sorry if posted and deleted already, I didnt see it so im not trying to repost for the hell of it.
NCsoft, I know this is very touchy to talk about, but I think people would like to know about this to see something is really happening beyond what we can see. Please understand Im not posting to advertise anything, just giving info that I think is a big step to the community.
lol haha. people who play private servers suck anyway.
although that brings us back to the point, NC wouldn't even have this problem if they had more servers with different settings.. like a 20x xp server, or all-out-pvp! (HINT. HINT.)
Usually threads about private servers are removed immediately, but I'm going to make an exception with this thread. All I can say at the moment is that I can't quite discuss this yet, but I will leave the thread up for now. :) I hope to have more to say about this soon.
lol haha. people who play private servers suck anyway.
Agreed.
although that brings us back to the point, NC wouldn't even have this problem if they had more servers with different settings.. like a 20x xp server, or all-out-pvp! (HINT. HINT.)
Disagree. Private servers are about cheating (i.e, not playing by Official Server rules). People are lazy; they'll cheat at anything. I've said it before and I'll say it again: people will cheat at solitaire. It doesn't matter what kind of different flavor of server NCSoft rolls out. I guaren-god-****-tee you that people will cheat on it.
Wow, that's some good news. Too bad it's too late for some of the players to come back ever. I think they PVP hungy ppl who can not wait to lvl up to 80 over 1-2 years legaly ,wont come here ,but some sure will try it out as the trial is open at mmoprg.com
Because we'd laugh when we hear about 1.5x rates? :p
And i read somehwere on another thread about server vs server type wars. something to that effect. Imagine what would happen if a relaxed server were to go up against a normal server. I would think alot of complaining. Seems there would be alot of conflict with adding that war feature and having a relxaed server.
Right on NCSoft. Nail all those private servers. Maybe we will get some more players back. I hope NCSoft takes a couple lessons from WoW. Like server transfers and such. It would be nice to see some things improved. Win-Win situation for both. More enjoyable game for us and more players means more money for NCSoft. Now get to work!

