'Deleted', yeah right.
Hint: The host file is there to modify standard connections, if you just clean it up, you'll get to the proper servers again.

They add entries to play on private servers (not test servers, riha). He deleted his trying to get to live. We're going to see a bunch more of these players now that private servers are shutting down...

If the file wasn't there, he shouldn't have problems getting to live. ;)

Open command prompt
type this command and try live again.
ipconfig /flushdns
This should clear your dns resolver cache.

If you don't have system32 in windows (or whatever the WINDIR is) your computer won't start. Honestly. You'll have to reload windows.
And modifying hosts only gets you on private servers, not the PTS.

1- Check your folder options and make sure your options are set to VIEW HIDDEN FILES. You just MUST have a system32 file somewhere.
I know for some messed up reason, when I got my comp, that file was hidden.
