In y0 face, big time cheaters

From a UO Developer, great stuff: (In reference to a recent big ban operation on dupers, where they wisely went for the big time cheats and made the whole operation collapse in on itself)

No one was banned for buying duped artifacts, unless they did so in mass quantities. We're ultimately responsible for the bug that allowed the dupe to occur in the first place, so it'd be pretty unfair to ban players who unwittingly bought a few artis or other high end items for personal use, etc.

However, item sellers who bought a LOT of duped items (as in you go to their house/backpack and see a bag with a 3 dozen covetous statues, 20 hats of the magi, 15 ornies, and some "unique" event items thrown into the mix) were given no quarter. While the dupers may have exploited this bug, it was the item sellers who truly did the damage to the game. Any one of them that tries to tell you, "But I only bought items from a supplier, I didn't realize where they came from," needs to be smacked upside the head, and then tarred and feathered.

UO is a GAME, not a freakin' business, and while we don't ban players for selling things for cash, we're not going to look very kindly on those who harm the game in doing so. And honestly, are any of these "trustworthy" brokers and item sellers with "years of UO experience" really going to tell us with a straight face that they didn't know those bags of 125 character transfer tokens and the bags full of extremely rare event items (i.e. bags with more of them than should even exist in all of UO) were duped?

Equine Puckey!

If those people bother to email me, they might as well call just call 976-WHAH, because that's pretty much going to be my reaction when I read their "so sad" emails.

To this date, I've unbanned ONE player, who had ONE account banned (out of 3), where a genuine mistake was made. I've been going through the players who have emailed me so far, one by one, to see if we made a mistake somewhere else. Tonight, I got an email from a "lady" who claimed she had never exploited, and was just a nice mother of 2 who loved UO. Pfft. How about that bag of 30 each valorite hammers, barbed kits and heartwood dovetail saws we found in her house? Or the fact that the account she was trying to keep hidden from us had a bag with 124 hat of the magis in it, along with lots of other artifacts?

To those people: DON'T BOTHER EMAILING ME! I wasn't born yesterday, I don't fall for the lame emo emails, and we're simply not going to release your account with 100's of duped items on it because you spun a really unconvincing story about how you just bought your account from your little brother/roommate/ex-girlfriend and didn't know your house was already being used to store those 500 artifacts. And yes, we DO know about your other "hidden" accounts. And no, changing your IP, using an internet cafe or using different payment methods won't help you either. We WILL find you, so you might as well just stop wasting your time and go find another game to exploit. Or, I have a better idea - how about if you go find something productive to do with your lives? That's the best idea of them all.

And honorable players - please, STOP BUYING from the item sellers who were "out of stock" last week. These parasites wouldn't be perpetuating this fraud if no one bought their stuff in the first place.

If any of this sounds harsh, well, I suppose it is. I love this game, and I really don't like people who try to do it harm.

Thats awesome. That guy really let them have it huh.
Too bad well never see anything like this. :(
Nice...that response almost makes me want to go try UO again (tried it once many years ago for a month), becuase you can really tell how much the game. Bravo and i just wish more companies would stand up like that and give the exploiters and cheaters a true slap in the face like that.
Some more ownage of a big time cheater going on and on about complete innocence and insulting the devs left and right. I could understand it if it was small time cheating, but this guy was just a big big big time cheater

UO Developer:

Personally attacking me on Uhall isn't going to get your account unbanned, but since you seem to love talking about this in public, let's do just that.

You were banned because you were involved with another player selling duped items at various vendor houses. I did review your ban when you emailed me, but looking at the evidence, I can't think of anything you could possibly say to get it overturned.

Let's see... can anyone think of a valid reason for a player to have multiple bags of rare event items in quantities that exceeded the total number ever created across all shards, bags of dozens of 2 story covetous statues, bags with dozens of high end artifacts like hats of the magi and such all placed in exactly the same place in each bag, and hundreds of character transfer tokens that were linked directly to the dupers themselves?

I sure can't.

And before we get to the, "But I didn't know about those items!" line, I found books in some of those bags that recorded which items you had taken from the duped item stash to sell on your own vendors, and how much you owed the other person. And yes, the books were written by YOUR character.

No item seller that has the resources to get into the very high end trading game is going to be oblivious to the fact that those items, in those quantities, were obviously duped. You got greedy, purposefully broke the rules many times, and now you've lost your privilege of playing UO. Go complain somewhere else, please, because no one here wants to hear it.

Goodnight.

This is better than movies!

One of those foreign ones that is subtitled and I still have no clue what's going on...
Let me break it down for you.

Recently a big operation went down where the biggest "behind the scenes" cheaters were banned. (they deliberatly went after those because 1. It lessened the chance of banning innocents considerably 2. It had a lot bigger impact positive impact on game development).

One guy went on and on about being innocent on the forums, attacking the devs, and attacking people for showing evidence that he was a big time cheater.

A UO Developer reviewed his ban on his own time and responded the way you see above. Very moral inspiring piece of ownage :)

I'd agree with this about the original announcement. The last one, however, is a little too juvenile "nyah nyah, ha ha you got banned" for me. Especially coming from a company representative. They should be a little more adult than that.
Well, the guy had gone on and on attacking the developers, claiming innocense and causing alot of mischief over multiple forums, it was good to see him put into place.

I would agree that it would have been juvenile normally, but this was a big fish...a really big fish....it would be like wacking down one of L2's biggest adena bosses or the leader of a huge cheater alliance.

Oh I get that. I would just hate to see HGMspam start acting like that here whenever the "I got banned innocently" posts appear. I think it's extremely unprofessional.
Aaaaah the drama! Can't have a game without it!
1. This isn't "every time" these appear.
2. Its quite professional considering it was brought up, instead of having hearsay rule the stage, it was handled out in the open without secrecy.
3. Its not like HGMSpam hasn't had his own outbursts anywhere either :p

and

4. At least they're banning the top end cheaters, heh. J/K :p

Apparently some can't. This little thing was awesome in finishing off a long trail of drama posts.

Aaaaah the drama! Can't have a game without it!

Drama between players is one thing. Hell, I play on Hindemith, drama central. And, while I enjoy reading about it from the players, I expect a level of professionalism from the company itself. A "haha you got banninated" post from the GM is silly, I don't care who the player was.

4. At least they're banning the top end cheaters, heh. J/K :p

This was referenced in their first statement. Nothing else needed to be said to make this point. The following statement was just "piling on."
Oh well, you're entitled to your opinions.
If this guy was among the worst cheaters, enough people would know that to just laugh at his attempts to prove himself innocent. Really, there was no need for another response from the company.

Obviously you like people that gloat. I don't really care for it.
I like honesty and being more out in the open about certain things.

Enough people "wouldn't know", there will always be a ton of stories and "he said, she said" things going around. Noone had any clue as to the real extent of it at all, except the developers and the guy himself.

But *shrugs*
Oh come on. If the worst cheater on your server got banned and posted here that he was innocent, you wouldn't need Spam to post "ha ha cheater, you got yours."
Actually that would be great, a definitive smackdown to those at the very top responsible for the worst parts of the game would be very welcome.

Your point that no one really knows if it's true. Again, do you need Spam to assure you that the worst cheater on your server was banned justly?

This is better than movies!

And yet there is a rooster who narrates. Yeah.. that one. :p
I think you missed the point...again.

But thats ok, not going to go round and round in circles with you for the next 5 pages.
I guess you didn't mean to say this then:

Enough people "wouldn't know", there will always be a ton of stories and "he said, she said" things going around. Noone had any clue as to the real extent of it at all, except the developers and the guy himself.

Strategery!