a 20x xp server would kill lineage. because lineage lives from the grind and the amount of time you need to invest to be "good" or powerful in game.
"The page cannot be found." HEHEH Gotta like it! GJ NC Soft.
It is saying that cause a lot of traffic is going there. Either from people who heard about it and want to see for themself, or by the people who play there and want to know what happend.
Try a couple more times and FBI page should come up for that site.
Its about time. I guess NCSoft could finally nail them because not only did they use actual code of theirs, they did it for commercial gain and to clearly compete with the official service. Those factors combined makes it fairly "easy" to shut down.
They also hosted modified client software which might have been what they were nailed on as well, because thats illegal.
ive been looking around the private server source pages where people get all the server files, publish mods tutorials ect and there is a big thread about their community's irc channel when they heard the news. This is copied and pasted directly from their forums.
<Delta> As many people are aware, sometime this morning the l2extreme servers went down
<Delta> the site was then replaced with a forward to the FBI website
<Delta> as of right now, at least 1 L2x staff member is claiming to have gotten a visit from the FBI
<Delta> for information collection
<Delta> as of right now
<Delta> the l2x servers are down
<Delta> proclaimed to have been raided
<Delta> now, i ask all community leaders to please *not* freak out yet
<Delta> until there is more information, just calm and assume it could be fake
<Delta> the staffer that clis to have gotten the visit
<Delta> was also released in a sense
<Delta> he was never charged, but was asked questions and returned
<Delta> with that being siad, though, there are still claims that it could be a fake
<Delta> one of the things giving this
<Delta> is the fact of what's known as the "name servers"
<Delta> these control where the site and such point
<Delta> normally if it was done with the govt, it would have been with a different provider I would think
<Delta> but right now the L2x site is being directed via "ENOM" a well known domain hoster/seller
<Delta> another note is tat the FBI thing wasn't a actual notive
<Delta> notice* like they do on other sites, namely warez sites
<Delta> rather, it was simply a forward to the FBI website in general
<Delta> (13:26:30) -pheox\afk- What is your opinion, do you really think its possible that the American Federals really bust down illegal game servers?
<Delta> i've +N'd because people like eternal are idiots
<Delta> anyways, to answer that
<Delta> L2x had an iffy past
<Delta> due to there being a lot of claims
<Delta> taht they were involved in the original release of the l2 C1 files
<Delta> I've been informed by 'Danny' just now
<Delta> that there are inconsistent layout's
<Delta> between the L2x FBI site
<Delta> and the actual FBI one
<Delta> (13:28:02) -Link0- it should be noted that the eula of l2 clearly states that creating a private server is legal. (joining one is not)
<Delta> if proven true
<Delta> they'd have to take the players to court
<Delta> meaning all server/community owners
<Delta> are 100% safe
<Delta> (13:29:14) -Nebi- If its a prank, be aware that using any gov copyright website is a federal crime.
<Delta> very good point
<Delta> again, as of right now please just calm down
<Delta> i'm trying to work with all the commuites out here
<Delta> to try to get information distro's
<Delta> and everyone helped
<Delta> everyone please take a deep breathe
<Delta> and calm down
<Delta> there's no need to jump to conclusions with this
<Delta> or anything to that affect
<Delta> honestly
<Delta> players shouldn't worry about being fined
<Delta> or getting in trouble
<Delta> matching off Ip's is a dumb job
<Delta> and only done by people like the RIAA
<Delta> inw hich case they have lost every time someone talks of dynamic IP's
<Delta> as for when ervers will come back up
<Delta> i'm still awaiting to hear what's going on with 'shmee'
<Delta> i've not caught wind of any other servers that have taken protective measures for the time being
<Delta> please take this time to not come in here
<Delta> with 'AHAHAOWNED'
<Delta> etc
<Delta> as a name
<Delta> this is simply a inforation location
<Delta> not a place to play "my server is better than yours!"
<Delta> according to reports
<Delta> L2p have taken their servers down for the time ebign
<Delta> till things calm down
<Delta> l2r might be the same, can you confirm howard
<Delta> sigh
<Dilt> Calm it with the nicks, people.
<Delta> That's what's going to happen if people continue with the names.
<Delta> the channel won't go -m
<Delta> simply due to the flood that would happen
<Dilt> siteISaFAKE: Thank you for your opinion. But seriously.
<Dilt> Quit goofing with the nicks people.
<Delta> OK
<Delta> confirmed that L2r is down by choice
<Delta> all files are safe, etc
<Delta> so please don't bombard them
<Delta> howard and his team will work on things as best as they can
<Delta> so please don't PM spam them or bother them
<Delta> eternal, you [censored] twit
<Delta> i'm gonna deball you in three seconds
<Delta> I've talked to Ken from L2p
<Delta> as of right now they've powered off their servers
<Delta> they're waiting on everythign to clear up
<Delta> and from there is up to the L2p admis
<Delta> i'm assuming Ken will work on thigns
<Delta> once we confirm what's going on with L2x and shmee
<Delta> i'm still waiting on information from the l2x admins
<Delta> as to what's going on over there
<Delta> Peter: quit rejoining you dork :P
<Delta> any community leaders are welcoem to pm me
<Delta> for information to be relayed
<Delta> DA stands no chance of being affected by this
<Delta> we work hard to protect and help everyone that we can
<Delta> and we'll work hard for our users and communities
<Delta> Hmm, i dunno if they would transfer it
<Delta> or simply update the DNS records
<Delta> until things propigate
<Delta> The FBI could very well have filed a raid notice
<Delta> and simply be able tow alk into the datacenter
<Delta> and take it
<Delta> i've been informed by the L2x staff now
<Delta> that all players, data, etc
<Delta> is safe
<Delta> your players are there
<Delta> all your donations, etc is all safe
<Delta> L2p is safe
<Delta> as is L2r
<Delta> so you can add that
* Delta changes topic to 'Discussion of the FBI possibly taking over L2x. Other servers (l2p, l2r) have taken down their servers temporarily in the meantime until the panic cools down. No known ETA. All L2x/l2p/l2r data is safe, including characters and donations.'
<Dilt> Yeah, Beat me to it.
<Delta> woot!
<Delta> :P
<Delta> any other communities that have taken action regarding this
<Delta> please let me know
<Delta> and i'll work to help
<Dilt> Just remain calm, everyone.
<Dilt> This will all be cleared up as soon as possible.
<Delta> everyone please
<Delta> do notb
<Delta> not8
<Delta> ...**** 8 key.
<Delta> please do not harras your community leaders
<Dilt> If you want to harass someone, harass me. I can take it. Your community leaders can not.
<Delta> please everyone, let your community leaders work hard to help you
<Delta> please do not pm and contact them asking when things will be fixed
<Delta> please be sure to check the topic with /topic #channelname
<Delta> for the latest information
<Delta> everyone, please
<Delta> calm your self
<Dilt> If you are calm, then you are one with Buddha.
<Dilt> DeltaIsAFishJAJAJAJ: Nice to know.
<Delta> i'm a fish?
<Delta> awesome.
<Delta> everyone remember
<Delta> all information is pending confirming
<Delta> we're working hard to correct things for everyone
<Delta> for a re-cap
<Delta> currently there are claims that L2x has fallen under the hand of the man
<Dilt> Translation: Government has seized L2x's servers.
<Delta> currently l2r has taken their server down willingly for things to calm down
<Delta> currently l2r has taken their server down willingly for things to calm down
<Delta> L2p is supposidly in the same boat, still confirming 110% with Ken
<Delta> please rememeber to let your communities work to confirm and work with all this information
<Delta> please do not pm spam them with questions
<Delta> or be a pest
<Delta> they all ned time to work and get this all good
<Delta> they will update their topics with information as things progress
<Delta> so pelase keep an eye on taht with /topic #channelname
<Dilt> Guys, I will be taking a shower. When I get back, I'll answer your remaining questions in PM.
<Delta> i recommend everyone play a game
<Delta> Ragdoll Avalanche 2 - TheBlueThing.com
<Delta> is a great way to pass time
<Delta> my record is 680 :P
<Delta> i still think that a DMCA would have happened
<Delta> but i guess that's only if NCsoft was enforcing
<Delta> FBI takes [censored], asks questions later
<Delta> hense, no DMCA
<Delta> the DMCA is the digital millenium copyright blah blah blah... law
<Delta> it pretty much allows poeple who own something
<Delta> to file a complaint with the host
<Delta> claiming infringing
<Delta> this then gives the hosted client 24 - 72 hours
<Delta> to comply by removing it
<Delta> after that the host is exptect to solve it
<Delta> running datorrents get's us lots of those
<Delta> i may be random a little
<Delta> i'm currently at work doing this
<Delta> and the boss is on my *** to keep coding :P
<Dilt> Alright guys. PM me if you have a question regarding this L2 FBI issue.
<Dilt> I may not be able to instantly answer, though, considering the amount of PMs I may get.
<Dilt> Serious questions only.
<Delta> trake - i'm taking redemption.
<Dilt> Holy. That's a lot of PMs.
<Dilt> Refrain from PMing unless you actually have a QUESTION. Questions have a ? after them. Statements should be sent to Delta.
<Delta> to answer the questions, i do have a portugese background :P
<Delta> mikko - until i hear it from elsewhere, i dunno
<Delta> it's all up in the air at this point
<Delta> there are things that make it look fake
<Delta> and then thigns that don't
<Delta> it's up in the air enough that all we can do is try to calm the waters
<Delta> for a recap for new comers
<Delta> the l2x servers are currently down, and reports of a FBI raid taking place
<Delta> while not confirmed
<Delta> lat the very least l2revenge, and reports of l2p, have taken their servers offline for the time being
<Delta> to calm the waters
<Delta> reports from both those communities is that all files/characters/etc are safe
<Delta> so there is no need to go crazy
<Delta> there are reports from a L2x developer that there are backups of l2x as well
<Delta> meaning that data is also OK
<Delta> please do not bug the channel ops with questions
<Delta> they will update their topics as they get more data/decisions going on
<Dilt> Delta: I asked them to PM me.
<Dilt> Oh. I thought you meant me.
<Delta> to pass your time, i recommend - Ragdoll Avalanche 2 - TheBlueThing.com

