How long is it gonna take?

Just starting in L2 and I hear everyone always talk about the grind when talking about L2 but I'm curious how long it actually takes to level in L2.

So how many hours typically to level to 20, 40, 50, 60, 70?
Depends what class u are and if u party or not. but pre 70 it goes kinda fast and i think i will get from 75 to 76 in some 50h.
I have to say Dizz, you have the wrong outlook on the game. If you're asking how many hours till level 20, 40, 60... The games going to kill you right there.

Enjoy the ride
What they said. It all depends on you class.

If you want to level the slowest, choose a Tank or a Dwarf.
Want the fastest, choose a Nuker or Archer. Nukers and Archers will cost you an arm and a leg to run, untill you get to a certain point where it does a 180 degree flip.

There are also the mobs themselves. You can hunt certain mobs and go flat broke, or you can hunt certain mobs, go crazy with your expences and make 10x the amount of cash than what you put in it.

It's all upto you and your class of choice.
um, well, depends on person to person, really. I've been playing since the beginning of 2005, and in that time of lvled 1 toon to lvl 50+, 2 to lvl 40+, 1 to lvl 30+, and a few more to around 20 or so.

of course, I did have about 3 months or so off this summer as I was moving.

mind you, I only average about 2 hours a day. I work and have a life outside of l2. I'm currently happy with 1 level on my main toon a week (or week and a half) and/or a couple levels on my alts.

someone who can devote more time to L2 would level much faster than I, 'specially one who spent most of their time in groups in necros and such.

which is kind of the point. some people could (and have on Franz) make the dash from 1-75 in two or three months. others take a bit more time. (*coughSplattercough*)

leveling time is different from class to class, from person to person.

hard and fast numbers really don't exist.
9 months of 1-8h a day for 74
lvling is generally not measured in hours but in days and weeks

takes about 2 months to go 40-75 on a nuker properly equipt with an out of party buffer for any melee class i doubt you could do it in under 4 months unless you had 3 or 4 support toons out of party
Thanks for the responses so far, I'm not asking to be critical of the game. I'm asking cause I want to pvp and be competive doing it, so I'm curious how long it will take to get to the levels so I can do that.

I asked for it in hours because saying 2 months doesn't mean anything when some people play 6 hours and day and others only play 6 hours a week.
Well, my WarCryer gets 4-5% per hour soloing, and when I duo with a BD i can get 7 or even 8% per hour.
Lvl 73 spellhowler friend (a fast leveling class and she got a suport with her at all times) gets 2-3% per hour.
I was getting 5% an hour at 74 with OOP SE.. So it depends on finding a good hunting spot, buffs, PVP finding it's way to you, and of course luck..
You can make 60 in a month or two of fairly heavy playing, especially if you are a nuker or a high demand class.
Well I can say this much at lv 73, it takes me about 50 hours to get 1 lv or so about.

At 60 I knew it was around 15-20 hours to get 1 lv.

And I'm one of the slowest chars in the game thought when I party I'm in quite good groups, been in way worser.
Level 75 Sorcerer at 60%. I just calculated the other day that it will take me ~20 hours with OOP SE buffs to get to 76.

Leveling up becomes exponentially more difficult. The first 20 levels will fly by. Getting to level 40 isn't too bad either. But after that is when the grind really starts to kick in. I would venture to say that most people will have a difficult time going from 1-70+ without taking a break by playing other characters.
as a TH, I got several levels/day pre 60. low 60's I got 15% / h. late 60's 10+%/h. low 70's ~5%/h.
all with oop se/pp

but, you should enjoy the game, the game doesent start at lvl80, its starts at lvl 1.
Duoed only with myself (EE/PP) I get about 15%/h at 41. I get around 30%/h if I have a real DD (TH or BD) in the group though - and we're not in an 'ideal exp spot' (EV is sorta poor) - I'm sure we could push for 35 or maybe 40 if we tried, or if I got both the TH and the BD kidnapped at the same time. =)

OMG this is like the best thing I've ever read about lineage.

I wish everyone would remember this instead of rushing or cheating to get the most powerful toon possible in the shortest amount of time.

I'm pretty content with my 6X main atm, I'm fairly strong and respectable, but I also enjoy leveling nubs (from level 1 to whenever) and so I spend a lot of time on alts too, because I ENJOY the game, and the different experience you get playing different classes.

Also at least on my server people don't stay at endgame very long... even as noblesse heros they don't seem to last a month, they tend to get bored and quit pretty quickly. Enjoy the journey, have some alts, and make projects for yourself, if you really want to stay interested. My own projects involve making money and OEing stuff, and it's a challenge to do these things legitly.
a necro can go 74-75 in 4 days with an out of party se
those are pretty hardcore grinding days though with a minimum of 7 hours each so 28 hours
Make good friends and get ventrillo cause that will make the leveling easier. Its us as friends in vent talking about junk in game, what we did in RL or what happend at work (like getting fired for playing with a knife,LOL..you know who you are) is what makes the game imo...cause I wouldn't have been able to play this game for over a year solo..If i wanted to play a game this long solo I would've played the Final Fantasy series over and over....to me this game is 70% people 30% game...
on that Note have fun...
76 to 77 took me 10 hours.

Agrees totally :)

76 to 77 took me 10 hours.

You give up on the bishop as your 2nd subclass? Too hard to level up?
I dont count the hours but... :

I play since last Year December - 1x SE64,1x BD62,1xBH55
(and some low toons..to try..)
btw. i have a job and work Mo~Fr ;)

..if u go to school or be unemployed..and play a nuker..u'll lvl fast as hell....

Well, you can pvp at any level. Nothing warms my heart quite like passing through Fellmere Harvest area and catching two low level fighters cleaning each others clocks over a hunting ground dispute. (I stayed to watch and gave the winner 1.5M adena, and gave the loser 1M adena. Not exactly a championship prize fighting purse, but adena well spent for the laughs.)

As for the grind, I work full time and then some, keep a social life and still managed to level a couple of toons to A grade in just over a month with limited game play. The trick is to pick the right class, hunt the right mobs, and use an overenchanted weapon, lots of 'shots, pots and/or a dedicated out of party buffer.

click on the link of my signature, 1200 hrs !!!!

you better tell him the truth...

if you are a noob with no money, with no clan, there is no way you can reach lv 60 in a month. come on, this game is weapons/armors depandent.

i got a lv 65 sh, if i unequip my weapons, i got diffculities in killing lv 30 mobs.

that explained why high lv weapons are super expensive!

good point
you can go 0-40 in 2 days but only if you have the buffs and the gear
