Ok, ok...you're right. I can have 2 nukers seed me and then cast a powerful nuke. It takes 3x the MP to do the same amount of damage as regular nukes. Yes, I see how that is useful <rolls eyes>
Yes, I clicked on them. They were not imposed on me. I am simply pointing out that there exist some useless skills in the game. In case some of you don't get it, this is a sarcastic thread. I am not really asking for my SP back. I am making light of the fact that we learn skills that, after trying them out, we wish we hadn't. Lighten up folks!
On my SE =
Kiss of Eva, Vampiric Touch, Windshackle, Sleep.
Kiss of Eva doesn't really belong to the useless skills. You can for example save a lot of hp pots if you have to go to TI for the prof quest on alts :p
I have no idea, if I had ever made it to lvl 60 without my skill... *drumroll* Bandage !!
Bandaged Kitten
Ohh.. Bandage is good if you are spoiling mobs that bleed. The Halinka in GC, and the Sharp Taloned Kittys outside GC (as well as those sneaky Shamans that morph into Kittys.)
Kiss of Eva is good to get to TI with, but you can buy the pots in Heine for (500??) adena each. Those are what I use to swim the channel. Oh, and you can swim all the way back if you aim at the Langk Liz Barracks penninsula (and save an SoE) (yes, I know I'm cheap.)
-Freezing Shackle
(its just a weak dot that doesn't work 1/3 of the time and costs more than a normal nuke while not doing as much damage as a Bsps nuke over 10 seconds.)
-Sleep
(Nerfed to worthlessness)
-Sleeping Cloud
(Nerfed to worthlessness)
-Aura Flare
(Nerfed to worthlessness)
-Seed Spells
(yes, they are worthless in comparison)
-Curse:Weakness
(Barely noticeable difference... they could quadruple what it does and it would still never be cast.)
-Mana Regen
(Thanks on the massive ONE extra nuke/minute... B2M1 gives more mana return by far...)
/sigh, come interlude, I am expecting a good portion of the rest of it will be nerfed into pointlessness as well.
seeds and elemental assaults do MUCH more damage than the same mp spent on regular nukes.
try it on zaken, or another epic boss. they go down faster than single nuking as the cumulative cast time for the elemental assault is far less than cumulative cast time for single nukes.
against zaken, ele symphony did 75k damage using 3 sorc. 1st sorc seed, 2nd sorc seed and 1st sorc surr. to fire, 3rd sorc ele sym and presto 75k damage. after rezzing 3rd sorc, rinse repeat using alternating sorcs.
I wonder if those are intended only for epic bosses. In a previous alliance I was in, we did tests on normal raid bosses, mobs, and players in the arena, and the results were far from what you just described. Basically, what it came down to was that I could cast Prominence 4 times for ~280 mp and do the same damage as the big nuke (750mp for the nuker and 2 seeders). This was back in C3...maybe they changed it.

Still doesn't add any breath gauge worth mentioning...you might as well not buff it, wouldnt really make a difference.
There is no way to "learn to use" Charm in any form. It's worthless by all accounts.
Sorry, i used charm on my sws twice over 63 lvls and it was a bit useful.
With bsps it helped the mpless tank to gain agro, when the party was nearly all dead.
It's just that very soon the mp cost for that skill goes too high for it to be even useable >_< , so most of the higher skill levels are better off not learnt.