Let's hope those people who are on private servers will finally give up the private server and realize how much time/work they put in got lost and would join us in retail where they wouldn't have to worry about losing their stuff due to server wipes and such.
can't believe the fbi's are wasting their time on sometihng like this when there are hell-a-lot more important issues to deal with. but then again, i'm an idiot so maybe I should keep things to myself... or not. :D

gj NCSoft.
Retail MMOs die too.
On August 25, 2005 it was announced by Turbine CEO Jeff Anderson that the Asheron's Call 2 service would be shut down on December 30, 2005, and no additional content updates were planned. This was a reaction to tepid sales of the Legions expansion pack, which failed to boost the number of subscription past the critical threshold of 35,000. Fans were highly critical of this reaction, blaming lack of sales on a poorly coordinated marketing campaign and an insufficient retail presence. Producer Citan (Eric Heimburg) moved on to the Star Trek Online project, whereas most other team members transferred to the Dungeons & Dragons Online and The Lord of the Rings Online projects at Turbine.
Criticism of Asheron's Call 2 had always been particularly vocal from many Asheron's Call 1 players, who were frustrated by the radical changes in gameplay dynamics and the game world, claiming that AC2 was a sequel in name only. The fact that AC2 would be different from AC1 was stated from the initial releases on it, but many AC1 players were not happy with the sequel and stayed with the original game. This may have been a factor in AC2's disappointing subscription numbers. A major contributor to its failure was likely the fact that the game was initially rated "M" for Mature, unlike most competitors.
A revival petition was created on April 30th 2006 regarding Asheron's Call 2 death for hopes of reviving the MMORPG.
Poorly coordinated marketing campaign...
Insufficient retail presence...
Anything there look familiar to you when you think of NCNA?
There is always a risk, no matter private or retail, of everything you've worked for getting wiped.
can't believe the fbi's are wasting their time on sometihng like this when there are hell-a-lot more important issues to deal with. but then again, i'm an idiot so maybe I should keep things to myself... or not. :D

Not every case law enforcement deals with is TV show worthy. These people were stealing from a legitimate business.

ARE YOU [removed] OUT OF YOUR MIND???????
LINEAGE 2 IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!!!!
hell yea i'm out of my mind!!! but my bad dude, forgot how important this issue can be important for some people. That was just my personal view, please do not take the words out of content... i don't feel like dealing with admins, too much work.
The FBI handles a lot of things! They come into play when a federal crime takes place.... the FBI is huge and is in every state in the union. They are supposed to handle this, and I am glad something is being done.....
I'm rather sorry to say this though NCSoft should have been doing this 2 years ago not now. Just like all the mass bannings they been doing lately. They banned one of my accounts and it wasn't even justified. Why did they do this 2 years ago before all this stuff got out of control, botting, private servers and so on that ruined the game back then for a lot of us. Shoot I can't even get their customer support to answer my tickets.

What makes you think they weren't? Do you think they just called up the FBI and said "There's a private server out there at this address." and then it was shut down the next day? I'm guessing this was many many months in the making.
Usually threads about private servers are removed immediately, but I'm going to make an exception with this thread. All I can say at the moment is that I can't quite discuss this yet, but I will leave the thread up for now. :) I hope to have more to say about this soon.
it seems that it is a hoax or a late/soon April Fool (THAT SMEEEE AND BOTGOD GUY WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET AWAY WITH THE DONATED MONEY) but with mystril reply I'm confident that it is true :)
and LOL that many people "donate" hundred/thousands of dollars on those server and it get wiped, lol
Let's hope those people who are on private servers will finally give up the private server and realize how much time/work they put in got lost and would join us in retail where they wouldn't have to worry about losing their stuff due to server wipes and such.
gj NCSoft.
YEAH! And start loing their stuff due to server glitches, scams and server crashes!
As a reminder to everyone, even though this thread is here, message board rules still apply:
User Agreement Violations.
Any post or thread in which a player admits to violating the User Agreement, encourages others to violate the User Agreement, or violates the User Agreement itself will be removed and the message board account will be banned without warning. Please be aware that action can also be taken against the game account.
Do not link to or name private servers here on the official message board. Thank you!
much <3.
hopefully this will bring lot's of new players here.
and about that server transfer thing. would be great.
i started on Siegehardt a while ago and just now realized there are european servers <.<
ain't too fun to be the only one online on the clan list just because i play on siegehardt and live in sweden :o

