Doom actually gives less MAtk than Zubei. I guess the +regen on Doom is nice, so is the +runspeed, but I don't know why a nuker would want to take a hit to WIT (rhyme unintend).
Demon does indeed give a little more MAtk - but really only a little. The damage difference on an SH is less than 3%.

The way I look at it , its still a 11% (0.11) increase for 4INT if you have tatoos or not for a SH.

They have enough wit, so they can touch it a bit. Also they dont have b2m and Doom raises their benefit from mana regeneration buff, and since it still got int +2 its not totally wrong for a nuker.
I just hit 52 on my necro. Plan to stay with the demon set I got and get Avadon set for the occassional pvp. !WTB 2 Avadon gloves parts...
And SoV once I find the rec and the parts... :)
I like the Avadon on my SH hunting VoS. It is rare that I can come close to one-shotting a mob, so I rather get off 2 faster shots. Also with the group mobs, splitting mobs, and social behavior, I regularly have 4-5 mobs on me. Speed is very important.
On my Sorceror (wears Demon set) I was hunting Cave Maidens (3 shots) in DV at 50. At 51 Cave maidens became two-shot most of the time. At 52 I wanted Cave Maidens to be two-shot every time. I tried on Zubei, but the Demon set gave me higher matk, so I am sticking to it for now. Luckily my SE buffer has BtB5 on his staff.
I am not sure if the matk with Zubei ever catches up to the Demon set as your base matk increases with level. I suspect not, assuming both effectively give a % increase.
I could understand that but why do u have pre lvl 40 skills on your bar?
I keep them there cause I can still 1 shot some of the mobs where I hunt at with the 40 skills...so if i aggro a few to many mobs I can clear the line without having to wait for the other skills to recharge.
No matter what you are, you go demon for pve. The increase in m attack from demon is higher than the increase from zubei for all mages unless you are a spellsinger and for whatever reason decreased your int below its already incredibly low base value. Furthermore, the demon set also increases m attack more than the best A grade robe. This doesn't so much prove that the demon set is incredible, just that int magic attack robe sets are rather subpar and usually fail to note that m attack is square rooted and so needs to greatly raised to gain any increase.
Never use doom as it is hands down the worst robe set, the increase to magic regen is negligible, the decrease to wit from only gaining 2 extra int is huge in light of the demon sets loss of only 1 wit for 4 int. The only saving grace for doom is that it looks good on light elven females.
Well, not always. Once you reach the point where the optimal number of spells it takes to kill a mob is 2, then Avadon has merit...simply because it increases your XP rate/buff round, particularly for a mage with mana management skills. If you're 2-shotting the same mob no matter what armor you have on, then you should go Avadon.
Also, as an SH with slow cast speed and with the removal of sleep from our spellbooks, Avadon is again a viable choice with an Acumen weapon. The problem with Demon is not only it's lower HP, but lower p.def. Avadon provides more of each, and it comes in handy. (I'm sure there are a select few mages who never get hit, but I can probably take a poll that would show that it happens more often than you think to some of the best of us.)
There is the difference between a spellhowler and a spellsinger. A spellsinger puts on Avadon and they are 3 shotting mobs they could kill in 2 shots with demon. And ideally, you'd keep moving up the chain of mobs to kill the highest level mobs you can for the greatest amount of exp you can get, and for that you need to have as high a magic attack as possible. Hence you should always go demon. If you're easily 2 shotting the mobs where you are at no matter the armor, you'll probably be better off finding higher level mobs you can just manage to 2 shot with the demon set on.
At 52, Metal has 24 more m attack with a demon set on than I do at 66 with the same set and +5 int from tattoos.
