It's based off of the amount of players on the server....
Was there an official statement on this?
In any case, I had horrible drop rates in my early morning, but they were 'ok' at night (morning: 1 pollen in 1 1/2 hours of hunting, night around 20 pollen in 2 hours of hunting).
It's based off of the amount of players on the server....
BASED ON THE TIME YOU PLAY THE GAME.
If your Europe on an non Europe server, then your screwed, Lets face it, Lionna is REALLY active on EU prime time, it's an unofficial euro server, yet what? they drop in insane low rate.
Last event they actually had this darn thing fixed for once and made it even, but oh now they screwed us up again..... gah.
Not to mention that yet AGAIN, we lose 1+ days of the event right off the bat because of starting at 10PM, which for some servers because of time zones, leaves just 1 hour of possible drops for the first "day" of the event.
I'm sure like other events, it'll end at some ridiculously early time, like 6AM, so we lose yet more time off the event. (Hence, the 1+days lost.)
PleChan is right. They almost had it right the last event, but went right back to the screwed up way. Peak hour drops, and less then actual event run time. 4 days and a number of hours of possible dropped items is not a 6 day event. And with peak hour drops, its more like only 16 or so hours.
3/4 day event ftl.
I'm just lucky I have off from work for the holidays and can actually try this event, unlike the last time where I barely got enough for 2 small seeds and the 10 nectar (I gave up hunting for the nectar since I could only hunt in the early morning, long after peak hours).
Why do they always have to come up with cool events and then screw it up y such regulations as time on which you are online to define a drop rate... For god sake can't you just make an event with let's say 75% drop rate or even 100% and give everyone a fair chance to actually get pumpkins and then just make the chance of having the BIG SHOT items a bit harder then set now?
Would that be too difficult? Or is this a WAY TOO easy thought that just slips through the net?
At least in this fashion ALL players would actually be able to have fun and get a go on the pumpkins, but the chance to get the soul crystals (f.e.) would stay a gamble (like with the boxes event last time).
And then on another note: Why make a GAMBLE event last 3 weeks and a near to impossible dropping event only 4 days??? Beats my comprehension there sorry.
If memory servers me right... Mistryl or someone at NC said the drop rate is based on the population at the given time.... So if more players are on prime time 7-10 pm CST the drop rate is higher.

Still no matter how it's set it's not really a fair chance towards the whole server population and frankly the lousiest regulation I've ever come across in an MMO. This is pure discrimination towards all (US/EURO) players who don't or Can't play at peak hours.
nothing drops more than another, and at no time are there "peak" drops.
dont make assumptions.
nc is not as ******ed as to discriminate WHEn the pollen drops.
noobs
TALK FACT PLZ, It's SURE RANDOM. BUT the DROP CHANCE AT US PRIME TIME IS WAAAAAAY HIGER.
And sorry for screaming but I'm seriously ****** this time.
I've been true TONS of events like this, I know by fact how it works, this is not the first event this is the case in, and I'm still as **** mad as every time, last time they made it right now they screw us up again.
Drop rate at US prime time got 22 in 40 min, now at EU prime time where I mainly play at, I got 9 in 2,5 hour. I can ENSURE you that this gonna be the case EVERY day this week, and ain't it FUNNY that I'm neither the only one saying this?

