Polearm or Blunt

I have a level 20 dwarf that will be turning Scavenger soon enough, and i plan on keeping him in the level 21-24 range for awhile.

Unbuffed with no weapon enhancements....... Using a Brigandine Tunic set. Should he use a D grade polearm or blunt?

How does the critical rate and accuracy compare between the two?
ouch
thats a tough one man
the general rule is only have a pole if you are guaranteed to get aoe parties
about the only weapon more gimp for solo than a blunt is a pole, so if you do choose to solo you better get a blunt (more likely duels or a 2 hander)
A sword or a two hander isn't an option, as i'm only going with weapons that i have a mastery for.
/agree
As a high level Warsmith, a polearm is only going to benefit you if you either a) get VR regularly or b) have a dedicated healer.

And by dedicated, I mean someone who knows how to play their class. A healer with little experience in AOE groups will get you killed just as surely as doing AOE without VR.

So..

If you solo, then a blunt.
If you party, then a pole.

And btw, at that low of a level, you would actually be better off using a sword or dagger, as they crit more, and since you don't have nearly the number of masteries you will have later, it will make a difference. At higher levels you will want a blunt over a sword, and a polearm over either if you get groups.

You know..... What i was first thinking of doing was to give my dwarf a top set of D grade fists, as i'm going to keep him under 24. I just thought that a pole or blunt would be better as he would have masteries for them.
Dont take pole, you wount get aoe spoil untill 28, and regular spoil is no good with multiple mobs.
By the way, why would you be bufflles? Dont all toons before 25 have the newbie buffs now?
In that case, go for something with good attack speed and crit rate. Swords have the best balance, while daggers crit a lot more, but you miss a lot more. Just remember, blunts don't hardly crit, tho they rarely miss also.

When i get him settled down in my perfect spot.... He won't be seeing any towns for the rest of his life.... :)
i leveled a scavi to 30 recently and used a blunt. I like the fact that he has some skills for the weapon and that it lands.
At least up to 30 I have never even come close in the usual places to getting him in over his head (also brig with elven jewels--no brig helm though).

Originally i leveled my ws with a +7 glaive cause that's what my clan had to loan to me. It worked fine but the misses (when solo) can get a bit frustrating.

My 2 cents say 'bonebreaker' +3 and shield.
Since I have done the same with my scavenger, let me tell you what I did.
-Begin with a blunt or a 2 hand-sword. Level to 24 outside catacombs.
-Get the most important skills you can afford ( boost HP, vital force, polearm masteries). Delevel to 21.
-Exchange your blunt with a polearm in blacksmith of mammon
-Buy a no grade blunt to throw a stun if you need
-Go hunt in necropolis. No need for out of party buffers or such. Regen rate is amazing. Less than a min to sit after 3-4 mobs pull.
Repeat as many times you need. Can't really tell you for levels above 30 because I have never been there (and won't be for a while). Below 30 works for me.
Solo RB's. (Seriously)

A sword or a two hander isn't an option, as i'm only going with weapons that i have a mastery for.

Why?? At level 20 your masteries are of little benefit. Why do you think D grade farmer dwarves often use dual 107s? They want the patk.

I was using B grade weapons on my WS until about 65. My +4 tsurugi*samurai provided higher equiped patk vs my +3 AoBA. I am not even counting the better crit rate, just the patk as equiped. The blunt masteries did not make up for the higher patk of duals, even on a level 60+ dwarf.

From what I understand, you expect to spent several years with this character in D grade. Get top blunt, polearm, duals and bow. Learn how to hotbar/macro the switch of weapons. If you are unbuffed and solo, use the blunt. With a healer, use the duals or polearm, depending on the number of mobs you are fighting. For raids use the bow. You will do more damage, and be out of range of the bosses AoE attacks. You probably wont pull enough agro to be attacked.
get a blunt weopon first...its best....brigadeins and a sheild for d grade..as you progress keep an eye out for a polearm...which you'll need to.
but definately a tarbar brig gear will get you goin.
my advice is when you get a polearm...get an inexpensive one (d grade) and upgrade it at mammon as you progress through the catacomb stages of your player.
the pole arm is great for raid bossess (control element)
and is great for running trains.
but your going to solo every now and again and your going to want a blunt.

A great AoE poling setup up to at least level 60 is to have a Dwarf, Orc Raider/Destroyer, or Human Warrior/Warlord as the poling DD and an SE or WC with VR as the healer. It is not necessary to have more than one polearm. In fact, one poler can keep 3 catacomb rooms cleared, so I would think that with more than one poler you would be starved for mobs. The key is to get VR, to use Haste2 potions, and have the top polearm as enchanted as you can afford and top heavy armor.

Well since the intended range is between 21-24 a blunt, aoe spoil doesnt come until 28 and using a pole is only sensible for either fast exping or aoespoiling, lol, the difference between those two weapons arent all that big, not in general and even less as early as earily dgrade's... blunt+ brigshield to that brig setup ftw
Whats your thoughts with a blunt vers top D grade fists?
i have a warlord 50 but i really don't have the place in necro cata bots+players = rooms full what do i do ?

Whats your thoughts with a blunt vers top D grade fists?

go with the blunt...a tarbar...sure d grade fists look cool, but honestly, make an orc monk if you want to do that, or subclass as one.
dwarves are a blunt polearm class, get the basics...then tweak the personal play style.

Well i wouldnt really know about that, i've never used a fist on my dwarf so i dont know how it affects them :/ well thats not true.. i used punching gloves at lvl 7 for a lvl lol but i dont think that counts ;)

**edit** punching gloves =spiked glove, just remembered it, lol

Outside of the southern Oren gates are some groupmobs you could try, but they might be mid 50's not sure.. if thats the case go to Enchanted Valley and round up 2-3 mobs :) they're not as high HP mobs as a cat but they're still pretty good to use

LMAO... :)

I have a level 36 orc monk... I'm just wondering how my dwarf would do with a tarbar vers top D grade fists.
Doesn't it depend on the active skills you can use with each
weapon? I don't know what skills a dwarf gets.
The dwarf doesn't get any active weapon skills pre20 and after 20 they only get a stun skill for blunt and a wild sweep skill for polearm thats it.
the masterys you recieve for blunt weapon, at that level add a little dammage and a slightly better chance to hit (blunts hit most of the time anyway.
But they rarely crit ever and that is where alot of damage can be done quickly i would rather crit more than have a slightly higher p.att

at a guess you will be better off with fists, you will hit the monsters more times/faster so you are more likly to disrupt spells etc and the only skill you will miss is stun, but if your spoiling stun is more oftern than not a waste of mp

If you solo, then a blunt.
If you party, then a pole.

....... im not even gonna comment on this one. u get angry dots that think ur stupid. ....................

im pretty sure you dont have much time to group and grind. then theres really no point of polearms. ur going to find a party for a day, and then the next time you log in to find the same people, most likely the lvl gap is going to be big.

u could solo with a polearm but its slow and less accurate than a blunt (not that it makes a big difference). if u can only go for one, go blunt. skill wise, stun > wild sweep.
