I know am new here, but why can this game have a controlled market system? I'm a lev40+ warlord for the time been...I'm still using D grade which is ok with me. I just got a C grade pole. But I only got this pole because a clan member was nice to sell it to be for 1/2 the price. But why can L2 have a controlled market system?
Don't get me wrong is a good feeling when you hunt for mats and you craft your items. ( I carted a shield & glove ) But the prices on some of the stuff is just LOCO .lol
If this topic was posted, I'm very sorry but im new to the game.
I know am new here, but why can this game have a controlled market system?
You mean why can't it have one, right?
Let me ask you the same question, just changed to different game mechanics ...
Why does this game need the grind? Wouldn't it be better if everyone was top level with a good equipment from the start?
Why does this game need open PvP? Wouldn't it be better if you couldn't attack other characters unless their players wanted it?
Why does this game need 3D graphics? It would (some say, does *cough* *cough*) work as well in 2D, wouldn't it?
The answer to all those questions, including the one you posted, is the same: Omitting this element from the game would make it less fun to a significant portion of the current game population.
This is a player controlled market, the problem is the players get greedy. Personally, i like the idea of a group of dwarfs getting together to set the price.

Why shouldn't they...After all they are dwarf.
I don't think me and a bunch of my buddies setting the SSD price to 20a across the server counts as "controlled market" to the OP. :)

No, I dont want to have one, dude. All im asking is why not? would it change verything so bad or would it help it?
to much power over something is not a good thing, you can see it on Bart shop's everyday. Someone was selling Dss 16a in HC last night...
Would it bother you if the PvP was controlled so that people input the class they want to duel and the game determines the outcome?
Would you prefer if you just key in the amount of mobs you want to try to pole and have the game 'control' the output?
Sounds a bit odd, doesn't it?
Same to the market.
No is not the same as the market dude..the market is everything in this game with what i read in the forums and let me tell you im reading it all. but i guess i dont know what im talking about....control the market and you control the ebuyers...well my 2c.
First: After level 40, if you aren't a BH you don't get a party. Or rarely get a party unless you have an OOP healer/buffer with you, or you have a great alliance that helps their dwarves out before helping the rest of their members.
Second: While lower level recipes are fairly easy to come by, the higher level recipes are not. Some recipes cost over 120mil. They are not easy to get. They aren't simply given to higher level crafters (most of the time anyways, not all the time).
Having a controlled market would reduce warsmiths to a nothing class that no one would play. Those of us who have WS mains will tell you, it ain't easy being one. They take hard work, perseverance, and a lot of skill in playing the market to succeed as a WS or a BH. Let us dwarves make our money, too. While we may have all the "money making" skills in the game, we also have the highest cost per level. We do the least damage of any melee class, we have very few skills that affect the outcome of PvE, and we have no native healing or mass damage skills. Everything for us is shots and pots. So, DSS for 16a is a bargain since you can';t craft it yourself.

L2 does have a controlled market system at the levels you play (D-grade except top weapons and set-completing armor items; low-to-mid C-grade armor except set-completing items; C-grade weapons except top ones; for top D and C weapons, the only factor not directly controled by NPC shops is the cost of Ancient Adena). As long as you can live without enchanted stuff, that is.

Yes you right, but what would be so bad as to not let player control the market? a set price for everything. I never play a dorf but it look like im going to need one..but i just dont get what would chage so bad if the player dint have control over the market?

It won't work.
And even if it worked, it wouldn't help you at all, because, as you said, you don't have enough money to buy items for the prices already controlled by NPCs.
Best advise I can give is to play the game as intended join a clan and work together in gearing your characters out.
It is tough to be in the graded gear your skill allows to be in, for your first toon. Prices are tough in most of the old servers cause of twinks and the external economy.
Nope. I control my prices right now. There are some minimums already in place, but I am glad there are no maximums. It would not allow me to be able to level with any urgency.

Yes, yes... it is, missy. The market is a big part of the game, and that's how it should be - you can't just cut it off because you don't like it any more than I can cut off the PvP, or any more than jkoster can get his EXP for RPing. That's not how the game works.
If you think making things easy would stop ebayers, you are sorely mistaken. Ebayers don't cheat because it's hard, they cheat because they are lazy.
Controlled Market System is for people who don't want to work hard for what they have, people who want things to be easy. Best advise, go play WoW or something.
D grade at level 40 is all good. Just don't look at the rich people around who are often either not legit, or old players who fought their way to fortune.
I don't think the game was designed so that someone lvl 40 could afford top C grade, but probably top D grade around lvl 40, top C around 52, etc... Else they wouldnt have bothered making all these intermediate equipements.
And look at mobs, the mobs dropping top D grade are lvl 40ish. In C1 we saw many people lvl 40+ in Brig, mithril, manticore (I even remember a SR lvl 50+ in manticore).
Do you see prophets in brig nowadays? I think not :/
