is there any other armour that maybe better and look a lot better...thanks
Well, in my opinon, if you're in an academy, get someone in the main clan to sponsor you and get clan armor. If you're not in a clan, the BEST armor for you would be Brigadine, but if you can't afford that then stick with what you have and get the whole set. (Mithril breastplate, gaiters, helmet, and hoplon).
Like Ryath said.
Brigandine would be the best, but it is horrible expensive, if you want to buy the hole set to get the set bonus.
I recommend Mithril Set. It works fine too and the hole set is cheaper than a Brigandine Helmet ;)
The armor doesn't really matter very much for quite some time.
I think brig (without that ridiculous helmet) is a fine set of armor. Just don't spend adena for brig boots and gloves (that's for suckers).
Obviously the brig SET is terrific for your class (note: the set completes WITHOUT dumb, erm...brig boots and gloves!).
Mithril Heavy is alos a fine set of heavy armor and completes with a store-bought hoplon shield! That makes it cheap and relatively competent.
I've leveled a number of melee toons past 30 with Mithril heavy..which might allow you to put extra adena saved toward a better weapon!
There is a LOT more variation is D-grade weapons (from top to bottom) than in D-grade armors. You should buy the best weapon you can afford (buy from weapon shop in giran or another player if they are selling for less--then buy aa as cheaply as you can and trade at mammon for els). Sword of Revolution is about 1.8 million in Giran, 480,000 aa at 3 each is another 1.44 million. For about 3.25 million you can get an els. Note, even if aa sells at 4 each, it's 1.92 million plus 1.8 million for SoR which brings els 'price' up to 3.7 mill----a LOT less than paying another player 4.8-5.5 million for their els!!!!!!
Rather obviously if you can get 10-50k aa on your own you can lower this price quite a bit and also worth your time to look around in case there are any honest players left who might be selling their 'old' sword of revolution for 1.25 million or something! You have to be stingy in this game and if you can cut down on hte creation cost for that els you absolutely want to invest the time to do so!
I'd say if you can 'spend' anywhere around 3 million or a bit more to get an els on most servers you've done pretty well!
The best D-grade heavy armor is Half-Plate. It looks better than Brig, and on female characters, it really looks nice. It is rare and expensive tho. I would wager you have never seen it in any shop, as folks who have it, generally keep it, forever. You cannot buy it in an NPC shop; it is drop/craft only.
That said, you can boost your P-Def by getting better boots; Boots of Power are the standard, low-cost, D-grade boots (92k at current crystal prices.) P-def would go up by 5 over Blue Bucks.
RIP Gauntlets should cost about the same, and would boost P-Def another 5.
Getting a Helmet (D-Grade) would boost P-Def by 15. Cost should be around 95K to 100k. All three would give you 25 extra P-Def, for a cost under 300k. There are better boots/gloves/helms, but they are much more expensive.
You have another problem with you current armor; you are mixing Heavy and Light equiptment. That means you are not getting the benefit from the Heavy Armor mastery you have. I would suggest switching the Mithril Banded Gaiters for Mithril Scale or Dwarven Scale Gaiters.
I don't understand. Have I been playing in another game. I have a level 23 SK and there's no way I could afford anything that you guys are talking about. Am I missing something? The drops now are 200-230 adena. I would have to kill 8695 NPCs to get the money you are talking about. Maybe I don't understand how this is played.

Here's the long and short of money in Lineage 2. Every thing costs a Bloody lot and the adena you get from mobs is no where near enough to pay for even half of it. You have to grind your adena MORE than your levels. You know the old saying "Cheap, Good, Fast. Pick Two."? In L2 it's "Adena, XP" Pick ONE. NEVER rely on full item drops. Drop chances go down almost exponentially as your level rises.
That isn't to say it's impossible. (It isn't) It's just bloody hard. You should have been grinding those newbie quests HARD and as much as possible. You should also look at the possibility of using the manor. Never sell base materials to NPC's. Read the Player's Guide forum. Find others and work together to raise cash and craft equipment. (Truthfully you only really need to craft B grade and above though.) Many clans look for new people to join. (Academy and rep points make it worthwhile to help out new characters as much as those who already established.)
There is no item decay (durability) so you can only lose equipment by going red and dropping it or trying to overenchant and having the items crystalize. Thus once you have the item it is yours until you do something dumb or dangerous. I STILL have the D grade equip I first bought back in Prelude....and one of my money grinding alts uses it.
It takes time and some effort, but eventually you will have enough adena to get everything you need and plenty left over. (Getting to the point adena is never an issue will take MUCH longer however.) As the old saying goes, "Work Smarter, not Harder".
And besides that, unlike other games, buying equipment in L2 is recycleable. What I mean is:
You finally buy your good gear. When you grow out of that gear and need better, you don't have to scrap it! Free market is there for you and you can sell it for as much, or even more than you've bought it! Buy, use, sell for more. No money wasted. Of course not all pieces of equipment follow that rule since they are less than desireable. But those you can crystallize and sell crystals. You will always make more money in the market than if you'd sell something to NPC.
yeah, i remember back when i was in NG.
with out a clan you coulda gotten easily stuck in an endless loop (need more adena to get better weapon, need better weapon to get more adena..........)
but people are alot nicer now and richer...so you can find a good clan and they'll outfit ya's

1. There are 2 very different grinds in L2, the money and the XP grind. The money is usually the more important.
2. Ways to make money:
* Use the manor system to get craft materials, and sell them (check Giran for prices, the lower towns are always out of whack).
* Use the manor system to get craft materials, craft weapons/armor, and sell them.
* Fish at night, and sell the items you get.
* Fish at night, craft items, and sell them.
* Make a dwarf bounty hunter character, who can hunt mats and rare recipes -- the benefit here is as long as you keep him using the same grade of armor as your SK, he can share the same armor/weapon.
* Pay careful attention to the market on your server; buy items that are very cheap and resell them at a higher price.
* Certain quests like Coin of Magic (level 40+) or the Alchemy quest (55+ I think) can give full items.
* Make a warsmith and craft and sell soulshot. It's a slow but steady source of income; the bounty hunter can easily outearn the warsmith in most cases though.
There are others but these are the best ones I could recommend.
I recommend an Artisan for newbs struggling for D grade. You make 100k very quickly selling shots and dont need gear to do it. Much faster than a Scavenger and you cant sub a Warsmith which is what an Artisan becomes. Selling shots becomes much less lucrative at higher lvls; thats when the Bounty Hunter takes over and makes tons of $ (whom you could just wait and sub) But just for D grade $ I think Artisan will serve you best.
Manor system starts getting very good results on crops after lvl 30 on 4x hp mobs (in catacombs and nercropolis). Id use that to get by on your higher grade gear (then sub a BH that starts at lvl 40; just a suggestion)