Although it would be nice to have their money I don't think we want those players coming here. They would have a much higher propensity to bot and cheat in other ways and we have enough of those as it is. Also server transfer would open up more exploits by allowing people to transfer ill gotten loot and charactors across the entire L2 domain.
1. You banned MOST botters.
2. No drop policy applied.
3. I read forums and feel community reviving.
4. Thx^^
P.S.: I re-rolled on Hindemith, the last server which personality says: "helpful players, many strong alliances" not just PK/PvP, but some more than +16 weapons at any cost. Thx.
Hahahaha. I came from private servers a week ago, and now this happens. How funny. It's also funny that everyone on retail thinks the priv people are botters when the priv server people think the same about the retail people. Nobody's innocent.
And no, actually, I'd say don't expect them... or at least don't expect a significant fraction of how many people played on the servers that closed (two and counting now) to come to retail. The players wanted to have their cake and eat it, too, by not paying for L2, and they got owned. They can't make friends with the GMs for free handouts here. ;)
Hey folks, This was sent to me by a friend of mine on IRC about an hour ago.
Message begins:
Hi there.
I'd like to start off by thanking Denyi for posting this, as it's beyond my capability at the moment. So please don't blame him for this.
A little background on myself to start off.
I started the game back in prelude. About a month or so before things went live.
I made a DE mage, and dealt with DE town back when it was packed with players and other sorts. This was on the Lionna server.
I progressed very slowly, like a lot of people, not really understanding entirely what I needed to do.
Gear was hard to come by in those days.
I made her an oracle, though it was hard leveling her up going the mage route.
I later made a SH, and was finding it somewhat easier.
I also made a dwarf later on, for helping gathering mats and teaming up with a friend of mine who went Elven oracle.
I could regale you with stories of the early days, but that's not why I'm here. Though I did follow elliebelly's thread ON those early days as it progressed.
I do remember the first time I dealt with a farmer. Someone who asked me to team with them, and then asked me for money for doing so, and explaining why.
I remember being shocked and not wanting anything more to do with that person ever again, but I kept an eye on them.
As I progressed, the center of commerce shifted from gludio to giran.
I also began to note when people were farming, and when some were useing bots. One guy set up his assassin just outside of gludin, and said he was setting up his bot program, just to farm langic lizardmen warriors. Much to the dismay of any orc who needed them for thier quest.
Back in that day, farmers actually manned the charas, and actual bots weren't that great.
But things evolved. Farmers were getting worse and worse, and so was the botting.
I paid for the game when it shifted to retail, and for a few short days, the server was very quiet. After 3 days, things were just as bad, and slowly went from bad to worse.
I paid for the first month via the online store, and then the next 2 via a card.
But I could see the writeing on the wall, and I could see how the game was going.
I let my account lapse, and left. I left a few things with some friends to pay them back, but kept a some basic items on me so if I ever decided to return, I'd at least have a way of continueing.
Since then I've followed the game through the boards here, on l2orp, and occasionally Blah.
I tried out those private servers, but many of them were buggy beyond belief.
Some fixes worked out some of the bugs, but they've allways been a work in progress at best.
I know that private servers are not to be mentioned normally, but I bring this up because of something I've seen from them.
Private servers CAN stop bot programs.
They have the capability within to allow bots or not allow them.
Now, if private servers, that are set up and developed by people in thier spare time, and are not paid for it, are able to ID and stop bot programs from even logging in, WHY in gods name does retail allow such a thing?
Fact of the matter is, when I see the posts of 'we ban xxxx number of accounts this period', that means nothing.
Here's a clue:
GMs should NOT be dealing with botters.
GMs should be there to guide and entertain. NOT police the server.
Players should not be dealing with botters.
Players are there to play the game, and deal with other players.
If they have to fight for a room, they should fight with other players. NOT botters.
DEVELOPERS should be dealing with botters.
They should make the game so it cannot be compatable with ANY bot program
and if a bot program IS compatable? Then they should MAKE it uncompatable.
So one has to ask, if they haven't stopped it, WHY haven't they stopped it?
My only recourse in this train of thought is the developers and higher ups want the continued revenue from remade bot accounts, and to give the players something to strive against. Also to help boost the player count.
The conspiricy theroists who say NCsoft was getting the money from these botters and farmers is absurd. But NCsoft's actions, or more specificly, inactions in dealing with the botting programs at the source tells a story of a different nature.
All this being said, I still have hope for this game. It is still among one of the most beautiful games out there, and even with the mind numbing grind, which I belive should be seriously looked at professionally to see if how they're doing things is truely benificial to the game, I think this game is still one of the best out there.
I would like to see changes. I would like to see posts someday, of people saying that they see only farmers, but not actual bots. You're never going to stop people from selling thier in game money for out of game cash. But you can make them work for it.
I'd like to see more posts on GMs showing up, talking to players, or doing actual live server events. I would like to see more actual events!
I would like to see stabby back in game, but... that's probably not something we can discuss.
I still have a timecard I got that I never used. I would like to see a reason to use it. Though I'm not sure how well that'll work with my account, as accounts were changed. But... I'm sure we can manage.
I can share my impressions from the last half month I got back :)
Yes I still see some groups botting in starter villages, but I feel they're much under pressure :)
They don't steal kills, there's always a person to guide them! (this makes me feel not that irritated, even I feel some simpathy lol)
I tried to make a macro for my dorfy to spoil the same mob (as I reroll and have 0 adena and 0 friends so far - gotta fight for my Top NG) :P
The macro was:
/target <MOB>
/Spoil
The surprise was: the target was NOT targeting the closest mob! So I had to fix target and run to the closest one and generally the macros helps only if you can't see a mob arround :)
I believe this is part of the so called developers'-anti-bot part of the Game! And I believe there are much more done.
I believe things are going better! Now most of you/us have reached high levels, been in every place in this world, slayed World bosses, etc, etc, and I feel a new experience growing at least in myself: I want to re-roll with all the KNOWLEDGE I have for I play only since C3 not C1 :) ... and I'm not in a hurry. I move slow, step by step and enjoy again and again every bit of the game :) I know I can do it, I've done it - and will do it again :P
I know that private servers are not to be mentioned normally, but I bring this up because of something I've seen from them.

