Couple OL Questions

So I have my overlord all set and ready at 41 (yeah, not impressive just yet) and I'm pretty anxious about the pvp prospects for him. As it stands with my main a sws, I do bring a lot to the group I'm with as far as pvp goes, but I'm not much of a contender offensively myself. So I figured an OL would bring a mix of party utility that I've grown acustom to bringing to my clan, as well as offensive capabilities that wouldn't leave me quite as lacking as my sws is.

So with that in mind, I'm curious to know from more seasoned OL's out there how you fair in pvp. Specificly what you would say your greatest advantages are, and how you approach general combat. Also, what classes pose the most challenge to you as an OL that would be good to know early on?

I'm sure most of this will come with time and experience into my new orc, but I do like to do my homework early so to speak, and any advice I can get I'd appriciate a great deal. As it stands I wasn't able to find many overlord specific posts or general info guides that were very substancial. If I'm missing any particularly good reads on the class I'd love to be pointed in the right direction :) Anyhoo, thanks for having a look, and for anything you may like to share here.

Daggers own you.

I have more problems with them than any other class bar none.

Your debuff seals, at times, will fail you. Your sleep is awsome, if you can get your flame seal to land, there is no cure.

Your soul guard and soul cry are the bomb but in grouping, your heart is the one thing that can make or break a group.

Now, if you are against a group about your level. Root, silence, maybe a suspension and slow debuff. If silence lands, then the other side is toast.
>.< daggers. Got two shotted last week by one, and I have 5900 hp at the moment buffed, bypassed my cp.

I play my OL as a support role, so I am mainly doing sleeping and cp heals with an occasional heart. The CP heals can save a party in group pvp :) it is just alliance based, so have a good group of people to hang with. Remember when fighting if you are targeted by a physical damage guy flick on that soul guard and skyrocked your pdef. You want to stay alive as long as possible so you can keep the others alive and allow them to do their damage.

But that is just the way I play it. Some OL's go in with steal essence blazing, and go for the quick kills before they drain all their mp, short battles.
Sounds like I'll have to stay on my guard vs daggers then, very good to know.

So looks like I'll probably initiate a pvp fight in a group situation staying with my party for cp heals and heart while moving forward with the initial rush in hopes of landing hold/sleep/silence seal on the opposing group, with my hp drain being my bread and butter dd spell. (which I love! 80% or so return on damage is just sweet)

From what I've read I'm going to need to aim for an acumen weapon past B grade for these kind've situations to maximize my cast speed for the slower seals like hold and I'm assuming silence and suspension as well. I'm looking at getting a SoV with acumen at B grade and enchanting it to +3 or 4 to hold me over til A grade. At that point, without a blunt weapon, is there any need to train up the hammer stun? I haven't looked into any A grade blunts yet, so I'm not sure if there are any with a caster SA that would be a viable alternative to say a SoM.

:p full of questions tonight I suppose. Thankyou both for sharing your input so far, its been really helpful :)
A couple of things to remember. Once the other side flags, your sleep and debuffs start to work. Sleep is increadable and so is silence and root, when they land.
Some OL get a health blunt for PvP. I, personally, never had any luck with my stun landing at all. I hear some do have good luck with it landing. Go Figure.

If the other side is good, they will go for you and the healer in your group first. The bows usually assist one of the nukers and pow-pow-pow.

Acumen is good, especially if you add the right set of robes (I am using DC in A grade). Makes you wicked fast, for an OL. Their nukers will be faster always.

Keep the CP heals going, hit your debuffs once or twice but not more. If the fight lasts any time at all, you will need all the mana you have since your CP and Heart tears up your mana.

If you can root the archers, your tank / dd will take care of that. Your sleep can turn the tide, but if they have the right set of armor, it won't land. Need to learn which debuff works on which PvP setup. Root, silence, and Suspend really do help a lot.

I haven't looked into any A grade blunts yet, so I'm not sure if there are any with a caster SA that would be a viable alternative to say a SoM.

There are A and B also, I think mage blunts with acumen.
Also remember that there is no class that can perform their skills without having mana points . Overlords are the only class that can reduse significally mana from a group (a skill called seal of gloom )
Stun can be very handy, especially on low CON such as elves and DE
