Without taking daggers into account which melee char tends to be most used in pvp? i hate playing ranged classes even though i hear they seem to own all in pvp here :P I like dual wield chars a lot too. Also which would be the best buffing char to duo with a meleer soloing. Thanks in advance for the replies!
All the buffer classes have something, and lack something. Prophets buffs are great, including Hastee, but they don't have VR. SE buffs are nice, but they don't have Haste. I don't know too much about EEs, but I know they don't have VR. Warcryers at very high levels have great buffs for melee. They just take a lot of levels to get them. And Warcryers are limited in healing. You will have to make a choice based on which trade-offs suit you best.

There is no class that owns "all" an archer would be able to be brought down by a elven tank or even a dagger. My opinion would be an archer tho if your just looking for a DD
Dagger classes have the highest output for the most limited amount of time.
Destroyers have the highest P atk possible for a decent amount of time.
Tyrants have the highest attack speeds possible for an excellent amount of time.
As a squishy type of guy.... I fear Tyrants the most.... for reasons I will explain if prompted. Just know that as a squishy type... no melee can output as much and as I can. Seriously. On Franz... a brand new server... I can do 4k damage for 50 mana to a mob 10 levels higher than I am.... all the while using weapons/ armour a grade lower... and of the lowest tier.
Question: Who do you thing would crank out most straight melee damage, between a TH and a Tyrant using Puma Totem and Fist Fury, while in party with Sws(crit rate song) and BD(crit power song)
Cant say for sure but my hunch is without songs TH does more damage, but with songs Tyrant will do more.
Summoners are quite nice for melee DPSing as well. They are an interesting class in that they can play several roles: pure melee DPS, AoE nukers/debuffers, Healers/Buffers (with few but nice buffs), and cubic/mass cubic summoners.
PS's Nightshade is the only summon that can heal other party members. As for buffs, the ES and WK get summons that give your whole party buffs like like songs. The WK buff summon gives party crit rate and crit power all on 1 buff from 1 character.
Phantom Summoners have a summon called Nightshade which has the skill Sacrifice of Shade.
It causes the summon to transfer a portion of its HP to the target. At max levels it can restore about 1008 HP (w/bsps) for the cost of 900 HP of the Shade; even more if it gets empower or zerk. Cast speed is faster than major heal. And if the shade runs out of HP it can be unsummoned/resummoned and will start at full HP again. It has 8500 HP base to draw from, and of course the summoner can heal it.

Tell me, why do you fear us?
You have run speed, hp, attack speed, stun, slow, and range... all rolled into one class. No other melee class have ever given me as much trouble as Tyrants have. PWs could have come close... if there where actually PWs in the server who wheren't on my side ( and so far I've yet to see a single one on Franz ). With that said... I haven't pvped tanks since Franz opened... aka C5 which is when they got new skills. Until then.. I fear Tyrants the most.

tell me. . . why would you fear a tyrant over a dagger? seeing as daggers have good accuracy and easily take out a mage by simply using a bow? with dash my dagger has more speed, can easily one hit any mage his level, and if needed can use ranged attack (I keep my dagger/bow in my quick bar)
Tyrant at 30% HP with Bison activated.... lol damage, especially combined with Zealot (+100% crit damage and 450+ crit rate, without SWS, not to mention the attack speed). Destroyers are also insane at 30% hp, which does more damage would be interesting to know ^^
Tyrants also maim daggers unless they get a lucky leathal shot in.
at low lvls? 40-50? I must say summoner!
I recently made a warlock, and Im stunned with the power they have!
Im wearing PL set and samurai longsword +10 focus (no tatoos yet) and with PP/SE oop buffs. I easy solo one big and one small room in cata, branded, with white mobs. easy! befor I got the +10 samurai sword I had a +4 berzerker sword focus, and I made the same jobb as well, 1,5 rooms, but I tok more damage then I do now (got shield now) still, I never have to heal me or my summon, and I kill faster then I did with my TH at lvl40 (and I had OOP SE/PP buffs, PL set, full tatoos +5str+4dex AND +12 crystal dagger)
I just hope warlocks keep their stunning power at higher levels as well :)
decided to try a destroyer, like the look of orcs in general, just undecided on the buffer now
If you like orcs, you can consider also Warcryer as support class. They have haste, vampiric, and can heal over time with chant of life. Just get all those buffs later than prophet or SE.
Gots to say, the top 3 mellee DPS classes are Gladiator, Destroyer, and Tyrant. Not in any peticular order.
I'll start with the Tyrant.
Tyrants are insanely fast. They can outrun PWs and SRs for short periods, and can have the highest Atk. Spd. in the game. Due to weapon type and mastery they have a low to average crit rate, and an extremely high accuracy. They do moderate at 31%+ HP, and they atk Fast enough to Vamp back once they drop below 30%.
Next is Destroyer
The Destroyer has outrageously high HP and is the slowest moving class in the game. They have Zealot in a pinch but that won't catch most classes. They do decent damage due largely to their waepons having the highest P.Atk of the weapon types. And the stacking of proficiencies. They have have very low accuracy and very slow Atk.Spd but make up for it with ridiculous damage when and if they hit. At 30% HP they become Monoliths...stay away from them. They have near 10,000 P.Akt, and can out-smash pretty much anything.
And the Gladiator.
The Glad is the least specialized and the most well-rounded of the 3. They have decent HP, and Strength, but higher accuracy, crit rate, crit damage, and a more diverse selection of skills. Statistically speaking, they are inferior to the other 2 classes, but the addition of ranged attack skills puts them ahead of their counterparts in PvP. They have the 2nd highest damage mellee skill in the game which crits often, and for absurd damage.
In reveiw:
Tyrants
-HP (Average)
-Mellee Damage (Average over time, high in short bursts)
-Ranged Damage (Low, but can make ranged attacks)
-Speed (Best in the Game)
Destroyer
-HP (Among the Best in the Game)
-Mellee Damage (Best in the Game, don't get close)
-Ranged Damage (no ranged skills, almost useless with a bow)
-Speed (Slowest in the Game)
Gladiator
-HP (Average to Low)
-Mellee Damage (Consistantly high and even higher with skills)
-Ranged Damage (Also high, very reliable, no bow required)
-Speed (Average to Low)
hmm i dont know about that. If you are talking about just solo xp'ing w/ outside buffs I would say bd is highest damage dealer hands down.
For groups it is hard to say, I would say in these situations glads still dont out damage bladedancers. Depending on weapon/skills i am sure tyrant and destroyer can outdamage.

