server merge...is it a myth or possibility

General Discussion Started Last reply 27 posts
a while back someone in game was telling me that ncsoft had considered merging all of the servers into just 3 or 4 servers. they said that the idea was going to take time go into action because of the problem that would be created by people having the same character names, but in the end the player who created their character first would be awarded the same and the other would have to revise. this would be a sick idea becuase the kain server blows. i know its probably not true that there is ever going to be a merge but you never know.
No plans at this time for server merges. The playerbase is presently growing.
That is a myth. Every time the GM's have posted in response to these kinds of threads they state emphatically that there are no plan's to merge servers.

Dang Rust beat me to it.

The playerbase is presently growing.

yea growing with bot farmers, but thats about it

Hey dude, you are WRONG.

Less bots, more players. NCSoft is getting things done right in this long term struggle. Well done NCSoft.
even when you ban one of them, they make another account the next day....
NCSoft may be doing their best to clean the servers of all the bots, but arent all the good hunting spots always being used by bots? i cant speak for all severs, but on kain they are
i think that a server merge would be great, even if new people are joining the game it is spread over 10 servers and only adding to the low-end areas of the game not helping the high end for at least 6+ months per new person.
preach it brother :)
im a long term player, since c1, and i can really say i really see
a lot less bots, and a less farmers than before. i miss those days
we had to learn chinese words. i really thing the economy is
ran a lot more now player based than before.
before it was more like, raid boss farmers and that kind of
stuff. before the raid boss farmers there was the normal
farmers (like players).
now it's like, lots of bans :), A crystal price shooting cus all
the ebayers dont wanna do catacombs/necros, C grade armor
prices shooting cus the ebayers dont wanna craft etcetera.
but all in all, everything is a lot better now, player run economy,
bots banned, farmers kiked, oh yeah :)
what you see now is remains or new bot accounts that are soon
to be banned and not getting any far either level or economy
wise.
Server mergers have been chewed over and Rejected (by the vast majority of the player base as well as by NCSoft) quite a few times. Server merges = bad idea, drop it.

Re other comments. Ebayers cause bots, bots earn money which is sold on ebay. So, if YOU (the player) want to help stop bots, then make buying adena (cheating) unacceptable in your circle of friends.

Don't allow those cheaters in your clan, don't party with them, don't befriend them. While NCSoft works hard, and with increasing success, to ban the bots...it is up to us, the player base, to implement the long term solution: dry up the demand for bots by making cheating unacceptable behavior on the servers.

Anyone who accepts ebaying (cheating) is contributing to the bot problems. Don't blame NCSoft, look in the mirror.
there should be a way to pk bots without going red....that would ease all of out sufferings and also add some fun to the game too :)

Don't blame NCSoft, look in the mirror.

haha, now i'm no ebayer....but if i were those words would cut like a knife :D

Maybe you should take a look at sieghardt. I remember about a year and a half ago there was a siege at giran that had 35 clans attacking and 15 or so defending. The biggest siege in recent months has had less than 10 on each side, yup, i can really see things growing :/
Hey. i'm pretty new around here. Been playing abit here and a bit there. Though I know alot about the game after many months of studying it so wouldn't even call my self a noob anymore.

Right now i'm playing on Siegehardt hit 40 just the other day and was as usual waiting for the big can of fun to begin. But as everytime before, most ppl around your lvl e-bayed their gear. So for me as a legit player there is no low/mid c-grade to buy. not even the mats. Cause everyone only wants the top stuff since they can afford it. It was the same about D grade.
Now i was lucky and was lent some gear from a nice fellow. Otherwise that woulda been hell to aquire aswell.
I do understand that most players have been around for ages and that the "new players" arent even 5% of all the ones that play. This about not partying with e-bayers to freeze them out.. It's impossible since they seem to be in majority atleast in the lvl range i'm in atm.. which means i'm glad if i get any party at all in the [censored] gear i have.

Anyway.. didn't mean to get carried away like that :o
I really just wanted to know.. which is the most legit server?
I wanna play there. And to those who don't like my grammar. sry i'm Swede :p
We would love to have you on Erica.

I'm not sure anyone is qualified to say which is 'most legit' since very few people play enough on two servers to really get a deep feel for the morality of the server, much less play on a bunch of servers.
Have you noticed though, that our robotic visitors (RustNC's words not mine) tend to get out of the way of real players lately? I have noticed this quite a bit on Bartz. I want the room for my party, I beat on our robotic visitors for a while with my hands until I get the attention of their minder (I'm a Warlock, so I end up Binding some of their buffers). They then leave and log out or just go stand in the hall until we leave.

