It Is so hard.
I was full of ewd and try make adena enchanting brigandine armor.
I lost all to +5.
I will never try enchant over +4 again.
This is sad.
A tip: only enchant items that you can loose.
I cant imagine how some1 make a +16 item.
Is need try 13 time with 30% loose chance.
Very very hard.
I almost got my zubei leather gaiters to +6.. wasn't really upset though, I did buy them cheap. It's the only armor I ever tried to OE, so not a bad first try.
best luck i've had Oe'ing anything is late at night when no one is on, and after u blow up 1 thing... go for broke on the next one. I use cheap d jewelry as a buffer for high grade weapon enchants. enchant a jewelry item till it blows, then + up your weapon. Only 1 a day though, being greedy never pays ^^
does armor have the same OE rate as weapons in L2?
According to NCSoft in the tips when logging in, yes.

You realize this doesn't work, right? It may make you feel better to blow cheap stuff up first, but it won't affect the odds when trying to OE the expensive stuff.
Yes, the blowing up cheap stuff doesnt afects the next enchant. But statisticaly the more you blow stuff the more chances you have to make something in the end.
That's like flipping a coin and saying I got heads 10 times in a row I have a better chance now of getting tails, when it's 50% each toss no matter what.

Absolutely....CORRECT. (At proving his point.)
If it is truly a 50% result, the chance of getting 11 identical results in a ROW is NOT the same as each toss. (That chance would be .5^10!)
The farther you go from an 'ideal' 50% result, the more likely a 'streak' becomes. At 50% however, a long streak should be quite rare, simply because you have a 50% chance to break it on each roll. (Distribution and Sample size.)
IF a long 'streak' is frequent....then the chance is NOT 50%. You may have only two possible results in that case, but the chance of one result over the other is definately not 50%.
l2 wh.com has statistics of OEing with a real high sample (1k + ). It also shows a calculation statistically proving Weapon is indeed 2/3rd 99% sure and Armour 50%, 99% sure. However if you check the statistics per level of enchant you can notice a HUGE drop of success against fail ratio at 4 to 5 and 5 to 6.
I notice this myself too; I spent about 350m adena in EAB and 2m boot/gloves 8m helmets to get my BW Light set to +6 (and the body to +7).
So far I find Lineage 1's system mentioned in a few posts above mine to be more fitting.
There was a post concerning this a while back.
It covered 2 issues.
1. A guy in korea enchanted 1500+ items D,C ad B grade (both armor and weapon). If i remember correctly he had an enchant rate at 64% on weapons and 56% on armor (Not 100% sure, but very close)
2. How enchant rates are calculated, and how often they fail. What they said was that L2 uses a random generator to "throw a dice" it could be something like this: 1.0.1.0.1.0.1.1.0.1.1.0.1.0.... Where 1 is true and 0 is false and the sequence is shared for the entire server. (that means someone else could get the enchant after a break and you end up with another break).
In any given sequence the "false" shows up at a given % of the sequence. This sequence is randomly generated every time the server restarts and could consist of many thousand numbers. This type of random generator is a commonly used tool when it comes to True/False. The possibility of 0 showing up more than once in a row is very unlikely ( but may happen), and 3 in a row extremely unlikely (Read: close to never). This is at 60/40.
Although this supports the enchant till something break theory, it is NOT the fact. There could be one sequence for every grade, or every single item for all we know, and you never have a guarantee that someone else is not enchanting at the same time, hence it is not possible to calculate when it's gonna break or when it's gonna enchant safely.
This is not my personal theory, but what I remember from that post. I will try to find it, but guess how many hits you get in different L2 forums when you search for "enchanting"
Hope this information helped a bit, or at least didn't confuse too much
Most random generators have a certain seed; if you start the randomizing with the same seed the sequence will alwayas be the same, this is handy when developing software. I doubt they make real complicated things; in the end the programmer will choose the easiest most effective way and thats a simple: bFailed=random(100)+iChance<0; or something alike.
I don't really believe in far-fetched solutions (some are amusing, like going to the church and buffing yourself aqua resist-1). I do think however they adjust "iChance" on the enchant level, but that will always be guesswork and not really relevant for us gamers. All you have to know that its hard to OE armour :)

I made a +6 Brig Set (+6 Helmet, +6 Breastplate, +7 Gaiters) Was saving it for an Orc re-roll one day, but if you really want to purchase it, I'd consider selling.
Enchanting armor only seems difficult. The luck will swing in your direction eventually.
I got my Plate Leather tunic to +6 easily. Not so easy with the bottoms. The first pair of gaiters broke attempting +6. The second pair broke attempting +4. The third pair of gaiters made it to +6.
I'll probably try the boots this weekend...after I finish crafting a back-up pair.
After this is all said and done, the bonus is probably not even worth it. But considering I use the PL Set on both my AW and HE, might as well get the most out of it.
I just enchanted +5 full plate. But your right, there is always a risk. You have to be prepared to sacrifice whatever item you are willing to oe. I do wish though that someone would post a real ratio of success, or chances of success on items. I've never seen one, all I know is its a 1 in three chance at failure, which means 2 in 3 of success. 66%
The possibility of 0 showing up more than once in a row is very unlikely ( but may happen), and 3 in a row extremely unlikely (Read: close to never). This is at 60/40.
That's very poorly random then.
At a 60/40 chance, you'd expect one zero to be followed by a second zero 40% of the time, and followed by two more zeroes 16% of the time.
Most likely, L2 uses a linear congruential generator, which is very simple to implement (it's the default rand() command in most C/C++ implementations) but it's also a terrible source of randomness. Even worse, modulus operations which are the most common way to get a random in a given range are strongly affected by low-order bits, which are the least random.
A mersenne twister is almost as rapid to generate numbers and far more random; it will actually pass randomness tests while the LCG will fail pretty much any test of randomness.

I got messed too lol, see my thread "Enchanting" a bit down.. It happens. I want to enchant again but will only do it once I get a FIRM grasp on money.
The L2 random generator seems pretty bad. Among other things lag seems to affect it. Once when I had heavy lag I managed to roll seven 1's in a row with my L2 dice. After that I got a 3 and then another four 1's before my dice returned to normal. I'm not entirely sure if it was the lag but it sure was freaky :D

I don't think lag effects enchants though. I did an enchant once and waited for either the swoosh of victory or the clang of defeat. Nothing happened for about 10 seconds...lag. Then the enchant took successfully. My guess is the results were instantaneous the minute I clicked on the weapon. It just took longer for it to register on my monitor because of the lag. The person who was standing next to me saw the change in glow to flames before I did.
im pretty **** sure OE jewelry and armor is a lot harder then weps. and it also seems it gets harder the higher the OE is.
I made a elven jewelry set to +5 once, (3 pollen events back) and in the end I used 200 EAD scrolls to succed. 200 for 5 items to +5. im not sure what % that is but ****, its not much! about 12-13%?? >.<
im glad EAD only where 20k each back then.

Heh... I just tested this on several random generators, and you are right, the most failed in a row i got was stunningly 7!
I never tested this theory, just took for granted what that post said. It was very nicely written, and no one proved it false during 6 pages.
guess we all could throw away that theory then...