I think your statement would be true if skills did not exist. If the only option people had was to select a mob and click 'attack', than yes, BDs would be a decent DD. But people use skills, and that's what makes DDs what they are.
The only class I can think to compare to a BD is a Glad... they have similar proficiencies, but that's about it. blow for blow a BD can do more damage due to their crits being a little higher, but they have no way to compensate for TSS, or any other damaging skill. You will never see a BD deal 9k damage with a single skill...ever...
BDs are great DDs without skills...but factor in skills and most other classes come out ahead, buffed or unbuffed, solo or in party.

most melee rarely use skills in pve
except for daggers who will be oom before the bd has to dance again :P
I'd say Tyrants are more well rounded that Glads.. slow, stun (with main weapon), tons of skills and totems to adapt to any situation far outweight Glads high hp and heavy armor. Tyrants can run down just about anyone within seconds, stun and cripple them before you know what has happened, then unleash hell with skills. Will have higher pdef in light with Ogre than Glad in heavy, and alot better accuracy.
Destroyers have very good accuracy as well, two-handed masteries adds accuracy and they have a toggle.
Oh I'm pretty sure a BD can't outdamage a Tyrant either, perhaps over 60% hp, but at under 60% HP, and especially under 30% it's ridiculus!

Your summon will only get stronger at higher levels but you will get weaker so it pretty much balance out. With a pp and se 2box you should have no problem soloing no matter what level. ;)
Moreover, with a +10 weapon, any character could do such a thing... even starting to try to say that he does so much DPS as a summoner because of the weapon he uses is backwards - summoners, out of all the classes, gain least extra damage out of an OEd weapon.
Whoever said melee fighters dont use specials has never played a Gladiator. You would be an idiot to not use specials, and why wouldnt you? If its because of mana, that is not a problem with all the herbs dropping.

Then 90% of all gladiators on hidemith is idiots. Almost every time I group with Glads they dont use skills, same with alot of other classes.
All melees in my groups use skills - but they mostly pace themselves so well that I have enough MP to recharge them and keep the heals and the group going.
This is probably because I don't have to do too much healing yet.
In tough areas, I simply say 'no DD MP' at the start, and that's that - then they pace themselves even MORE carefully.
There is no point in a melee keeping a full mana bar.
lol i can't use any skills while PvEing...i run out almost as fast as a nuker now...so if i used skillls....i'd be dried up in no time. (2200+mp gone in less than a buff round without using skills)
and i've pmed a GM about my mp before and he said that it was normal recharge rate...but i don't think that's true
Wow... simply put mellee classes that don't use skills are playing 1/2 a class... they are also playing at 1/2 potential, not using skills literaly cuts their DPS down to 1:10.
depends on skill/area/buffs
if a skill cant crit its more often than not not worth useing
glad skills can hit hard but they still have to be charged (alot quicker now i know)
genrally in pve its just
target mob
crit crit
pick up
target next mob
I know warlocks dont benefit very much from a OEd wep, but I still thing warlocks with a +10 wep > daggers with a +10 wep. at least at lvl40-50. so, I would say they are on the top fighting for the best DPS melee toon. unless, they cant keep up with other classes at higher lvls. Im exited to see if they do.
(btw I just dinged 44. realised my summon got a huge boost! he went from ~440 pattack to 580, if i remember correctly. ****, thats a lot! at lvl 44!! +my own pattack ~450 or so... 1000+ p.attack at lvl 44? o.O)
Only unbuffed. And you're not. The summon hits much slower than a player with comparable buffs and doesn't crit as often either, so no, don't tally it up like that ... although they are nice DDs, they do not out-DD a dagger or archer.
As for glads not using skills: our glad often pulls the next mob with his ranged attack (we don't got an archer ... ._. He quitted... come back GildranTheMighty!) to speed up exping a bit. He usually takes ages to need a recharge :p
Our AW is more spam happy, although I wish she would concentrate on hexing instead of stabbing - stabs do big spike damage, but it just doesn't play out as being as valueable as hexed mobs in the long run.
With my tyrant I'd always run with no mp in groups. What would you save it for? Focus when waiting for a new target, use hurricane assault when you can, or stuns to reduce damage on the tank if your healer is burning mp. But why would you save mp?
for pvp. I try never to run out of mana on my TH. you never know when you run into jerks, KSers, PKers, REDs, people you dont like, or, when you just feel for killing someone.
