Farming Clan Points

General Discussion Started Last reply 39 posts
A funny thing happened over the holiday weekend and I just need an opinion from you guys on what is and what isn't decent war tactics. One clan on our server had the unfortunate luck of having their clan points farmed by one of the clans they were at war with. The warred clan got one of their alts into the other clan and then proceeded to kill and resurrect the "spy" until they had taken about 400 to 500 clan points from their enemy. I personally thought that this was a lazy exploit of the current system, but who knows. It could just be one of those "All's fair in love and war" type of deals.

What bothered me the most is, with this kind of playing, hardly anyone is safe. You would have to be on constant guard about who you let in your clan, and even with the most meticulous screening, there is absolutely no way to be sure that the person you're getting is who they say they are. Scamming is one thing, because with a bit of caution, you can save yourself some grief. This, on the other hand, is just a bit too shady and is totally devoid of honor IMO.

What do you guys think?....Fair or foul??

Da Smookster...
I think its fair to be honest. It keeps you a little more on edge and requires you to be selective when recruiting. I actually like that part of the point system so as to keep you clan on its toes. It is a shady way to get points, don't get me wrong, but its just another good thing in this game that makes it less bland.
All's fair in war.
Pretty foul. But *shrugs* like many things in the game it supports the cheaters and exploiters, so its all good I guess.
It's **** low. But then L2 brings out the best AND the worst in people...

L2 brings out the best AND the worst in people...

Not in equal measures, but I agree.

Man. I bet if the Korean development team came to us first they wouldn't be able to keep pace with our ingenuity. :p
It's an exploit, though not bannable so far.

Here's what support says about CRP farming:

-------------------------------

The system is set up to prevent the farming of reputation. You should earn reputation from fighting other legitimate clans. Reputation points are not meant to be "transferred" from clan to clan.

Thank You,
Lineage II support team

Note, that my question arose after CRP points transfer from one sub-clan to another one (as a result we merge clans).

Too true, show us a system and we'll do our best to exploit it, keep quiet about it, then complain when it's nerfed.
I think it's sorta ok but there should be some kind of warning to all clannies if someone dies more than say, 20 times in 30 mins to someone else.
Man..you guys are killing my l2 buzz...

I'm almost to the point that I think my concepts of fair play and honor are wasted in an MMORPG. Seems you have to be Jerk McGurk in the game to get ahead, and even worse, everyone is completely okay with it. Not a whine..just a humble observation. Ah well....I guess it's time to let go of my modest stillness and humility then lend my eye a most terrible aspect!!!

Im not ok with it, but what does that help? Its a common tactic since the beginning of C5.

We haven't encountered this problem before in our alliance, but we know it can happen to us one day too.

I think it's sorta ok but there should be some kind of warning to all clannies if someone dies more than say, 20 times in 30 mins to someone else.

But how would you know if someone dies 20 times? (except for if you're constantly looking at the clan list and notice someone deleveling)

Take the spy char to somewhere remote, kill, ress, kill, ress, kill, ress.

Viola.
This is how its sadly set up and of course like many of these things, it mostly hurts those at the bottom or medium levels if it happens, its not so bad at the highest and it will simply encourage them to do it too.

Makes it very hard to recruit as well.
Honor in L2? Hmm, would love to see more of it, but I wont hold my breath. As for spies, I say go for it. Should be part of the game. Farming clan points like that, well that is crappy and I know its very hard to keep rats out of the clan. If I was ever suspicious of someone not being a team member, I killed them then kicked them from the clan. Guess thats why I have only 3 active members for over a year. Too much work IMO. Put the guys on your KOS list. Does Erica even have KOS lists anymore?
Not really. Other than what the largest alliance pull together and thats usually for something different.

It would be fairly easy to act like you're "part of the team", then farm the heck out of them when people aren't online to know its happening.

The only thing about it is that at least its slow, you only get 1 point per kill.

What do you guys think?....Fair or foul??

Fair. Anyone who is stupid enough to waste their time like that deserves any illusion of accomplishment. I - along with my mates - will continue to do festivals for several thousand rep points per round.

ohhhh...sorry to get off topic here...but how does festival and gaining rep points work?
Assuming your party wins the festival bracket.... you get 100 points per party member that is in your clan. AKA... if your clan wins 3 festivals.... you get 2700 points for that round.

Just make sure your party is full of clannies before you start the festival. Even if the member is afk.... the more you have in there when you win... the more points you get. Do not invite random people in unless you don't mind letting them get away with 100 points. If they can help you win that is fine... but i'd much rather stick a buffer or something instead to take as much points as I can!

What is good without evil? What is fair without foul?

Carebear!! j/k
you have to have one to balance the other. If we didnt, then how would we know what each one was? How would you know what good is if you didnt have something to compare it with?