Now, if private servers, that are set up and developed by people in thier spare time, and are not paid for it, are able to ID and stop bot programs from even logging in, WHY in gods name does retail allow such a thing?
<snip>
DEVELOPERS should be dealing with botters.
They should make the game so it cannot be compatable with ANY bot program
and if a bot program IS compatable? Then they should MAKE it uncompatable.
The private servers can stop bots BECAUSE they are private. The bot programs make a lot of money and their developers are more than willing to constantly adapt their programs to get by any checks the real servers do, to keep the dollars flowing.
Effectively -- private server uses X to catch bots. Bot developers don't give a ****, so X remains successful for a long time. Real server uses X to catch bots. Bot developers have modifications to their program in a few days that counteract X, and X can no longer be used to catch bots. In fact as any anti-cheat code will be deployed to Korea first, chances are it'll be broken before it even gets to our servers, like GameGuard was.
There's no way to possibly win for the developers -- there's not a single mechanism that's even theoretically possible to permanently solve the problem. At best you can engage in an arms race, where each side needs to exert a lot of effort to keep ahead of the other. It's costly, though -- you're spending an endless amount of manpower on a problem that will never stay solved; this inevitably takes manpower away from the work on making new content.

Love, Tashira from Lionna.
Message ends.
From what you said sir, i can judge you've never run a Counter-Strike server and you've never tried to stop the wall-****, aimbot users on it ^^ Let me tell you how it goes :
Day 1 : Installing anti-cheat software 1.0 Stops aimbot 1.0
Day 2 : Aimbot 1.1 version released
Day 3 : Installing anti-cheat software 1.1 Stops aimbot 1.1
Day 4 : Aimbot 1.2 version released
I think you can see what im trying to say. And yes that would slow and lower the amount of non-legit players ( if same tactic is applied to NCSofts L2 servers ), but to say you can get rid of them completly is something very unrealistic and hardly achievable. As long as there is profit in it, you can be sure automated -_-'s will do their best to stick around.
The fact that people are willing to pay money to play on a buggy private server which doesn't have the latest and best L2 features and can be closed on a whim just blows my mind.
Hopefully the people working for this company don't look at this as omgfbipwntsomekids and look at the stunning success of some of these servers and the customers they are losing, which I can guarantee you would throw money at NCsoft if there were options besides grindhell and other things not allowed to be mentioned in forums.

That is infinitely true and a good example, but what bothers me is when you go into a catacomb and see ALL the good rooms taken by 9-man bot groups. All it would take is 3 GMs 30min once a week to visit the catacombs and ban those kinds of blatant botters. You petition them daily and it still takes weeks for them to be removed.
That's like seeing those idiots in CS that spin around at 1000 RPMs then pump out headshots. The admin doesn't spend 14-30 days "investigating" the suspect before banning him.........
I know I'm just complaining... maybe there needs to be more GMs xD
Anyway, LOL DONATORS. Not even a 150 man zerg of +25 armor, jewelry, and weapon users can take down FBI. (Too much pdef or hp or something)

Ok, this is not to start a "bot discussion", so please don't lock it because of this Mistryl, but this needs to be thouroughly pummeled into the ground once and for all.
The reason private servers can somewhat stop bots is:
1. Bot programs are made to defeat the protections and work with the protocols of the real game, not private servers, they have no incentives to develop methods to defeat dozens of different custom scripts.
2. Private servers are much smaller, so its easier to police.
3. Because its free and private, the "GM"'s can be very liberal with whom they ban.
There's nothing NCSoft can use from private servers against bots.
All it would take is 3 GMs 30min once a week to visit the catacombs and ban those kinds of blatant botters.
Seeing how fast they get back up - no.
No, that's not all it would take. It would take constant surveillance on all servers, and more importantly, having a train banned does not hurt bots all that much.
Btw only rich people play on official server or rich kids
You don't have to rich to be good on retail.
You don't have to donate to be good on a private server.
You don't have to be ignorant and claim everyone ebays/donates just because you're awful at L2
*PS FBI is sux lock of movie WTC F... all ppl In FBI
9/11 (i think that's what you're talking about) has nothing to do with taking down private servers...
No, that's not all it would take. It would take constant surveillance on all servers, and more importantly, having a train banned does not hurt bots all that much.
I've never seen a higher level bot train back up in 1 week. Especially since a lot of them are run by the same people. If you consistently ban them how can that not hurt them? And I was only talking about catacombs, not the entire server. I understand it would take more to eradicate bots universally, but I was more just nagging about petition an entire catacomb of BLATANT bot trains and never seeing them banned.
Lower level bot trains are as much - if not more - than a concern than high level ones. After all, you get more areas to go to as an alternative at high levels.
Besides, we want more new real players - and it's never good for a player to come into the village to the sigh of a few bot trains as their first impression.
Just cleaning the 'popular' spots (and catacombs are far from the best or only alternative if you're not using a polearm) alone wouldn't solve the problem at all.

