Who would be interested in a MMORPG like l2 that would continually upgrade existing world as new technology was developed instead of starting anew like eq1,eq2,l1,l2,l3...etc. Seems to me rather pointless exping in a painful grind when l3 is on the table. I know alot will say 'has to be that way' but eq did alot of technology upgrades while maintaining the same eq game, world, toons, etc. EQ2 could have been an upgrade instead of a new game. Would you rather start new or upgrade your existing toon, virtual world,etc?
If you are getting at that they should just upgrade L2 to like L3, then no! L2 is great and all, but it has TOO MANY problems especially with cheating.
I would rather play a new game, with a bunch of others that are new, with a brand new fresh start! Yes it would be painful to see my L2 character be left behind, but I would start fresh hoping for the best and a great fair game!

Actually, i think he has a point. Unless L3 is radically different Why not just do something like eve and upgrade the engine.
As far as fresh start. Sure, if NC did something that was going to insure an even playing field then of course I would say "cool".
But as we can see from Franz, the same issues are there.
People were saying "lets make franz different", I wanted a new server for a fresh start and now we have it".
But the reality was that it is the same as other servers.
People are harder to change then games.
I thought this same thing. L3 will come out and then I will have to make a choice. I know for a fact a lot of people will go and try L3. And since I'm a bit of a graphics [censored], unless they do something horrible like implement EQ2's god awful clay character graphics, I'll probably be tempted.
But to stay? Well, I don't know. The game play will have to be extremely different OR offer something more. Otherwise I'm just grinding with better graphics.
But I guarantee that if people can get away with what they do in L2 they will. Fresh start or no. Then we'll start seeing the posts of how this could have been different and NC didn't learn their lesson, etc.

I agree that the cheating problems in l2 will also be a prob in l3. if their is a way to exploit the game people will find it. the only true way to detect and stop bots is to have a deligent in game gm making rounds and banning bots all the time. I dont think l3 will fix any cheating issues but this is more of a post about upgrading our existing engine instead of starting a new game. lol eve is still far from a finished game anyway. there are still things that were suppose to be in launch that are not in. also it's terribly unbalanced in just about every aspect.
I agree with all your points, but that isn't exactly what I was saying.
Yes if L3 is just gonna be another L2 with and updated engine, then yes, scrap L3 and just upgrade L2 with the new engine.
And yes, L3 will be exploitable, but there is a way to stop cheaters, and it is as simple as making the game benefit someone who actually plays it instead of cheats at it. You can try to ban cheaters, but the only sure fire way to keep them out it just to discourage it. For example, if someone bots, then they are insane because they are missing out on GREAT, EXCITING, FUN, NON-REPETITIVE play! L2 spawns cheaters because it gets boring FAST, and it is very LONG BORING! So people bot so they can have a life and experience the 'fun' aspects of the game, or they ebay so they don't have to shove bamboo under their fingernails spending 2-3 hours trying to pull together mats from your clannies and your warehouse just to fail a craft...
By a "fresh start" I meant a actual fresh start. Not the same thing but "starting over"... I mean everything is new, and great. The world is different, the quests are useful, the storyline is engaging, there will be people that actually play it...you know? I want L3 to be a different game, not L2.... Like I said, if it is just like L2, then I will just play L2...
IMO the graphics for L2 are great, the gameplay is a bit sub par... Making another "L2" with "better graphics" isn't what is going to draw in players, and I am pretty sure NCsoft finally figured that out.
If L2 didn't feel like such a "job" then we wouldn't care about leaving our characters behind. But we do because we put tons of "work" into them, and just don't want to throw all that hard work away for nothing. Plan and simple a game shouldn't be work, it should be fun. It shouldn't be 95% work and hardship to get 5% fun... Yeah, it creates an addicting game, but eventually people get tired of working and go on vacation and play a bit...
If you could keep your char from L2 to L3 that would be a big problem. Well, not for you of course, but for all the new starters. Who would like to start a new game when others already have years in advance...
So, they will for sure make L3 a start from scratch for everyone...
I agree that the l2 grind gets boring fast. I guess I have been playing since c1 and pvp was ongoing all the way through so it was not as boring. But any new players will have to do alot foot work to get to a lvl where they can pvp. I played WOW and loved the tradeskills but the pvp suxed. Making the game more interesting with better quests and tradeskills would be great idea and I hope l3 does this. I think any game that is hardcore pvp will have cheaters so I dont think interesting game play will deter the pvpers from botting. I dont see any way to prevent the botting other than diligent monitoring and banning. I do have to say that the new engine for l3 is awesome in Gears of War. Just hate putting so much into one toon only to abandon it when the newer version is in development.

Yesh, buy I think it will deter the PvEers. L2 is a game where there is barely any content between levels that can take hours and hours of the same ol' thing. You can bot to PvP by hitting level cap to pwn everything. Or you can bot because you just don't have 20 hours to make one level, to get some nice gear and maybe your dream is to kill antharas... Or you are just tired of the high lvl pvp botted players always killing you when you try to party and kill mobs or something.
believe me though, if L2 had dynamic quests people would choose that than boring grind, especially if the dynamic quest was engaging and rewarded the completion of it with a reward larger than grinding for the same amount of time... Human interaction should be awarded, and this includes human interaction with the game client itself...
dude, cheaters are in very mmorpgs. if you dont like cheaters, go play SP game.
Very well said, cheaters are in everygame no matter how advanced they get, you can upgrade a Game guard in L2 or Vac secure a Counter-strike server (thats how abraod cheating goes) people will make hacks to get passed that. You cant beat a hacker at his own game so if you dont like cheaters then dont play games. end of discussion. now for L2 and L3 i would rather just have Lineage 2 stay instead of Lineage 3 because ye Lineage 3 would be cool and all but just the fact that there is gonna be hacking and farming and scamming in that wont make a difference and i would say i personally am very satisfied with L2 oo cant wait for the interlude but i mean Nc soft and the L2 team will just keep upgrading i would rather have upgrades than a new game.

what happend to the good old days when their was no Hero and the layout looked much better and BSOE wasnt spammed and your name flashed red ^^ i loved those days. yes the game has gone down and hes become a little boring IMO but if the L2 team can change that i would rate Lineage 2 the best couse i really hate it when ppl use BSOE and call us noobs for dying im like ok.... (and when mages werent soooooo over powered its too crazy since C4 came out mages got really over powered)

if all the ppl i play with in L2 had gone to WoW, i would have quit l2 at once and just uninstalled the game cause i dont play it cause its good... i play cause of friends, nothing else
