Trial of Challenger

I am now a lvl 35 DE PK and I'm working on the Trial of Challenger quest for the 2nd job change quests. I've gone through the motions of killing Shylassys, Gorr and Barham and have been directed to Dwarven town to speak with Filaur but he pretty much to go away and to train myself? Am I missing something?
So basically I need to go and hit lvl 36 to get on the next step? Even though it doesn't say such in the write up at Stratics.
Stratics is no official guide, it can contain errors.

The general tip for anyone doing these quests is to lvl to 40 then do them all. Easy as higher lvl, must be 40 to change class anyway, can use C-Grade at 40 if its avalible! (makes the quests very easy)
It actually says that on the main list of second class quests:

The 2nd class change quests are done in 3 parts. Usually you do the first one at level 35, the second at level 37, and the last at level 39. And then when you hit level 40 you can be your new class and learn skills, etc. We recommend waiting until you are 39 and then doing all three of your quests at the same time because many of the areas between the quests overlap and it will save you a lot of time. Also you should note that you cannot complete each quest until you are one lever higher than what is required for starting. i.e. The level 35 quest cannot be completed until you are level 36. Another reason to do them all at level 39.

I believe I've noted that in the quests I've written but so very very few people write guides, and even less do them at a lower level just to see where the cut off point is.
hrm... I didn't see that... thanks for pointing that out for me :-)
No prob, I tried to do my quests soon as I hit 35 so I could see where it tells you to get 36 or 38 but sometimes people just level too fast :)
To add to what everyone already said (since I start them at 35 as well):
1st quest: start at 35, can only be finished at 36
2nd quest: start at 37, can only be finished at 38
3rd quest: start at 39, can be finished at 39.

I always start them at 35. It breaks the monotony of the grind, and generally if you do them at the appropriate levels the mob killing is worth more XP/SP than at 40

To add to what Elro said:

Generally, the class change quests have 2 parts.

Go to one guy, run his 10 million errands, go back to him, he sends to to the next guy.

For the 35 & 37 quests, that next guy is going to want you to be 36 & 38,respectively.
The whole setup makes perfect sense though... it makes it more progressive in the "evolutionary" process. I started at 35 because I wanted to get the most exp out of it instead of waiting til 40... not only that... when I roll over to 40 I want to be in my 2nd job change right then and there instead of hassling with it when I could have started at 35. I can imagine the 2nd part of the first quest might grind me through a good part of 36 to reach the succubuses down in the mithril mines. I have a habit of clearing everything from point a to point b to max out my exp grind time and to gather mats and adena to sell/buy/trade for better things although I already have my +7 Spirit/Raid and full set of Full plate armor waiting for me when I get C grade :-) I just gotta figure out what I want for my B grade sets... I'm thinking Blue Wolf Heavy for the Haste factor (although I am eyeballing Zubei's heavy set for the HP/P Def boosts). Combine that with Tsu/SLS +4 dual and Dance of fire at B grade... I can only imagine how devastating that could be. Yes I do like to solo as much as I can because I find grouping to be slower exp due to people AFKing, PVPing, PKing or generally BSing in parties.
I've always tried to wait until 40 but I just can't, I need to get those things over with at the earliest opportunity :)

Ditto. First class change begins the instant I hit 19. I don't even wait until the end of a buff round. Similarly, I do the second class quests the instant I hit the appropriate level. I simply cannot wait.
Heh I understand that feeling Ellie :-) btw... ty all for your reesponses :-)
Yeah I should have put a disclaimer in the guide, but as Ellie says some people don't do the quest until they are 40 (that would include me ;)) and as a result I wouldn't receive any indication that I had to be 36,38,39 to finish the relevant quest.
For melees (only done this with my BD so far) I think you should start at lvl 36 to get the new skills and so that you can complete the first quest straight through.
I started the Trial of the Challenger quest Wed., solo, so
far so good. This morning, halfway down the Mithril Mines I ran
out of time and had to leave for work! So I left squashu in a safe
place, no mobs around, and exited. Anyone know how much
further down the Succubus Queen is? I am where the Iron Ore
Golems start appearing.