mmmh. well i should mention 75k damage was an Mcrit.
To be honest, I think those of us who have been around long enough to see new skill sets added should be reimbursed some SP. Each time NC adds skills, they reduce the cost of the rest to even things out, but those of us who got the old skills before the new ones had to pay the full sp cost plus the costs of the new skills. WTB love for the old timers.
And I want a beer. Oh wait, got one. :p I do agree with ya. I would love to have the option to "unlearn" crap skills and recover some sp for the ones that may actually come in handy. Hell, make a quest of it.
On my SE =
Kiss of Eva, Vampiric Touch, Windshackle, Sleep.
Kiss of Eve comes in pots true, but still its usefull when you have swim a lot.
Vamp Touch, since the lack of offensive skill this one helps you out a lot when you are in your pre 40 levels on a solo hunt. Not quite useless I would say.
Windshackle most underestimated SE skill. Its very usefull in PvP and PvE. It decrease opponents attackspeed significant.
Sleep... what to say about sleep... forget sleep, its useless on a SE sinse its only goes to skill lvl 9 and hardly ever lands.
DE's get surrender to poison. A skill that makes you surrender to another useless skill.
LOL yes that's right.
The worst part (from a friend who actually got it) is that it costs the same MP as poison and doesn't stick as well. So in almost every case, simply casting 2 poisons would be better.
Poison once had a purpose, back when very slow mobs like golems weren't mage resist, as you could just poison some, kill other stuff, and then kill the very weakened mobs.
Infernal form ,light armor mastery for destro's come on ??lion hearth well not as useless as it seems but considering it's not that strong of M.def buff plus it doesn't last that long might as well get ride of it
powerstrike for ANY melee (for the love of god! it hits for less than a crit and is maxed at lvl 9 which you learn when toon is at lvl 15 or some such....never to change)
I like my windshackle. In PvE it's pretty much the only skill I have to pull things. In PvP it's nice to have a 23% dps debuff that is less of a game of chance than Phantom Cubic, although Phantom's debuffs are much better if they stick.
I don't think I could list off every single useless skill their is, but there sure is a lot of them.
On HE: vicious stance, vital force(who the hell sits down to regen any more, hardly anyone), stun shot cost too much mp, so does double shot, and does way less dmg then a crt does. Burst shot, cost double the mp cost of stun shot very limited useage. soul of Sagittarius, only uses up a buff slot, don't help MP regen rate at all, worthless skill.
On daggers: unlock, very very limited useage. vital force.
DA: corpse plague, drain health, live scavage.
WL: revival, focus act.
SE: resurrection, disrupt undead, sleep.
BD: dance of protection (freaking worhtless, it;s for terrain dmg), dance of earth guard, Vamp dance at 74 instead of at 62 (so BD can solo with out needing a **** SE). drain health is too weak, frezing strike is worthless.
why the hell does BD get a dance to protect from water, why isn't that on a SwS as a song?
My clan sometimes goes to GoE or DI, then I buff KoE. I also buff myself before swimming into a catacomb, because breath doesn't hold out long enough with -CON to get swam through.
I'm not sure if I'm going to get level 2 though.
Level 1 already adds a big enough chunk to swim down into GoE and fight the mobs on the way without running out of air.
Plus, there's a port straight into DI now..
Useless skills? Hmm. I didn't learn Regeneration...
I like my windshackle. In PvE it's pretty much the only skill I have to pull things. In PvP it's nice to have a 23% dps debuff that is less of a game of chance than Phantom Cubic, although Phantom's debuffs are much better if they stick.
I wish I'd only learned windstrike level 1 - its excellent to pull things with, and in pvp I'm busy spamming my gimpy battle heal from level 35 :p
I think I missclicked and learned some light armor masteries - I'd like to get that SP back :) Not saying it's useless or nuthin, I just never used light armor on my SE.
windshackle - Try it sometime on a RB that haste itself works extrememly well and yes at times it takes more than one try even on a RB with light mdef, it also works well on other PvE mobs.
Take a laugh sometimes on Sleep 9 and Root 9 from SE or EE at how often that skill still lands though now Sleep is pointless with cast time as it is.
There are several light Armors with Cast Speed on the BW but for the tiny amount of Pdef given not giving up the rest of my robe bonus.
Regen useless since when caster/tanks are just a few off hand that without Mana in most situation are useless. Though I do laugh that a level 35 Caster will get 172 MP regen and 70 + 218 MP you would think there would be abit more there.
I do think the point is that in the use of a skill finding ways to use it and many just do not. Also a skill that had great use at one time, and does not seem too later on may be game play styles changing, or the dreaded nerf.
Here's a couple of the newer ones that fit that catagory in PVE.
Phantom Summoner's Mass surrender to wind. Which is only good if you are teamed up with a SH in an AOE group, like that is serously going to happen.. <laughs>
Warlock's Mass surrender to fire is in the same boat... eg.. they would have to team up with a sorc in an aoe party for it to be usefull.
Both of the above criteria are very unlikley to occur to make use of the skills. Making those skills pretty much a waste of SP's unless your best buddy is a SH/Sorc and you do AOE groups often.
Mind you both could possibly be usefull in PVP if you can get your summon close to a tight group of enemys and the spell cast before summon gets erased. Hmm.. I am seeing a lot of "IF"'s here on both criteria... Yep.. mostly useless these skills.

dead in 15 mins.
bigger numbers != better
All mage nukes work off a power rating which is multiplied off the MAtk/Mdef calculation.
The most powerful seed attack is 500 power and costs 750 mana (two seeds + casting the spell)
Standard overhit nukes cost 85 mana for 135 power
On boss fights, mana is a limiting reagent for mages.
Why go with a spell which costs more time and more mana per power rating than a simple nuke?
Also, I have trouble believing the 75k number...
Power ratings are multiplicative and are 4-5x higher for the seed spells than normal nukes.
Mages do not hit for 15k vs boss mobs (evens) even when they crit.
There is no way to "learn to use" Charm in any form. It's worthless by all accounts.
No, it isn't, actually. I use it now quite a bit when in small groups and mobs aggro me. It didn't start to work until I was like 72... but now it works almost all the time. I trance the mob, then give it peace, and it just forgets about me :) I like that.
[EDIT: I realize I mean PEACE, not CHARM... but think they are approximately the same thing?]
And the only real use I have for Kiss of Eva is an emot for making out
Peace is awesome for a bishop when fishing up a mob ^^ (I wish I had something like that on my SE, so I wouldn't have to just run run run till the mob disappears)
It has also saved me from death several times. I loved that spell :)
As an SK... usless skills I learned!?
Mortal Blow (yes I was a noob!)
Power shot (a noob again!)
Poison (takes to long with less effect.. my cubie does it much better than me and faster :) )
Power Break (I use it so rarely :( )
Absolut usless:
Corps Plague (why the **** did I learned it?)
Confusion (does that skill do anything useful?)
But what me me realy make angry is:
I spent so many SP on my skills, than the next chronical give sme new skills from lower lvl and I need to spent again SP without getting SP back for the more expensive skill in the chronicle befor :(

I feel your pain. For erase and mana burn I need to spend and additional 12 mil SP + whatever 3 levels of holy resistance cost - I can't remember. I have yet to learn mana burn. I'd rather get my 76+ skills first. It ****** me of to no end that we have to pay more SP total for skills added at a new expantion that are obtained at lower skill levels than we are currently at.
