Im brand new to this game and want to experiance the pvp element of this game more so the Clan v Clan and Castle sieges then the 1 v 1. I want to be an Orc but haven't decided weather or not i want to be a Monk or a Destroyer or a Shaman.... Ive heard a lot about the shaman classes OL/WC being mostly buffers and not that good at pvp due to mana costs..... So was thinking of making a Monk/Destroyer but dont' know wich would be best for a Clan V Clan or Castle Siege enviroment.... I dont' care about PVE much as i will suffer through if there will be rewards in pvp =p. I also havn't decided on a Server yet i heard the CLan V Clan and Sieges where especialy good on Bartz.
Well I can't comment on orcs that much but overlords are godlike in mass pvp. They can buff, heal, and cp heal (something not even a healer class can do ) the entire ALLY. Within range of course.
That's not getting into the finer points of those skills, but there's a reason why you cannot subclass an overlord :)
If you are successful on Erica, you will be successful on any server. If you are successful on another server, you still might not be good enough for Erica.
Erica is a tough server, a good server, and an exciting server. Only the best thrive on Erica. If that appeals to you, come along, but know that it will be a tough road and many don't make it.
Those of us on the Erica server like to believe it is tougher here than the other servers. Right now what makes it harder here is our economy is a mess. I honestly can't say what the other servers are like. Erica has a smaller population, messed up economy, and people who will gank you for no reason at all. The same can probably be said about any of the servers.
If you just want to be able to 'kill people' in PVP, just go ahead and forget about orcs right now. Pick a Nuker or Archer and go with that. It doesn't matter if you are in a clan war gank/pvp or a siege, range > ALL as far as L2 is right now. Nukers *will* run out of MP and Archers have to kite (Some melee anyway), but both will see more 'action' than orcs. (Or most other melee for that matter.)
If you want to 'participate' in pvp but aren't all hung up on being the one making all the 'kills', then by all means orcs or pretty much every other character is a fair choice. (Yes, even dwarves!) You won't get nearly the same kills, but you can be a very important part of your clan/party/alliance. That said however, your deaths will probably be greater than your kills. :/
This is the breakdown however as I percieve it.
1) Orc Destroyer - Very good char in tight spots where ranged can't keep you away. High HP/CP and strong attacks. Comparatively slow speed however, so act as a 'MP sink'/Meat shield for your ranged members while trying to close and kill if the enemy foolishly ignores you. If your not yet strong enough to kill the enemy fast, get a blunt and stun. Don't try to kill, work with another char - you stun, they kill. For total stun annoyance, get a mage Blunt with Mana Up....and really go to town stunning crap! (Patk has nothing to do with Stun's land rate.) You probably won't kill much if at all, but you'll be a large disruption to the enemy if they don't drop you fast.
As far as Polearms go, they are really only good if your inside the castle or a catacomb. You have no AOE stun, just a damage skill and later a CP reducer so using one all the time isn't worthwhile in pvp.
A 1H/2H blunt (for stuns even if you don't go stun crazy) OR a 2H sword will be your main weapon choices.
2)Orc Tyrant - The orc 'DD'. Stun and ranged attacks with good totem use and you are a tough customer with good durability. Attack speeds can get crazy, but your a bit 'squishier' than a destroyer, although less likely to get kited to death. As a bonus you only need one weapon (fists) to do all this. Out of all the orc's this one will give you the best opportunity for 'action'.
3)Orc Warcryer - Very good 'physical' buffer. Has a ranged Poison/Flame/MP Burn and a drain....but you WILL have MP issues. Far better as a pve char, but definately not 'helpless' in pvp. You work best as buffer first, followed by being an 'attacker of opportunity'. Your Chant of Life takes to long to use /work to be of 'burst' use in pvp, but is still useful to keep everyone healing when your not directly under attack. Your sleep isn't uber fast to cast due to orc mystics base WIT, but it's much faster than a nukers after C5, and thus more useful. (Even without a cast speed setup!)
Use stun/DoT's/Sleep to assist, with a drain or two when needed but don't expect to get a lot of kills or direct action. On the other hand your not that easy to kill either. (Comparatively anyway.)
4)Orc Overlord - Mostly a 'support' character. BUT a more active one than a Warcryer. For pvp buffing, being able to buff EVERYONE in your ally/clan nearby is very useful. You really only get the basics (At least until very late 70's) but being able to keep these up is nothing to dismiss. WW/Acumen being two of the more important ones. Berserk is a bit of a yes/no buff, but Evasion and Mdef help a good deal even if they aren't 'uber'.
The 'Heart of Paagrio' benefits from being very fast cast and partially instant (Thus affected by Spiritshots) but uses MP voraciously. It won't replace a good Bishop or even a SE/EE most of the time, as most damage in pvp is burst or focused, but being able to heal everyone at range (even those not in your party!) is fairly powerful. Same pretty much goes for your CP heal. Although being able to heal CP is actually a bit more powerful than healing people HP in most cases! (Since you can do it to others without a potion!)
Your Seals are actually the least useful and most situational tools you have at hand. They are very limited by short range, limited duration, low land rate and relatively high MP cost. That said, they can definately be 'tide turners' if used at the right time and location.
Like the Warcryer you also have sleep and a drain. Due to having the berserk buff whenever you need it, your do a bit more damage and land a bit more, but the MP use is still the same. (Cast speed nearly so.) You could either assist with them, or take one enemy out before you run out of MP. (Just like the WC, assuming the enemy isn't well below your level.)
Perhaps the hardest part of being an OL is knowing when and where to use your skills. (Aside from leveling one!) Compared to a WC, you will have to make harder decisions on what to do and when to avoid wasting your MP. In smaller pvp, your not quite as 'strategic' but still effective at what you can do.
Thank you for the great Reply PainAmplifier im torn between a Tyrant and an overlord. I like to help my team mates with support but also like to help kill things and be effective. also with the overlords ability to buff heal the entire allience wouldn't it seem that only 1 or 2 are needed in the entire allience since im guessing their buffs don't stack? or are there seriously a lack of overlords?

The difficulty in leveling an OL makes them one of the hardest and least common characters. Being restricted to ally/clan for your buffs is one of the harder things to get used to. (No pickup-parties.) No their buffs don't stack, (At least no more or less than any two other buffers do) but a single buff round or round of heals can almost completely deplete their MP. And without 'Higher Mana Gain' the only really effecient way to get MP back is by sitting down in those situations.
You seldom see more than 1 or 2 OL's not because they aren't needed...but rather because they are that rare. Although unlike most other classes, having a lot of them doesn't necessarily help overpower your side.
Your ability to help 'kill things' as an OL is pretty restrictive. By MP use and regen mostly...NC nerfed us in C5 this way even more by making our Drain cost 30% more MP in a futile effort to 'balance' the game for Olympiad fights. (AKA The RPS (un)balance system.)
As an OL myself, I strongly suggest that you play the Tyrant as your main. It takes a certain amount of stubborness and determination to level an OL. (Some might say Masochism) If you still feel that you might want to level an OL, try and level one as an alt. You can pretty much re-use your Tyrants equipment on the OL after the tyrant outgrows it, although you might want to get some robes as well. (No real need for a 'set' though.) It wouldn't be an ideal setup, but it will be enough to let you know if that is a char you would like to play as a main. Most people realize an OL isn't for them before L52 though.