Whereas in L2, it goes like this:
Day 1: GameGuard version 666/Big L2 update stops bot X, Y and Z.
Day 2 to 5: New versions of bots X, Y and Z got released.
Day 6 to 180: Bot time!
Day 1: GameGuard version 666/Big L2 update stops bot X, Y and Z.
Day 2 to 5: New versions of bots X, Y and Z got released.
Day 6 to 180: Bot time!
i don't know why but this only go for na servers .... in korea they have regularly gameguard update while we had the same version for months ....
PS: by now we have the same version again .... it was part of the 'no drop on death'-patch ;)
Day 1: GameGuard version 666/Big L2 update stops bot X, Y and Z.
Day 2 to 5: New versions of bots X, Y and Z got released.
Day 6 to 180: Bot time!
Why do people keep posting crap like this? GameGuard does not, cannot and isn't even designed to stop bots. How on earth can it stop a program on a computer on which it isn't even installed? Jesus.
Btw only rich people play on official server or rich kids
The $30 a month I pay for 2 accounts makes me a rich kid? Pfft..Im 25 years old with kids of my own. My wife and I both work. You ever considered getting a job? Any fast food chain will hire anyone and you could easily afford to play then....
Well gameguard doesn't try to stop any 3rd party software programs. A simple look at your firewall ( given you use one, and if you don't - then better start right away ) will show you when and to where does gameguard connect. Now consider this :
A automated user would have to either run the automation program on a pc without l2/gameguard installed and you can tell the difference between that and a user running the official client with gameguard , or run the automated program with the client wich makes it even easier to detect it trough gameguard. What i am trying to say is they do not want to stop automates with it, it just helps them identify them. I hope it makes it clearer for you :)
On a side note : Anti-cheat software in counter-strike does not stop wallhacks/aimbots/whatever. It just detects their presence ( by running a client side application ) and then server simply kicks/bans them ( however you've setuped it ). So i can bet what gameguard does is similar without the automatic ban feat, instead it just reports any suspicious things you might be running..or server detects that you arent running gameguard at all :)

Day 2 to 5: New versions of bots X, Y and Z got released.
Day 6 to 180: Bot time!
Why do people keep posting crap like this?
Because it's true?
Not the GameGuard part, obviously (this only makes bots more easy to identify, in theory), but the "Big L2 update" part, which you conveniently ignored. :)
Well gameguard doesn't try to stop any 3rd party software programs.
I beg to differ. It stops HotSync (closes it) and it stops Motherboard Monitor from producing accurate temps (my CPU temps always reads 32 F when playing).
It also stops general macro and interface programs, which was actually the single contributer to the rise and popularity of bot programs because alot of people back then used macro programs to automate SS/SpS use, when they stopped working they turned to the only thing that worked, bot programs. And of course once you've taken the leap and learned it anyway, temptations to use it in more bad ways became so much easier.
So yes, it does prevent certain programs from functioning right.
Well gameguard doesn't try to stop any 3rd party software programs.

Well i have to admit i always wondered why my friggin getright always has unfinished downloads >.< Add speedfan to the MBM category also...well duh i guess they're just trying to free some memory for l2 to run ? :p

1 - FBI doesnt redirect to their main site
2 - If FBI shuts any site down , info about crime is provided , even if suspect is sentenced
3 - This might be true , or might not - now no one knows everything except people that are involved

Its probably real. What they've been shut down for is most likely because they were distributing modified client files (needed to run the client to use their server).
Also a very small chance it could be a joke, kinda like what blah has pulled.

2 - If FBI shuts any site down , info about crime is provided , even if suspect is sentenced

I'm sure that if the developers of L2x get brought up on criminal charges and sent to prison you'll see very few differences.
White-collar criminals very rarely see the inside of a prison for a first offense. Most likely, they would spend several years on probation (part of which may be no internet/computer use) and most likely will have any paycheck they ever receive garnished for the balance of their lives to pay fines. And that doesn't even begin to cover the legal fees they are now beginning to incur (guilty or not). Owned indeed.

2 - If FBI shuts any site down , info about crime is provided , even if suspect is sentenced

so dont say that privs are owned :P
so as a joke they used:
701. Official badges, identification cards, other insignia.
709. False advertising or misuse of names to indicate Federal agency.
712. Misuse of names, words, emblems, or insignia.
which are all subject to prosecution under Federal Criminal law.
Why wouldnt he just say we are shutting down cause we feel like it? No one could do anything about that. But instead they put themselves in more trouble by violating 3 sections? That does not add up 1 bit.
one thing i heard about private servers were active GM's (doing it for fun or not) and bot banning that didnt need 6 months to prove it and give it back if the owner agreed to pay fee etc...
takeing action against private servers is a good thing (well all that FBI stuff was a joke or what?), but seeing as NCNA is not realy taking serious action against EULA breaking i find it quite surprising.
i would be actualy curious if NCsoft makes more money than the online market of ingame items, currency or accounts wich they sustain. it's pretty natural to expect people to cheat, or at least try to, but makeing it so easy to do so is bad on NCsoft's behalf. And again, no real efforts, or at least not visible from customer's point of view is bad. How come we, players, can see the infestation with bots, but the server owners can't. Oh wait, we ban some once in a while, but they will just make another accounts, and start all over.
Oh wait, theres 200 dwarves with identical gear, and unreal names, doing same actions in same area, and they all force-log when you attack them (wich is against EULA but seems its not realy bad since none is zapped from the sky after doing it 50 times in a row) but all those are real players who pay their fees just like any other, EULA comes last.
I'm still very ****** at it all. The game is great, but frustrating as hell seeing how the economy is so depending on farmer bot's stocks. etc.
seeing as NCNA is not realy taking serious action against EULA breaking i find it quite surprising.
Over 7 thousand accounts just this week. The last two months have seen our heaviest banning yet, and we're getting better and better at it.
Also, please keep on topic. I know all conversations here inevitably drift back to our robotic visitors, but if the derail continues this thread will go bye bye.

