Phantom Summoner -- Complete Frustration

Player Questions Started Last reply 25 posts
I need some help before I give up on this game.
I have been playing a phantom Summoner for more than 2 years. I switched servers at one point and had to restart.
Currently I am lvl 66... it is very hard to get parties because people believe are arent really strong enough at any one thing to be useful, and for the most part they are right... Sure we have party cubics that can help, we have a healling summons that does great for 1 person but we cant heal groups. We do have a good amount of DD but we arent a tank. So for the most part I have to solo everything I do. At level 66 I have to use my shadow with takes 30% of xp. I am fighting green and white mobs (Doom knights and such) at the rate and place I am fighting I am getting all of 3% and hour. I mean do the math... 40 to 50 hours of grinding to get 1 level at 66? that is stupid! I know it is going to get much worse so should I even bother?

C5 completely nerfed the summoners, we lost 30% in PVP, we have NO real magic attacks, we did get wind shackle but that only helps alittle. The summon friend is cool, but that works best if you are in a party... and as I said before it is hard to even get in a party because we are viewed as a solo class.

HELP!!!! any one have any ideas, or ways to improve on this?

Sorry for the whining I am just frustrated with this game, that is all.

The last of the Phantom Summoners.

but we cant heal groups

You can't group heal, but you can heal groups - there's a very important distinction right there.

Try to get into groups with other 'weak' classes more - or just summoner groups - so you can use soulless.
Actualy, you can tank in duo/trio with fighters. Had a party with me, warloc and destro keppig a yellow/pink room in cata. Was realy nice exp, since warloc played both dd, tanker and healer, but only took exp of 1 person.
We can heal groups (just 1 at a time), but it is very hard because we dont have the speed of a normal healer. when many people are being hit I cant heal them all as quickly as a healer class... BUT when I am healing just 1 person I can heal for about 1000 a shot.

I would love to find other summoners... there just arent that many.
What server are you on now?

And you haver to play to your strengths - for example, you make the best secondary healer for the rift anyone could ask for, since, unlike most other people, you won't suddenly run OOM in the middle.
I am Currently on Lionna.

I have done many rift groups, but currently I am unclanned, so finding those is alittle harder. I dont mind the PVP or anything but we (phantom Summoners) are so screwed up at the moment we cant fight back as well.
Lionna has always had a high summoner population ... but I'm not in touch with most of htem at the moment. In either case, your best bet for finding groups is being near them and offering them a few mass cubic or two - and then they might bite and get you in on the exping eventually.
Thanks, I wish it was that easy, unfortunately alot of summoners have rerolled, and those that have stayed are very high... so they are subbed. I need to know where to look for a group now.
Hmm, I believe I bumped into a 6x summoner recently. Her name starts with P and I friended her, but I can't remember it without seeing. :(

In any case, try not just summoners but TKs etc as well - I've always gotten pick-ups by stopping by to throw random heals/buffs/cubics at people.
Why are you in such a hurry to level? the game is not a race, get away from the mindset of how much or little xp you are getting. Play the game to have fun. Since you are unclanned will make this game very boring to anyway. I feel people put too many expections on themselves to keep up, and that really hurts the game experience. Explore the land, find someone to play with.
Its not the game, its you. You can only change yourself.
When you quit, can I have your stuff?
I didnt say I was in a rush, I have been playing 2 years and my highest toon is only 66. now mind you I have 5 level 60+ toons. I am just trying to find a way to make this better that is all.
****. Lol I been playing for 2 years and have a level 52 and a level 43..and a few random 30'ish toons.
In parties try and be a DD, soulless is more than equal to the task. As for tanking, i can tank the rift RB, i think that it's safe to say that PS is an ok tank. I'd suggest TOI 4 for a solo spot for you, once you her to 68 -70 i'd recommend garden of the beast. By 72 you can hunt it with soulless (solo). Doom nights are too far spaced for really good XP.

You might also try one of the first rooms of 4 in Martyr's necropolis. Around 72 you can hunt a room of four in Forbidden path but sometimes it gets a bit hairy in FP at that level.

If you're looking to use nightshade then yes you can heal a party. You aren't a bishop, not at all. But your heal is strong and you have great mp management so you can heal a grooup reasonably well in most situations.

he doesnt have an OOG life like many who post here.

Elro is another prime example of a player who for 2 years has played but hasnt reached end game yet.

as have I, as have many. including the Original Poster. its those who have nothing else to do but eat/sleep(sometimes)/play l2 that we do not discern as well-rounded players most of the time.

to the OP: grats on 66 and grinding a summoner for 2 years. thats an accomplishment you need to take pride in.

dont worry about getting end-game, just have fun with the time you have. rediscover the fun, and the levels will come on their own.
Thanks for the advice but I have questions.