Guess you live in your own world.
Darn you beat me to it ^^
QFT and indeed seen more then enough LII events to know how it works as well. I did build my post on facts not assumptions, SPudnik.
i wasn't around for the last pollen event, so i'm not sure of something. In the event description, it says to kill stuff close to your lvl. How close to your lvl to the mobs have to be to drop pollen? is it fine to hunt, say, anything from green to yellow and still have good drop rate???
nothing drops more than another, and at no time are there "peak" drops.
While that is true, if hundreds of players see the same pattern across several events, while it's no guarantee that the drop rates are time dependant, it's a bit like tossing a coin a few hundred times and getting tail every time.
I don't know this is just my opinion but I find any event in L2 a waste of time, and the pollen drop rate?! well I guess you can say I don't see a big difference of the drop this year than it was last year, or the year after that.. most of the event's has sucked the only good one I've been on is the C4 PTS event.. and the Rabbit hunt event now that's cool
I think Splatter is right.
I played in the early morning and had in 1 1/2 hours 6 pollen. In the evening I got 10 in half an hour.
I had this feeling since LA2 Prelude, that all drops depend on time and/or loged in players.
Lets see the Black Lion Quest I have done really really often:
I get 6-8 cargo boxes with 50 ashes in the morning, 10-16 in the evening. Same thing seems to happen with the coins in coin quest.
Most full drops I had right after the maintenance or after a server crash.
Hmm perhaps I am a victim of paranoia or an evil conspiracy theory ;)
It's not players online, as far as I'm aware - otherwisely Lionna would have different peak drop times than it does.
Exactly, Lionna got 2 peek times,
One on EU prime time, one on US prime time, Lionna was the first unofficial EU server before teon was even made, there's LOTS of them, our clan is made of 1/3 Europeans example.
6 buff rounds in a 4 person catacomb party, 3 pollen for me
3 buff rounds soloing at FG, 1 pollen for me
Yay
Nobody can tell me that the drop rate is the same over the whole day when others play at 3 am GMT (that is evening US time) and get 20 pollen in one buff round hunting at the same spot where I got 1 pollen in 3 rounds.
well its plain and simple they miss the main point of making the event, entertaining their players. (their loyal older players)
like some of you i've played since open beta, and i like this game even with its drawbacks. but the events are CRAP, and getting crappier per time they make one. maybe drop rates were too high on the first events, but this drop rate is a joke with my play time i cant even get 100 pollen together in total this week yet i see the bots selling 700+ already on day 2.
i farmer 3.5 hours, killed 350+ mobs and got 12 pollen. i boosted my quest items 150 and they dont even drop 1/3.
no GM or game developer can tell me its not messed up.
they need to change it, events that are more annoyance then fun makes ppl dislike the game.
heard more then one guy that left L2 complain about stuff like this, or the stupid bugs they cant seem to fix like siege mass disconect, releasing to CH in siege and loosing full %.
more then once have i been cursing behing my CPU at the next automated message that they will look in to it or that they cannot or will not help.
for once i would like to speak to a RL GM, in the years i played sofar that happend only 2-3 times and i am shure i petitioned 10 times that much over the years.
MY experience so far is 6p-10p est is best drop rate. I have 94 pollens.
I have played quite a bit on low alts since event began.
From 11pm on the drop rate falls for me quite a bit. As others have said, 3 in a buff round or two is good. At one point in AC I gathered 220 badges (not every mob gives a badge) and I lost count after 300 mobs. I'd guess I killed the better part of 400. That was this morning. 4 pollens.
This evening in 1 buff round--12.
I won't be staying up late to try to gather more tonight--I already know it won't be productive.
Tomorrow night I'll get another 20 or so I hope. I guess since it's 'extra' that I shouldn't complain. But that's a lot of hours hoping for pollent to drop without much to show for it. Btw, highest price i saw for pollens on Lionna tonight was 30k each.
grinded from lvl20-29 with my nuker, tok 8 hours, got 59 pollens :(
and yes, peak hours suck, should be even drop rate no mather what time you play!
at one point I was aoe'ing in minthril mines (50+ mobs /nuke) got 4 pollens from my first pull, then I dident get any pollens at all in, about 20 pulls.. thats kinda low drop-rate. less then 0,1% ??? >.<
It would never cross my mind that events drop rate could be variable. That is unfair to many players. Why didn't they make it a steady drop? This is discrimination. I guess I'd better wake up in the real world of NC.
The worst thing about it is that everybody complains, but the NCSoft people do not even bother answering the questions. It would be good to know a reason for this stupid varying drop rate (I cannot think of one, seriously - and no, "these are the US servers" is not a good enough reason, since the drop rates are bad even for a lot of US players), but right now I would be content with knowing at exactly which times the drop rates are better, so that I can plan ahead.
It's roughly between midnight and four in the mornig in that case. I'm used to sleeping from around nine to three (guess what for), so this pretty much sucks for me ... but I guess I'll swap it around a bit, it's the weekend anyway.

Yes, I live in Germany. Well, seems I will play a bit longer this weekend, but during normal weekdays those times are simply not possible :/
and I'm apart of one of those clans that's mostly europeans.. feels like I'm in a UN convention sometimes..
No Alican, our clan IS european with some US guys who have no problems being part of a UN convention as you so beautifully state it. This was clearly stated before you joined ;)
As for the drops, my hudband played all night yesterday with 2 other clanies hunting in the same spot for over 4 hours straight and they all together had just enough to do one pumpkin and feed it.
I hope this weekend we'll be able to play at those US prime times and maybe still get some fun out of this event. If I compare this event with the medals event earlier this year, then I must say that the medals were far more dropping then the pollen are here.
a drop rate that varies is dumb, i see no reason why it should vary and there are more arguments against it the for it. it should be a fixed % per mob i guess and then you have to make a % adjustment when mobs are multiple HP but still it should be fair IMO.
but mostlikely they think they can get more players by making fun events, yet how many ppl do you know that dont complain about drop rate?
i'm euro and i know there are alot of euro's on my server Lionna. Those arent happy with the bloody drop rate at all. we got 6-7 hours difference with america, you wont see many euro's playing after midnight, when the stupid drop rate supposedly increases.
same goes for drop rates of mats and adena, thx to the farmers the drop rates go down, so the normal player that doesn't ebay adena can hardly make any crafts or money unless he spends 50% of his time buying and selling. but they need to be online for that, so bottomline is the casual gamer has no room in L2 to accomplish anything. thus he will play other games after realising this.
