I roll with Zubei, still at 63 I use Zubei and will use it till im 76 I think if I manage to +6 my set for the m.def bonus and evasion bonus. It's really all you need, most classes you'll run into will be a nuker or an archer, so having those 2 bonuses only seems logical. You can + your CON and DEX with dyes. I'm doing for a -STR +DEX and +CON setup soon. But thats me, I want as much evasion as possible, and as much m.def as possible.
I ran into an equal level BD (suprise! not a nuker or archer)a week ago who jut had a hell of a time trying to hit me.
All of the B and A grade light armors look suspect. I hate that mage classes get essentially the same great robe bonus choices at every level, but the melee classes get good armor bonuses at some grades and terrible armor choices at others.
If you would want to go for BG Light, Zubei and BW comes to mind.
I don't see the merits of BW Light based on the bonus. Please explain.
Zubei gives +4 Evasion. But I have SE buffs and VR at all times. At C and B grade, I can't think of any mobs that would make me want to increase my evasion. The bonus is ok, but weighing that against +4 STR of Plate Leather, I'd have to pick the PL set...for the same reasons why I chose it over Mith Set, Drake, etc.
Yep, looks like I'll stick with the PL. Too bad the designers didn't create a B grade version of this armor. Sigh. :(

Yeah, when I get to A grade and PVP, I'll definitely shelve the Plate Leather Set. I see quite a few daggers running around in heavy armor at A grade. Imagine that.
I'm not disliking my Doom light that much, though I'll be happier in DC (assuming I can succeed the crafts).
I went up to Doom because I group semi-infrequently and was getting my *** handed to me in PL at lv52. But I can always get my PL back I sold it to a friend cheap and he still has it.
Finally made it to 52 last night on the AW. Went to Schuttgart, EV, and Outlaw Forest to compare the PL and LAOD sets to see if maybe I was wrong about LAOD.
The goods:
LAOD: +6 top/bottom, +3 boots, gloves & sky
PL Set: +6 top, +6 bottom, +4 boots, +3 Doom gloves & sky
+10 Kris
+5 STR, +4 DEX, -9 CON
(Before anyone comments, this is a solo PVE DD build with a buffbot to complement...designed purely to level quickly. Not trying to PVP with this setup or tank a raid boss. :))
What I like about the Doom is the speed with which I get to the mobs and the attack speed. The extra pdef was noticeable, but with VR my HP never drops below 75% in PL anyway with multiple aggro...so I considered that a wash. There wasn't a significant difference in the number of crits, despite the +3 DEX that LAOD gives.
Primarily because of the SE buffs, the PL more than holds it's own. I deliver much more damage per hit, which made for more XP at the end of a buff round then with LAOD.
Yep, I'm sticking with the PL Set. At least until A grade.
We'll take up this discussion again next week when I get to 61, where the two options will be Tallum Heavy (because I already have it) and DC Light (because I only need to craft the gaiters to complete that set).
By the way, Maline, from another post which I'm too lazy to search for...
I can confirm that with Demon Set and a sufficiently OE'd weapon, a mage can 2 shot White and Green mobs without Empower at level 60+ using Death Spike. With Blessed shots, of course. Took the SH out on a stroll last night with a +14 Homu that I recently made (176 m.atk -- a bit more m.atk than a +5 SOM) and didn't need the SE buffs. In fact, with Shadow Flare, I could one shot quite a few of the greens in VOS, Forbidden Gateway and the Devestated Castle areas.