1. fighting with the souless when solo kinda sucks because it doesnt have VR like the shadow. So I am having to heal alot more, I know I would gain an extra 20% but do you really thing it balances out?

How different is TOI level 4 from level 1... level 1 I seem to get to much agro and that causes LOTS of problems.

I agree I think the nightshade is a great healer. It is just getting the parties... out of clan is a pain.

You are in LP? I will PM you if I can find you on.

Thanks again

Not quite sure what you mean. I was saying good job to the op who is doing way better then myself. Does my 52 and 43 impress you?

Does my 52 and 43 impress you?

It impresses me. Add those up and you have more lvls than I do. :p
Ya know one time I said something like that on these boards. Something along the lines of "I have saved all my mats for 70 levels" Someone was quick to make the comment the grinding out 40 and 30 levels is not the same as grinding out 70 levels. lol I get put in my place around here alot. :p

Well, I suppose that it isn't the same. Getting into the 70's is a different experience. But remember Nos... some people on this site can't take a joke.

p.s. I hope it wasn't me who told you that. If it was just chalk it up to menopause :p
Sad sad world... I have been trying for more than 2 hours to get a party... no love for the Phantom Summoners.

I've got a Phantom Summoner as well (should hit Spectral Master in January) on Lionna. I've never had trouble finding parties if I wanted them; granted mostly in clan/alliance.

The mass phantom cubic is nothing short of awesome in a large party (6-9 people on 4x HP or above). Soulless is an absolute DPS machine especially when you have SE/Proph/WC + BD buffs.

Nightshade is bad at healing AoE damage (for which you'd want an SE/Bish/WC) but is very, very good, almost on par with the EE/Bish for single target heals. And with bsps even unbuffed my nightshade casts fast. In areas that don't give large AoE damage I have no difficulty keeping a party healed. I used to do TOI10 at your level as the only healer and I could keep it up for 4 hours or so before running low on MP. And if you don't mind the crystal cost (e.g. at raid bosses) you have an infinite pool to heal from; last raid I was at I estimate I healed about 60,000 HP on the main tank, which isn't bad, and I could have kept it up indefinately.

Get a good clan ;) best for a PS is to solo with Soulless, not Shadow (yes you can do it, even without VR, thanks to herbs.) Or even better, get a duo with another melee; a bladedancer/PS group is pretty crazy, and SwS/PS works very well too. I normally party with my BH friend, and I have a WC on a second account to buff us, but even without the WC I can solo. VR helps a ton, though, so if I can get it, I will (I know most of the 'regulars' near where I hunt, so it's not too hard to get WW/VR).

At level 66 I was soloing in Valley of Saints -- just make sure your MDEF is up to the challenge! +3 BO set is a minimum there. And I did BSOE sometimes; it happens. The XP when I wasn't BSOEing was great, though.

I never liked doom knights; although I now solo hot springs, I've in the past always avoided areas with stun. It not only is the main cause of PvE problems, it's also the main cause of poor XP.

I used to do TOI10 at your level as the only healer and I could keep it up for 4 hours or so before running low on MP.

I can vouch for this. Arigato rocks!

The sad reality is that pick-up groups are really hard for a lot of classes to get. You really should look into finding a nice clan out there and you shouldn't have many problems. Keep levelling, need more awesome PS's like Arigato and Kiroth!

I play usally between 6PM-12AM MST and am happy to answer questions. Arigato got it right on solo with soulless. With herbs i can actually use Transferpain while soloing with soulless so the herbs really are amazing. But that's 1/2 Hp field mobs that you mow through.

TOI 4 is the only frloor out of 1-5 that does not have para. Now that para is only 10 seconds it's not as big of a deal but it's still nastywhen you're the one who's para'd.

Also A grade armor sucks for the PS. Just throwing that out there.
Thanks for all the help, Going to FOD to solo has increased my 3% an hour to abut 4.5% that will make a big difference over the long run.
Atigato.. you the man!
I'm amazed you made it to level 66 solo without going bonkers. Have you tried finding a stable clan to group with? Lionna's old enough there are clans of every time zone (aussie, euro, american) and every type (from serious to silly). Have you found one to fit in with?

I know I've had lousy luck finding parties outside my alliance. I'm an EE at 66, so if there's no party in the ally, I just go play something else.
