hi, i can't figure out where to get a grade recipes like dark crystal boots, gloves and helm. i saw that dark crystal leather shirt and leggings recipes can be gotten by the giants cave explor. quest, but i can't find out where they drop.
They do drop and spoil, however they have poor rates for drop and spoil.
The DC helm spoils from Alpen Buffalo up at the beast farm, you need to level the buffalo to the 4xHP mage version first though. My clan has been working on spoiling one of these recipes for three weeks and no luck so far.
The gloves recipe is a drop from punishment of splendor or pilgrim of splendor in the Valley of Saints area.
The boots recipe spoils from the 2xHP melee version of the Alpen Buffalo.
Good luck on these, you need a very dedicated BH to get them as none of them spoil or drop at a very good rate.
Pretty sure we have been using golden spice, we must just e incredibly unlucky in our spoils. Weird though cause we have done well with every other recipe we have gone after.

DC boots recipe both drops and spoils but much easier as a spoil, it drops from either of the 2xHP versions of Alpen Kookaburra but very rarely.

These recipes are darn near impossible to get if you're on Gustin though because of the farmer clans that are up there. They PK any party that comes near with a BH :( Evidently they think they are the only ones that should have access to them.

I would suggest you double check that. I have spoiled two Tallum helm recipes from the melee 4x buffalo using golden spice. I have screen shots of it as well. I have never been able to spoil the DC helm recipe though. It's been over a month now. All I get is thons and BW boot designs.
In fact, now that I think about it, I haven't spoiled any of the A grade armour recipes at the beast farm since the last patch. I had spoiled quite a few before that. Maybe our server is just broken :P

Okay, I don't know what it is, but I finally got the DC helm rec to spoil (and yes it was from a mage buffalo). Previously we were having our clan SK pull and feed the buffaloes and I couldn't get that to spoil for the life of me. After switching to myself doing the feeding, I got it in two sessions. That seems like really odd behaviour to me. I also got the Tallum helm rec the following day. Again, I was the one doing the feeding. Is there something that get's messed up if you have someone else feed the beastie? That's kinda a rhetorical question as I'm sure there is no "official" answer to it ;)
No, it doesn't matter who feed the mobs, I have never played up there alone, always had at least one friend up there helping me kill and grow the mobs.
Since the OP got his/her answer, I need info on how to get NM helm rec drop. I know it's most likely harder than spoil but all I need is 1 and hopefully a successful build. Thanks.
Nightmare helm recipe drops from a 2x cougar and spoils from a 4x cougar at the beast farm. What spice and what version (melee or mage) I can't answer as I haven't attempted to get that one yet. Though it's proabably just a matter of time, I've spoiled the other three already.
NM Helm rec drops from the 2xHP mage version of the Alpen Cougar (good luck with that...super hard to get as a drop). It spoils from the 4xHP mage version of the cougar. Golden spice should be used.
TheMoo the lv of the one feeding have no role in it at all, only things hwo affect what monster you get is food type more or less.
If that's the case, then I must be the most unlucky, but stubborn, bounty hunter because I went a full month without getting DC helm rec (or Tallum for that matter)
You positive you're using golden spice not crystal?
The buffalos that spoil DC helm should also be spoiling Thons and BW Boot Design; the ones that spoil Tallum helm should also be spoiling Doom Helmet Pattern and Crafted Leather. If you're not getting those spoils, you're not on the right monsters.
My clan's BHs have spoiled at least nine helmet recipes at beast farm. PleChan is right, nothing affects the spoil except melee vs. mage, and golden vs. crystal. The bounty hunter's level plays a role as if the mobs are too high, he'll have a hard time landing spoil, and too low and the penalty for blue monsters will reduce the chances.