USC
There is no light without the dark after all.

And LC I didn't mean tracking how often someone died, I meant more like if you lost 20+ points within a small time period it would set off alarms.

Not sure how often clan members check their points. But it could just be done when clan members aren't on..noone would know.

As I said though (and as Blood pointed out), its a slow way to gain points.

Smookie, there are clans on your server and others that DO value honor and sportsmanship. That is a low tactic I agree, but when you engage in a 2 way war you run that risk.

There are ways to fight your enemies and minimize clan risks.

I find it to be one of the more interesting aspects of L2, that griefing, cheating, poor sportsmanship, and dishonor are not only available modes of self-expression, but yield such rewards. And yet when given the same choices and opportunities, there are people who insist on honor, discipline, reputation and sportsmanship and of their own free will make the choice to succeed in a way that provides a sense of accomplishment.

Your clan has always stood for those beliefs and you should know that there is quite a large group of us who are playing the game that way and catching up, albeit slowly, to the clans and players that have no where to go/grow.

Keep the faith.

That said, I think what was done was low, but not "illegal." Via recruitment and war policies the point loss could have been prevented.

Best of luck!

The support is so behind the times on this one. :) On Teon, transfering the CRPs in this manner is not only common, in at least two cases I know of (Salvation/Hekate -> RedSeal and Illuminati -> Qlimax) it was also used while buying a clan hall, bypassing the usual auction system, to transfer the CRPs to the new bought clan name.

'Reputation points are not meant to be "transferred" from clan to clan.' - yeah, right. :)

Couldn't have put it in words better then this.

bypassing the usual auction system,

Let me guess, clan leadership transfer?

Correct.

Well, everyone demanded this. No big surprise.
I'm too lazy to go for the quote but...

"lol no way someone would go through the hassle of transfering leadership to buy CH".

I seem to remember something like that.

And I say again: What'd I say?

You didn't wait for my reply. The simple answer is to delete all accounts involved in the xfer of points. Also, all related accounts (same credit card, same owner) should be banned. If the clan leader is involved, then the clan is disbanded.

The clan that got the points should be stripped of all reputation points, assuming there is anything left of the clan after the banning. This would put them back to level 5.
Hmm sorry I don't understand all these links between selling a CH and transfering clan leadership. Anyone with one more neuron can help?:)

Back in C3, a big alliance on Teon (let's call it "Exile") founded a lot of sub-clans, both to have the space for their members and to try and hog all or most of the strategically important clan halls, like those in Aden, so their enemies wouldn't be able to use them. They largerly succeed; let's call one of those semi-clans "RedSeal".

Now, in C5, such big alliances have to split into smaller ones; the clans can grow bigger instead. Our "Exile" splits off into "Exile", "RS1" and "RS2", among other things, and tries to throw off some of the mostly useless semi-clans like "RedSeal". They also seem to need some funding, so they're looking into a possibility to sell one or more of their clan halls, only to "friendly" or at least neutral clans of course.

Let's call one of those clans "Salvation", which tries to grow together with a sub-clan from pre-C5 days also (called "Hekate") - but this little detail doesn't have much to do with our current little story about clan halls and clan leadership transfer.

So, the key members of "Salvation" transfer to "RedSeal", a lot(!) of adena (and possibly other things) changes hands, then the clan leadership of "RedSeal" changes to one of the ex-"Salvation" members. Ready is a sold clan hall, bypassing the auction system.

The only problem left is ... "Salvation" (as well as "Hekate") had some clan reputation points, which the new "RedSeal" would like to get for themselves, of course. So the real characters transfer over to "RedSeal", which declares (two-ways) wars on both "Hekate" and "Salvation". In the following days, you can see a lot of low-level characters with the old clans' tags getting killed over and over again just outside of the newbie villages (Do you want to see screen shots? :)).
Wow, I didn't know all of that. Good to know. Nobody tells me anything :(

Sometimes, it helps to simply ask - HUMINT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HUMINT) at its best. :)

I don't claim to be 100% correct, BTW, but this little story is close enough to the "real deal" to serve as an example how clan leadership transfer as well as clan reputation points farming are working on the NA/EU servers.
Ouch ouch my head.
Thanks a lot for that story.
But, it was just luck they had reputation points, wasn't it?
I guess most clan who merged with others in early C5 didn't have points.

The "reputation points transfer" part of the story is actually wholly independent from the "clan hall buying with the help of clan leadership transfer" part.

And CRPs are easy to come by, even for a small clan - we already managed to gather more than 15k since the beginning of C5, and it was mostly just through the Academy graduates.
Must have been alot of alts, thats 37+ graduates, heh.

Over 8000 CRPs from graduates alone, half of them alts, the other half real newbies. The rest we got from the clan boss being Hero and two sieges.
