I'm very confuse about Destroyers. Many have told me that Destroyers should be using Heavy Blue Wolf Set for B grade and Heavy Tallum Set for A grade. All the Destroyers a seen on the server are using Heavy Doom Set and Nightmare Heavy. The one I spoke to also have +4str -con. Was the best set up for Destroyer please help.
I will be pulling/soloing and party with clan. Please help me on the best setup for a destroyer. Thank you.
I will try to help if I can but any advice will depend a lot on your preferred playstyle and what buffs you have. I always have Haste2, Zerk2 and VR3 which are key buffs for a Destroyer with polearm.
I use BW Heavy and Doom Heavy but the Doom Heavy is not really necessary (I just use it to increase my max HP so I can use Frenzy earlier). If I had to pick one armor I would pick BW Heavy because it is better for PvE (a lot better). If you plan to engage in PvP primarily and if you can only afford one set of armor get Doom Heavy.
I am currently building up a set of Tallum Heavy and I intend to replace my BW Heavy with Tallum Heavy. I suspect for my playstyle Tallum Heavy will be better because of the huge boost in attack speed (+8% from the armor and +2% from the DEX since BW has a -2 DEX).
I have STR+4/CON-4 tattoos and I plan to add DEX+4/CON-4. This is a PvE setup and I expect it will make me have a harder time in PvP; but, I want to gain levels faster and am willing to give up recreational PvP until I get the levels.
My goal in the build path I'm pursuing is to maximize my DPS (damage-per-second) hence I give up HP for Patk and attack speed. I use Rage and Frenzy as often as I can so I need to get maximum attack speed. To speed up reuse I activate Rage and Frenzy with a Cursed Dagger that has the Risk: Haste SA and I equip Doom Heavy (this eliminates the -2 DEX penalty of BW Heavy and boosts my HP significantly - however, once I get Tallum Heavy I won't use the Doom anymore). This allows me to activate Frenzy about every 4 or 5 minutes [Frenzy is up 90 seconds, cooldown is about 2 minutes then it takes another minute or so to get my HP back to 30%]. As soon as I activate Frenzy I switch to BW Heavy with Polearm, drop a GHP and use Battle Roar to heal. Then I pull all the mobs I can (usually >20) go into a corner and pole them to death. This only works with VR buff, but it works great. The only real difficulty is if any of the mobs can stun. While I wait for Frenzy to become available I pull smaller groups (2-6) and pole them.
This may be a lot more info than you are looking for but here is the normal cycle of skills I use:
1> Drop HP to <30% as fast as possible (usually remove all armor, and use Crush of Doom, etc.) by pulling small groups of mobs. End the combat at <30%.
2> Switch to Doom Heavy, Cursed Dagger then activate Rage, Frenzy, Zealot, Battle Roar, use GHP. Switch to BW Heavy, polearm, then pull all mobs in room and watch them die.
3> Rage is normally available again so I switch to Cursed Dagger and activate Rage then pull mobs trying to get back to <30% HP quickly. Usually Rage and Frenzy become available about the time I get back to 30% HP.
4> Repeat the same as <2> above but only use Rage, Frenzy, Battle Roar (Zealot is not ready).
5> Repeat <3>.
6> Now about the time at 30% HP again Rage, Frenzy and Zealot are all available so repeat <2>
That is the cycle of skills I use and it works pretty well. I usually can get a Frenzy pull about 4 to 5 times each buff cycle and this is where most of the XP comes [about 1% per pull].
Hopefully this helps. Destroyers are so much fun to play that I've sidelined my Spellhowler for the last few months!
Sounds like a good setup, maybe get a +4 Str -4 Con dye (they are the one pretty cheap dye you can buy from a PC in Giran, 100-150k each on Sieghardt).
With BW Heavy, lance, and SE buff/heal you are set. What will you use now? I'm assuming you have Comp or FPA and an Orcish Poleaxe? Over time try to add the following:
1> Greatsword+3 with Focus SA
2> The STR+4/CON-4 dyes are fairly cheap: about 150K each = 1.5m + 600K to add the tattoo.
3> The cursed dagger costs a bit less than 4m to purchase and add the SA. This item will significantly reduce the reuse delay using Rage and Frenzy. It takes some time to get used to using it but it is worth the effort.
There are two great ways to make lots of adena, especially at your level (I think I read from sig you are level 47 Destroyer).
1> Pull 8-16 mobs [1 or 2 rooms] in the back rooms in Catacombs of the Branded until level 50 or so then move to the front rooms in Catacomb of the Apostate. None of them stun so it is easy to do with side healing from the SE. You will be able to make lots of adena and AA doing this. Easily enough to fully fund your B grade gear. If you are doing this solo (don't know if your SE is in party or out-of-party) you'll earn > 50%/hr until about level 52.
2> Get a Greatsword+Focus, run into an 8-mob catacomb room and seed. You will probably pull more than 1 mob at a time but should have no problems. You'll get 4+ fruit per mob = 32+ fruit per spawn of the room. The room spawns about every 90 seconds and you will have no problem keeping the room cleared. So this means you'll make > 1000 fruit per hour. This is worth a fortune in adena if you pick the right seeds (this will depend on what mats are worth the most on your server). The only downside to this approach is that it is about half the XP than the poling approach BUT you will make a lot more adena this way. At your level I'd be a lot more focused on generating adena than XP if you don't have enough to get all your gear at level 52.
Eventually you should try to get into a clan and use teamwork to get gear. There are several quests you can use to help get A grade gear. But, they take time and some take teamwork. For instance, there is a 2-part quest at GC to get recs for A grade armor. But, GC is not an easy plave to work alone. A Destroyer with a boxed SE can do it, but it ain't easy. Also, as a Destroyer, you'll find that speed of attack buffs are a huge boost, especially for poling. But, an SE does not have that. Prophets and WCs do, so all the more reason to get involved with a good clan, for a mix of buffs for all players.
Oh, and to run the quest for A grade Heavy Weapons, look up the Coins of Magic Quest. It's not fun, but it is a pre-requisite to the quests that will get you the A grade weapons you want.
