I am one of the few people that actually has chosen to go for a TK as my main class after unfortunately getting scammed on my old main char and having to go back to an old elven knight i had (main char was a 41 HE). Right now i am approaching 40 and more and more of the people of my clan have started to say things like:
-As a friend i really think you are making a misstake choosing TK
-LE:s are gimps no matter what class they are
-For your own sake do not go TK
Since i have allready rerolled once from 40 i really don't want to have to do it again, but personally i feel like i have made the right decision. I want to play a melee character that is fun to play with and that has something to offer groups (i am not really the solo kind of guy, i much more prefer playing with people). I know that tanks will always be needed no matter what and in all games they are fun to play, and i felt that a tank would fit me since it fits the criteria of what i want to play (aswell as i have always wanted to play a game where you where a master swordsman, and this statement is true for both TK and SwS). The reason i left SwS as something i would like to play was because of the whole 2 min buffs, and the fact that its really only good in archer/dagger groups (aswell as the fact that we have 3-4 active BD:s so mana cost will go through the roof if i party with them).
But the more i level, the more people tell me not to play tk, and i am starting to question wether its me thats beeing stubborn and choosing wrong, or if there is any truth in what they are saying. I see TK:s and SwS:s as equal classes with equal possibilities in Pve/Pvp other than that TK continues getting Tank attributes and skills, and the SwS gets the ability to sacrifice everything to become half a DD.
Don't listen to people, that's all I gotta say. Seriously when you get even at top level, 77+, people gripe about ALL classes. A stormscreamer gripes about his class, a soultaker whines about his,etc etc... seriously just play what you want to play.
The only answer is play the class you WANT TO PLAY no matter what people is, most people would say sws is a better class but TK is a very good (and rare if you like to be unique) class.
Its just that in the end when people tell you this over and over you start to wonder. I truly believe there is no bad class, and since i have chosen to be a tank, pvp is not something i will shine in. So why go some tank/dd/buffer like SwS and tell yourself you are better off since u did not go tank ? :/
Oh well, people are idiots, life goes on, and i will be happy as a tank (me with my prophet, a dwarf with a pole and a shilien oracle and another friend of mine just had fun in Heretics today, me tanking and them pole-arming the mobs to death, and i must say it was extremely fun, and all i got to use so far is the aggro skill and UD from time to time ^^).
There is nothing wrong with a TK. While they don't have the offensive capabilities as an SK or DA, or the self healing ability of a Paladin, they are quite probably the best PvE tanks in the game. Interlude will hopefully help them out with a new cubic.
So I say go for it and have fun. Just remember that you don't do much damage, if at all, although you get defensive skills out the wazoo.
Yeah mate!! Go for it. Atleast you will be great for any party. Not only dagger/archer as you self said it. What i heard ppl say and as someone already said here: The TK is the best PvE tank in the game and highest shield defence rate aswell if i understood this right.
We have a tk in clan, and he has been hero since her started....He doesnt win every fight, but wins more than he loses, and as far as i can see, thats all u need to be worthwhile:-)
Plus, for raids and tough lvling spots, ain't no tank better. I only ever died with him when he wa on sws sub, so make of that what you want......

im pretty sure there has never been a 77 soultaker that complained about their class
play whatever you want man but tk is prolly the only class in game that can argue they are more nerfed than dwarves
