I recently ran out of the newbie soulshots and level 18. Bought 1k soulshot for 8k adena. That 1k lasted me less than 1/3rd of a level.
Is this normal? Am I going to be spending 30k+ per level on soulshots alone? I would hate to see the price increase when i get into grade D.. I must be doing something wrong.
well i spend about 6-8 million adena a day on SS
that equates to about 3-400 million per lvl i could prolly earn that back just from normal hunting but i doubt thats possible for lower lvls
your options are:
dont use ss, unbeleavable im sure but i didnt use a single ss until 40+ and didnt have them on full auto spam until lvl 57
find a source for adena, lots of ways out there to make money but spamming ss and killing mobs is not one of them
At lower lvl's yes i agree its bit tough. Only advice i can offer is, do some quests. Not sure what class u are, but i was making enuff adena to cover shots and some left over. Next thing is dont sell "Mats" to the shop Ie Animal bones,varnish etc as players use them to craft with. Varnish on Kain is 1.2-2k atm its easy money.
Find a clan that needs your clan points and get armor and shots in exchange :D
Best option for a newbie in C5, I think. Sure, it's like prostituting yourself, but if you choose a good clan, you will get help with equipment and buffs, and maybe even make some friends. Who knows, maybe you stay in that clan even after academy (many clans only choose academy members who are seriously interested in staying in the clan anyway).
If your still no grade there is quests now that you an run and get a ton of SS. As far as d grade goes make some friends with dorfs and craft them your self. If you get a low d grade full drop crush it and get the crystals and make your own shots. That is what i do. I never jsut buy shots. SS get worse when your a nuker and use use BspsA... :( i never have adena.

sps as a nuker actually gets cheaper as you lvl (after c grade) at the same time as you go up in lvls you continue to 2 hit mobs for 1k then 2k then 3k
as a melee it will take more hits to kill a mob, they will do more damage to you and shots will be more expensive
a nuker can easily make a 1 or 2 mil profit a day while spamming shots but if you are a melee and dont have another way to make adena you either go broke or go to uncle ige
i suggest you take this time to think about maney makeing schemes while you still have a chance
Yep - dont use shots. Im lvl 54 and I still dont use them - doing just fine. Just gotta find the right place where to lvl :)
Yup, that's true. Find mobs that are easy to kill withou shots. You might have to go blue and green mobs but as long as there is little downtime you will be able keep going.
Also, as you get higher in lvl you start making a profit while still using shots. I spend abou 680 adena per kill (two shots) but get an adena drop of 1,200+ (higher if I were to go to the forest of the dead, up to 3,000 or so at times) but that is as a mage (spirit shots).
Or, if you are hunting in an area with a quest (The Southern part of the wastes or ruins of despair or anguish) you can offset your money usage with the money you get on those quests.
And remember, it's easier to level now than when the game first started. But no one ever said it was "easy" to lvl in L2 as compared to other games.
What race are you? I've done all the quests for human noobs and almost off for elves, and you should get enough SS to last you well past 20 if you do the quests that give newbie ss/sps.