The FBI wouldnt put anything down for this because they are still doin an investigation, if you noticed on the sec site the guy was sentenced, the owners of L2x havent been yet so in turn the FBI isnt goning to relaese any information about why they shut down the site and servers, so in turn it still may be very much real, my information comes from a retired Sheriff also I have several other people in my family and freinds of the family that are either retired Poilce or are still in the force.
till the FBI sentences the owner/s of L2x we wont know anything about what happened.
Personally I think it is real but thats just my opion on the subject, lets just wait to see what comes of it.
the FBI has taken servers in at least the UK before....
probably because they let em...but they have taken stuff from overseas :P so it can happen :P
::FBI Website::
In the United States and its territories, FBI Special Agents may make arrests for any federal offense committed in their presence or when they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed, or is committing, a felony violation of U.S. laws. Concerning arrests on foreign soil, FBI Special Agents generally do not have authority outside the United States except in certain cases where, with the consent of the host country, Congress has granted the FBI extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Long as they are given permission....they can go and shut stuff down in Europe. But places like Russia or countries with more lax laws on copyright infringement, it might be a be harder. Though getting a **** patent in all those countries is a hard as hell...go figure..:P
one thing i heard about private servers were active GM's (doing it for fun or not) and bot banning that didnt need 6 months to prove it and give it back if the owner agreed to pay fee etc...
They don't need to prove bot use before banning because they don't care if their (unpaying) customers leave. The customers paying for unbanning (were they botters or not) is another story, the more such customers exist, the more money for "server bandwidth" private server owners have.
People, don't trust the tales about how good private servers are. In reality, they stink.
ok .. LOL
1 FBI shuts down the site - they inform who is going to be charged, and they change domain server to theirs - neither one happened to l2extreme
2 www.l2extreme.com (http://www.l2extreme.com) has changed several times after this "raid" - FBI doesnt do it
3 i agree that if some1 did it for fun hes just stupid
thing is we will know nothing untill Fbi, nc or l2x owners tell whats going on
They had rackspace in UK, company based in the US, but soon after that the FBI took down EVERYTHING including spain and germany for apparently a "terrorism investigation". the UK autorities cooperated with the FBI and, well, yeah took em down. I believe they eventually gave it back. Quite a public outrage about it too!
While terrorism and stealing game code(depending on who you are) is OBVIOUSLY not the same thing, it still shows, with enough incentive and reasoning, they can do it :P (and no arguments over whether it is the same or not haha that will just get this locked. I'm just saying, they have done it before, whether i agree with it, dunno yet, but yeah, its happened)
So again...wouldn't count them out :P they have ways...those...FBI kids....
I read a few post of people talking about the fbi wasting time with people making money with private server. In what I do for a living (CNC programmer) Their is a lot of people with stolen CAD/CAM software. The FBI is the agency that bust people using it. They have a software piracy team. And they usually only go after people who are making money with it. (business use, as opposed to someone playing with it at home) The mistake the private servers made (besides stealing program in the first place) was accepting donations.
Over 7 thousand accounts just this week. The last two months have seen our heaviest banning yet, and we're getting better and better at it.
And that is just excellent news. I just want a live person behind every player, or I want a train of auto pilot DDs for my BH to drag around.
PS - Oh and the PS users motive. Some were there because it's free, while others were they because it was relaxed. I know how the argument goes, but L2 Korea having a relaxed server makes it ok for us to have one; regardless of how cheated a 10 -15K poster here may feel. If you guys at NANC want to bring some of these transgressor PS users into the fold, a relaxed server will do it.

The 'relaxed' server in Korea is nothing like what these private servers are like - they have 1.5 or so rates and a limited play hours (these limited hours are what makes them 'relaxed').

Not so sure a relaxed server would do it but it's a start. Either way NC would be foolish not to look for ways to pull in these potential paying customers, real customers not this 14 mil bs. People playing pirate server obviously enjoy the L2 world but for whatever reason would rather pay and support some hacks then the company itself.
We basically have one choice of a server type with a small variation of Euro or USA times for very unimpressive events, and in a world where people like options to fit their style, it just doesn't cut it.
The 'relaxed' server in Korea is nothing like what these private servers are like - they have 1.5 or so rates and a limited play hours (these limited hours are what makes them 'relaxed').
And it's counterproductive, because it gets uninteresting very, very fast - and someone who's used to the 'official' high rates would hardly return to a low rate server.
Lineage II does not offer the average player (who likes getting their hand held) enough without the grind. The PvP is worthless outside of the context of PvE, and so naturally, if the PvE goes down the drain, so does the PvP.
You want to know why some people play on private servers ?
The real reason ?
Look at this : [removed]
It doesn't advertise PS, the thread is speaking of the Chaotic Throne and there are some posts about other things related to L2.. btw, it's in french but anyone will understand the pictures :D
P.S. : the person who posted the pictures plays on normal server. I don't know where he found the screenshots and I did'nt ask.
I was fully aware that the message board lovers don't want a relaxed server. I was also aware that a relaxed server would be only mildly accelerated and have a weekly exping time cap. This is all good, and US players need such a server, even if current high level people do not.
A mass marketed game should not be something that only a select few can have time to play.
Attention potential new customer: Start playing lineageII by busting your *** grinding for 6-8 hours a day. Spend 2 hours a day on alts walking around Dion and Giran, memorizing the market system and looking for deals for a total of 10 hours. Save and level on purple mobs, and seed the manor system. Keep busting your *** for grinding for 6-8 hours a day. In a year or so, you'll be 6X and will get invited to sieges and wars. You'll just be fodder for another year or so until you are 7X, if you are able to spend 8 hours a day playing. (and I'm not even going to mention more realities about this game and the source of +10-16 weapons)
There are good potential customers who flat don't have the time for what is described in the paragraph above.. And L2 purest can easily say play something else, but these will be the first to cry when the game stops getting updates.
If they are serious about what Rust mentioned in his post. They better do something to replace that lost revenue.
The raid is a hoax, all fake, the dude just ran away with what he made running that server. Anyways, what surprises me is why ncsoft still leaves this topic open even though they have nothing to do with the fake raid?
. People playing pirate server obviously enjoy the L2 world but for whatever reason would rather pay and support some hacks then the company itself.
Maybe because some ppl realy want to play not to bot 24/7? Lineage 2 is most grinding game ever, you want to be some1 on server you have to choose - stop RL and play here 10h per day, or turn on bot. Lack of possibility to choose server with different rates sucks hardly.
And once again: Where's the content in the game other than grind? Please don't point to the PvP, which is the biggest PvE muscle flex I've ever seen. You can't hope to remove the only real 'content' the game has and wind up with a healthy environment.
1. If the game was easier - I'd play it not the last 2,5 years like I do, but 1,5 month and game over! I like it to be hard, just the new no-drop policy made me happy and that's why I came back! I want it to be hard, but I want what's mine is mine, and prefer to blow my weapon, rather than drop it bacause my ISP have restarted their router and I got DC ><
I don't know what's real and what's not, but it makes some logic. Dunno and don't really care. I just came back on the 28th (before this paranoya) when the no-drop policy-patch was applied, and will go away any other time it is being changed again. Thx^^