I don't know what's up with that, but at least they are getting out of the way, and I didn't have to go red to get it done! Warlocks have a tough time doing the sin-eater quest dammit!

You NUB!

What about the past two siege weekends...... Tons of people showed up for both weekends....

Clans are larger now but we have seen numbers at sieges grow!

Take care
Balis
I can understand Vanaja's concern...I'm in the same boat. I've found, that basically, I have to either A. Keep recreating my orc everytime I hit lvl 40, until I can afford C grade (about a total of 50 times). or B. Create a dorf and repeat step A. with the dorf. or C. All of the above. Unfortunately, the game isn't so engrossing that I would be able to stay interested for that long. :/
I ran into another recent disappointment last night... I had this really cool idea to solo RBs with an archer-type class. I raised an ES to lvl 20. Traded my glaive for the Light Xbow, grabbed a couple thousand DSS, and went to find an RB. I figured I could kite it and kill it, thus hopefully getting some adena/items actually worth my time. Well...to my surprise...they all run very fast...
Get into a group and do an RB then. Or manor. Or fish. Or play the market.

Making money is part of this game - you're not supposed to get gear just from grinding.

that's only because hero's are gone when they come back you can kiss sieges good bye again on sieghardt =/

o yea and catalyst will retake every single castle again
THat would mean that the issue with sieges aren't the server population but something else altogether... :p

You are aware that when C5 hit, alliances got reduced from 12 to 3 clans and clans got increased in size many times over.

So of course you'll see less clans.
I love these threads, every time NCSoft does something positive for the game a bunch of "Hey all my friends are gone let's merge the server's!" threads pop up. Coincidence??

Yep, noticed very much the same. When I logged to my twink lately, I was doing the field of silence material quest (the class is assassin). The place was swarmed with dwarves with funny names. I attacked a few of them and every single one would say "???" on the first hit and ignore any further hit. I reported the whole bunch in a roundhouse kick petition and the next day, I had the field for myself. There are still some of the critters around the place, but strangely they stay out of my touch.

A few things about this little game.. First of. Everything is time consuming. There are no "quick fix" to getting what you want, and for a new player to the servers, just levelling and spamming shots isn´t gonna get you into the millions of adena. Especially shots are a money sink. Rarely will shots-spamming be anything but an expense to you.
Alas there are plenty of other ways to make money. People always say the same few things to people who remark upon their financial state.
1. Manor
2. Play the market
Especially the last one I have some experience with and I use it often. Right now my dwarf ( which I picked up again after some time away from her) has reached b grade and she is soon so financially well of that I can get 2 weapons and top armor. This is purely done by playing the market. Ive been around the game for 6 months or so, and have a main higher than my dwarf, but she is completely self sufficient, and the money for all that b grade is my net result from 40k adena, which she had on her when I picked her up.
if you look in the players guides section there are good manor guides, "marketplaying for beginners" guides (I even wrote one) and guides to help you with all kinds of stuff. So dont worry. If your willing to put some researchtime, and some worktime into it, you can "easily" make your characters self sufficient. Just takes a little bit of planning, and a lot of work.. . No need to "kill your interest" levelling again, and again, and again to make a little money.. If your learn how to take advantage of the market you can quickly get into d grade equipment.. heck, only took me around a week to make 40k grow into 30 million for complete full plate armor, c jewels and top c weapon with sa.

This I am sorry to hear. Most parties I engage in are for the fun of it, for the people. I could never dream of saying no to someone, based on them not having top items. In fact I would rather pick up someone who wasnt in top grade, because it would indicate to me that he was new and could use a break :).
I hope you can find some players with the same way of thinking.

I learned that lesson myself when I started out.. .. I thought "How tough can they be ?? lol

Well, ever since I started out my first char, I have had a love for TI. I usually go there at least once a week, and was even there yesterday. Yesterday that place had lots of players. and from speaking with some of them I learned that most of them were brand new players ( not alts ) so i would definitly say that numbers are climbing.

Sorry for the long-off-main-topic-rant-answer I just felt it appropriate to add a few comments of my own 8)

For my on-topic-two-cents .. technically possible I could emagine, but chances for it happening in the near or far future = 0,00% i reckon. which is just fine by me :)

Actualy, there is low and middle C gear sold in NPC shops and is gettable at a prety decent price. I sugest you to check out Luxore shop in Giran.

lucky you... for about a year on hindemith there has only been 1-2 castles actually sieged each week and until this past cycle never more than 10 clans on either side
