You will have to be a bit more patient than most other classes, but if you enjoy playing your class, you wont mind.

Thank you Nos, I am tattooing this on my butt as I I write this.

To the OP.

Figure out what you want and "be" that. If you find that you don't enjoy it then that is something else. But there are plenty of Elemental Summoners out there who have no problem playing their class. They understand what the pros and cons are.

From what I understand, summoners have very little downtime.

It might even be possible to get away without using shots as you have another damage dealer there.

I seriously wouldn't worry about it.

You don't want to be living your life where people are telling you what you should/shoudn't do becasue they feel it's not worth it. If everyone did that we would have a very different society.
Thats a pretty big statement to tattoo there. Will it all fit? What size font are you planning to use? Well I guess this is a step in the right direction. My dream is to have something I said in someone elses sig. Tattoo on the butt is progress?
and the cost issue really isn't. at 52, I can make about 150k ish just off of adena drops per hour. if I'm doing the manor thing, that is easily about 500k or so per hour, total. in return, I spend about 100k or less on shots and crystals in that hour, much less if I don't spam shots.

plus, you don't have to worry about gear as much. for instance, my b weapon is simply a set of Tsu's I dual'ed. total cost less than 25kk (a good deal of that for the b wep enchants for +4) vs the 50kk or more for a top b wep. I'm also seriously considering never upgrading my gear again until I get to a sub class that needs it(IE sometime after the 5th of never).

yeah, never let anyone tell you what class to play. play what you like. my two main toons are a warsmith and a warlock, neither could be considered uber toons.
As i've always said....

Play what you enjoy!

Summoners are not bad classes. I have a 7x Phantom Summoner (making steady progress towards Spectral Master :)) and I don't regret choosing it.

There are pros and cons. In groups, you get less XP than everyone else. You use a lot of consumables (but the SPS is much more strongly gear-dependent so it kind of evens out.). You won't kick *** in PvP to the levels an SpS will. On the flip side, you can solo very well, you can do AoE better than the mages, and in general, if you don't have buffpets/rechargepets your DPS over a long time will be higher simply as the SPS runs out of MP.

Bottom line, they're different classes but neither is a bad class. And honestly, play what you enjoy, not what your clan leader would enjoy. There are people who love playing classes I can't stand to play. That doesn't mean they're wrong (or that I am wrong), just that we're different people who like different things.

First of all, thanks for the reply. However, I don't live my life that way. I was just making sure that I was making a good decision on the basis that I am a new player and unaware of all of the intricacies of L2. It is very possible in an MMO to have a class that is lacking in capabilities compared to other classes to the point where it is not worth the effort until it is balanced out in a patch.
I have never played a summoner, but from what I've seen, it seems summoners can actually kill mobs faster and a lot cheaper with the summons. they just have to spend more time picking up the loot.

Play what you enjoy. after you do it enough, you will find playing areas/quests/whtever that will fit your playing style, and allow you to grow.
read above posts. play what you like! Im sure summoners are nice to play, I have been thinking to make one myself (warlock tho)
Monetarily, there is not a single reason to chose the SpS over the Elemental Summoner.

The Elemental Summoner can run quests without sharing the drops, the elemental summoner can hunt without shots altogether, the elemental summoner can use AoE (starting at roughly leve 48 if you're alert) to cut shot costs, and last but not least, the elemental summoner can manor - manor can put you comfortably in levelling gear, and beyond that, you will need to play the market, at which spellsingers are not better than elemental summoners - it's a pure player thing.

There are many, many, many reasons not to play the class.

Money is not one of them.
Like others have stated, play the class you want...not what your clan leader or anyone else really wants you too, cause that will just cause you to reroll, quit, or blame ur clan leader everytime you log in.

Money isn't that big of a deal for summoners because you can pretty much solo whenever u want and keep all the stuff for yourself. Think of the crystals you give your summon, the drops that a few party members would take.

The problem comes where most likely you will not get parties, especially being an elemental summoner, Warlocks at least get a buff that people want...lol... Anyway, it is your choice.

Spellsingers are a good choice if you want some high damage pvp.

A spellsinger will have down time, but like someone also said the herbs help a lot.

It is actually quite odd, when I needed to make my choice as an elven wizard to go summon or nuker, I almost went summon. Downtime becomes less if u can party with an SE and clan mates...

So for a short run down.

Go Summoner if you want less down time and maximum solo ability, where u can log in, log out and be done without having to find a group or have your own dual boxed SE. Oh yes, and the unicorn you have to like, so if you don't like Unicorns go SpS.

So Spellsinger if you want to be the fastest caster in game. Have some pretty cool spell animations. Like the "nuker" style over the "servitor" style. Want to become a top pvp competitor. And definitely will not mind down time if soloing (read books, forums?).