Yeah I hear that, I recently did it again while writing the quest guide and it cost me something like 700k to port everywhere.

wanted to let you all know when I started the quest with Kash
I was given 61 Dimensional Diamonds. This has helped alot
with porting :) Since I did some running, and paying for short
trips during the discount times I still have 43 left!

The guides on Stratics and WrathoftheJust are priceless and
invaluable to a player like me, many thanks!
It took me about a buff round to get all the way down there.
It's all the way at the bottom. From recollection, if you are at the golems then it is not much further. You'll already have dropped down the large pit with the two ledges so you are virtually at the bottom.

Remember to talk to the bloke who appears after you kill the succubus. ;)
Thanks Elrohir, so about 20 minutes, I should be getting close.

Thank you Hammered!

wow you should of played on kain, You'd not have those problems with me.

I only go AFK when I need a drink or RR. other wise I'm there man.

I always level to 40 and do all three quests simultaneously. I grab all the steps and drop them into a spreadsheet. I then just move them about so that I can plot a path.

Now that we get the dimension diamonds at the start of the quests, I buy any town scrolls that I need and voila.

If I didn't do so many (my gf and I have over 30 2nd class-changed toons) then I'd do them the proper way, but I just like to get them over and done with as fast as possible. Using this method allowed me to do an SE 2nd class change in just over 3 hours recently.
I was successful finishing Trial of the Challenger. What helped
most was that the Succubus Queen was in a huge room, the
entrance into it looked like daylight from a distance. Then when
I crossed a stone bridge I would be there, so I just watched for
the stone bridge.

Now I'm starting the Test of Glory . Is the northern area
of the Ivory Tower Pit very dangerous? Have to kill Manashen
Gargoyle there. Then Tyrant of the Wastelands and Guardian
Basilisk in Death Pass, I think I'll be ok dealing with those.

Oh, and I got more Dimensional Diamonds from Vokian :)
Tyrants and Basilisks are OK, though I got a feeling those basilisks stun. But you should be OK, they go down pretty fast.
Manashen gargoyles are tricky sometimes, they stun and hit pretty hard. But with buffs and occasional potion it is not nightmare. Also ask local Prophet or SE for Resist Wind and Mental Shield buffs, it comes in handy as around gargoyles are plenty of eyeballs throwing windstrikes and Slow.

(In case you are going BD you may want to hunt those eyeballs though, they drop Hex spellbook)

IT pit isn't too bad. Manashen Gargoyles are not aggro but do stun and are social but are usually spread out enough to be easy enough to do. As noted the Enchanted Monster Eye's are the only aggro on that half of the pit you have to be careful about. The have a ranged windstrike and 200 run speed so you cannot run away. If you do get aggro from one, just run up and beat them down. Hopefully you have some healing pots if you are low on HP from killing the manashen. None of the Golems are aggro down in the pit so you can safely ignore those.

Eventually your going to have to go to HV and kill some Tamlin Orcs, and those will be tough. They aren't aggro, but are social w/some archers. Thankfully they are usually fairly well spread out, although you may have to pick and choose a bit if they bunch up. And if I recall, you will have to kill a few Timak's as well. This is probably the hardest as there are so **** many Troop leaders in that area now. Avoid them like the plague. They are not only aggro but they summon a fighter/archer/mage combo when you hit the leader. Just find a spot with only a few regular Timak's and maybe a soldier or two. Directly west of the Crossroads to HV is usually ok for this. The Soldiers are aggro, and all Timaks are social, but they shouldn't be too much more difficult than the Tamlin.

And those should be the last "hard" mobs you need to kill I think.
Thank you very much PainAmp and Crawl for the detailed
answers! Helps alot since I might be soloing this quest.
