Just made class transfer to SO and I am trying to figure out how best to to bolster my defense . I keep getting in over my head with aggros and am toast in seconds. weapons? robes? skills?
Also-- what buffs can I use on my self?
Unfortunatly you dont get much in defense.
You have to stick with robes.
As a new SO you wil have to move from nuking to purely support.
You can still nuke your way to lvl 24 or 25 by hunting the mobs right outside dion (bears). They are non agro and dont think they are social. You will probably want to upgrade your weapon to a D weapon.
As you lvl you will get more buffs. Sheild is prerrty much the only thing defense wise but it wont really help. As I mentioned before, your role as a SO will be support. Your not supposed to be killing and soloing anymore. Once your lvl 25 you can find yourself a nice fighter in need of buffs and let him do the killing.
Idealy you will want the elven mithril robe set. This set gives you extra mana and increases your casting speed. As for weapons, it depends on yoru budget. You could stick with your no grade weapon if youll only be support for now. Or get a uber nuker weapon to try to solo undead (nuking) or get yourself a nice pair of toop D duals (107s) to get ina few hits while you duo with that fighter I mentioned before.
I solo'd to 35ish with duals and robes, on the bears/eyes/wolves outside of Dion. After that a mage weapon works well but you should have little trouble getting into groups.
You herd em solo to 40 !

Ive leveled a 2 clerics and 1 Se from 20-40 and Ive always done it with a duo with the same fighter day after day with 107s in cats. I tried soloing the Elven oracle by nuking undead but.... I dont know it just seemed so slow.
To the OP, these people are smart:p invest some skill points in destroy undead, find spots with undead and with pots. When I tried it pots didnt exist.... so it was painfully slow.
Invest in a good mage weapon with a high m.atck, and eventually upgrade your robes.
Actually thats how my wife leveled her SE way back. EG and DV were still great spots and with a nice weapon+empower (you provide that yourself)+shots you'll be doing very well against the mobs there. At 40 you can get a bunch of coins too of some of them and there's a quest as well right outside DEV and a quest in EG, both of those gives nice extra funding for you.
Hm I "nuked" till like 36-36. Then, when I was not in party, I smacked mobs, using Manticore and 107s. If things went wrong, I rooted mob, healed myself and kept going.
But it was either long and boring not using soulshots, or expensive when using them :-/
Another thing to do is go to Heretics’ and shout “SO lfg” and you should get picked up in like 30sec. and after you start getting crap XP there move to the next level Necro or cata.

Exactly, SO/SE are still in high demand in the Necro and Cata because herbs don’t drop there and melee guys love VR.