You know this cause.... you work the FBI? You are/were a gm or admin on L2X? You are with NCsoft?
One of the gm's for L2x (around 1.5 years, knows everyone involved) has posted lots of times about this. Other admins and gms have posted too.
I really like how these people who arent involved in any way know it is a hoax.
The thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of pirate players would say otherwise.
Either way. nothing would stop people from playing normal rate servers if they enjoy it so.
PvE doesn't exactly qualifty as content also if you don't think PvP does. I was in an alliance that farmed Antharas, same earth dragon child of the original gods that ran around like a stupid puppy dog in circles while we farmed it for gear with mininal deaths. Way to fit in that wonderful L2 Lore. Killing lesser mobs is even more boring.
Now they just made him 20x longer to kill but as uninteresting as ever. Perhaps if the PvE was impressive people woudn't long for PvP as much.
Oh btw, NC likes to advertise L2 because of PvP and Sieges. Note the free trial add.
To those that don't look behind the curtain, this "FBI shutting down L2ex" is a total scam.
They've been up for a long time, they wanted to shutdown, so they used this as an excuse. I called the FBI and no operation of any kind had been brought up against l2x. Also the page they have for their site at the moment does clearly not follow the guidelines the FBI uses to notify of them taking down the server/site. A legit example of a site they did shutdown is : http://www.ibackups.net/
They wanted to call it quits without losing their donations from chargebacks, this was their best way to run with the money.
And once again - the PvP is nothing but a giant PvE muscle flex. It's a matter of class, gear and buffs - all PvE assets.
No, the PvE isn't good - and I doubt anyone woulda claimed that (although raids are definitely fun if done right).
Most people don't have the capacity to have fun in the game on their own, and raising the rates won't change that - it'll only make the playtime the game forces on you shorter.

That's one hell of an assumption in the face of facts such as the success of pirate servers.
They wanted to call it quits without losing their donations from chargebacks, this was their best way to run with the money.
so cause they say the FBI took them down, people cant chargeback? What if in 3 days it is prooven it is a hoax? Those people can still chargeback cant they? Just cause they said the FBI took them down, doesnt mean people cant charge back right? Or is there some law about hoaxing a FBI take down that you cant do a chargeback?
well I guess that could be. Heard some talk that they took down donations like 5-6 weeks ago. Also I think paypal you have up to 45 days. Thats would be right about now for when they took the donations down.
how about the private servers that advertise that they have the original C4 server files and that they bought them from NCSoft itself. will they be closed also or are they working legally and with the blessings of NC?

I highly doubt any of them and working with the blessings of NCSoft.
But NCsoft still has a few more to go! **** those x4000 exp/adena servers. I saw maybe 4, 5 private servers tooken by FBI or just page cannot be displayed.
What the heck are you talking about? A page like on ibackups.net would displayed AFTER the sentencing.
1. The current FBI screen on l2extreme I saw before on many instances - one of the examples would be iSONEWS.COM which was displaying exactly the same design until the registration of domain expired. Looks like you guys did not hang out in cyberspace.
2. The FINAL proof - check to who owns now l2extreme.com:
Domain name: l2extreme.com
Registrant Contact:
Department of Justice
Federal Bureau of Investigation ([email protected])
+1.2023243000
Fax: +1.2023243000
J. Edgar Hoover Building
Washington, DC 20535
US
Conclusion: The L2extreme server has been shut-down by US Gov - NO DOUBT about it! Two other major servers closed down because they got scared.
Great Job, NCSoft - we love you :)

Is this a newer WhoIs? Because the one i just ran shows nothing along those lines. If you ran it a few days ago, their domain just redirected you to the FBI site, so it would show FBI information.

If it was me (and it isn't) and I completely believed the FBI took them down, I'd chargeback anyway.
AGAIN: GRATZ TO FBI FOR SHUTTING DOWN RUN FOR PROFIT ILLEGAL SERVER!
No doubts that it is genue. But I'm not sure if ncsoft had anything do to with it so - since they are late with press release.

You have to follow the referral URL whois server - in this case: whois.enom.com