Because of speed and we DO NOT 2 shot mobs anymore. Onless we hit specific certain mobs, which is very dificult to find, compared to lets say a SH that can 2 shot more stuff since he/she hits harder then us.
But i will agree that melee cost is higher prolly then nukers yes.... But the OP wasnt asking about that.
the trick at high lvls is to craft them using your own crafter if possible. and at lower lvls, maybe not have them on auto-spam n doing more quests to get money/shots in quicker.
923 is a censored expression in game (if you type it in chat, you will get the "-_-" instead of the 923). Some people say that this number is censored because in Korea it stands for some illegal organization, but since nobody knows exactly, it has become a stand-in for "something unbelievably bad, disgusting and evil". Something so vile that if you would actually write the correct English word on this board, the moderators would instantly ban you (and then come to your place and beat you up). So, instead of cursing like a drunken sailor stepping into a heap of dog poo, you say "923!" :)
Shots are an addictive luxury, if you get used to using them then it seems like you are levelling slowly without them. So it is best to not get used to using them.
You can level up without shots. If you use shots, they are expensive. However, there are several ways to decrease the cost of shots.
1. Join a clan
2. Make friends with an artisal/Warsmith. Duo with them, help them level faster and they help you with cheaper shots, which helps them level faster.
3. Use craft shops to craft your own, getting crystals from unneeded items that you get as drops or get crafted in the shops. For example, all those Tiger's Eye Earring mats from NoS, craft and crush the earrings and use the crystals to make shots at shops, much cheaper than buying.
4. Make a dwarf. This is my recommendation. Level him to 20 and craft your own shots, use the dwarf to craft things and crush things for the crystals. Now you are getting the shots for almost nothing.
4 1/2. Well, now that you have an artisan, make a spoiler to keep the artisan supplied with things to craft and crush. As you main levels into C and B grade, keep the dwarf pair levelling up also (tho more slowly) so that you can keep crafting your shots so that you get nearly free shots all the way through the game. Not only will you save buckets of money on the way, your dwarf duo will turn a sizable profit on other crafts (and selling shots to those too lazy to make a dwarf) and perhaps help generate the gear/weapons for your main.
Edit: PS related to 923. You cannot say it, but you can toss 923 adena on the ground in front of someone.
I am a dark fighter, on the Hindemith server. I have been in the Buccaneers guild since level 16.
I decided to try leveling without shots. Isn't as bad as I thought it would be, I just have to take my time to rest in-between fights. I am level 19 now, almost level 20. I think I will go for pallus knight. Want to get to BD.
At lvl18 you can safely do the Dwarven Kinship quest for
22k adena and do the Pet quest, see Martin in Gludin. You
can sell the wolf collar, amount depends on your server. On
Erica I have sold several for around 200k each and getting them
helped me level up and buy better weapons. Maybe I was lucky.
I have always used SS and DSS and been able to accumulate
adena. The guy who turned me on to this game said SS is in
the game for a reason. Yes I would have more money if I never
bought them, but I think SS helps you advance in the game.
On a trip to Giran recently I stopped at the corned by Death
Pass to kill some Amber Basilisk's & Orcs up on the hill there.
Well I forgot to turn on my DSS (not the 1st time either) and
it took forever to kill it. Continued on to an Orc Archer, got him
but my HP was way down, then I realized what was wrong.
These mobs are light yellow/yellow to me = good XP and adena
drops. Don't use SS on blue mobs, mobs weaker than you.

there are 2 ways to level in the game...as many have said before...
1) With SS - you'll be poorer than alot of people (starting off) but you'll eventually learn the tricks of the trade ( i was lvl 68 before i had more than 2mil on me) but you'll level fast (some say too fast if you're new to the game)
2) Without SS - you have a ton of cash, take longer to get to the top, but when you're there you can buy all you equipment stright up,
When this game first started, there was no such thing as Free SS or Free buffs for newbies, i would kill with outss, and with the crapiest gear in game, and it was alot harder to make money back then.
Just find a good quest, one that pays out well and is repeatable. I did the spore quest, easy money.
Take your time, and now that you're in a clan...it's going to be alot more fun

First, ask them for some NG shots. They should be able to provide some easily. Second, have them get you into academy, ASAP, and provide you with clan oath armor. Next, once you do your class change, you should be able to get a free D weapon with newbie benefits.

Hm, my SpellSinger must've missed the memo.
I'm still 2 shotting mobs. The mobs drop more adena then I use on shot.
What does speed have to do with not being able to 2-shot mobs, out of curiosity?
As nameless already said, and as I and a some others have done, try to go without using any shots through level 45, switching to using shots to take out half the mobs hp from 45 to 55, and then using shots for every hit/spell after that. And I would say between the levels 55 and 57, using shots all the time becomes a necessity.
But if you are going to use shots all the time from level 18 on, you are going to have to use the manor system to offset the cost of using shots, but only buy seeds when the reward is a good material such as iron or bone.
Another good idea, is to find someone else your level who wouldn't mind teaming up with you, w/o using shots. I did that quite a bit. I would usually find a healer/buffer that wanted to level up, but try to make some adena at the same time. Worked out great.
About the manor system...keep in mind that when you seed a mob, it will not drop any items. Only adena.

Speaking of tossing adena on the ground... When I first started this game, about a year ago, people used to make cool shapes/designs or spell out messages on the ground with their adena. I always thought it was kind of neat. I take a 6 month break, come back, and no more adena art. :( What ever happened?
I still find adena art from time to time. However, now people tend to GK rather than run from town to town, so the only parts of the world people normally see are towns and hunting areas. The art is normally in out of the way places where the artist can work in peace and where jerks won't pick it up quickly.

Another good idea, is to find someone else your level who wouldn't mind teaming up with you, w/o using shots.
to the op: make sure if you're grouped they know beforehand that you won't be using ss. i remember (back when we had to click every time to use them) people yelling at me for spamming ss. now, if you group and don't use them they'll yell at you. how times change... :)
There is a newbie quest that gives 6000 soulshots for newbies and another quest that gives another 1000 no grade soulshots. I still have 2000 soulshots left at level 23. Those quests are important if you don't want to go bankrupt.
There is a great guide on how to make money fast for a newbie n the "player guides" section in the forum. The guides states how to raise captial from scratch and evetually play the market for big profits. You WILL need lots of adena to support spamming of ss unless u plan to lvl slow.
