hey all... I really hate being at college since I can't play L2 :( any how I am going home soon :D
QUESTION;
Do bow atks' suffer penalties in close range. I have seen many video clips of ppl just standing there and shooting while the mob just wacks at them.
thanks for the help :)
if you're further back ( at 900 range) and higher up than your target...then you'll see a difference in the bow ( higher up makes more of a difference)
like casting is there ever a fail rate that means your arrows don't shoot?
thankyou for your previous response that was good to know. This is in regards to melee range i.e. when the mob can hit with eg. its fists.
PS. I always thought the point of an archer was not to get hit.
less accuracy if you are at point-blank range. this is of course unconfirmed by any official source, and i never tested the hieght thing, but it sounds like something they would do. though you may notice a difference, your actual stats will not change when using bows "incorrectly".
yeah I thought something like that was happening to me early on when I was messing about a bit. I no longer use my bow that much since I have not completed 2nd class transfer yet for HE but soon.... soon. :)
From my personal experience, accuracy goes down in melee range...but you cant see that in your stats, so it stays unconfirmed.
I'll second that. You miss more when the mob is up close and personal. This may be a result of the fact that you are getting hit, or a result of "incorrect use of a ranged weapon" -- neither are confirmed, though.
Of course, it goes without saying that as an archer your evasion increases as you move. (Check your passive skill sets to see what I mean.) So you might as well "stick and move" as the boxing saying goes. If the mob is that close, it will probably miss you, as long as you're moving.
I can confirm that elevation increases both your accurace and crit rate as an archer. I did a lot of testing with my PR and found a noticeable difference between shooting from above a target, shooting on equal footing, and shooting from below. Shooting from above being the biggest increase and shooting from below showing a very small decrease.
There is only an increase in evasion when you're on high ground, making you harder to hit, only applies when being under arrow attacks. I would guess you crit more on targets below you because you shoot at them from behind or sides, then you have a higher crit rate.
No decrease in accuracy at close range either, it's all random. Archers don't k,ite anymore, because they're always at least buffed by a PP or SE, that means hard crits and most open field mobs die in 1-4 shots, no need to kite. Kiting is a Prelude/C1 term when PVE is considered :p

I just have the one account. I am hardly ever buffed. :D

i kite all the time....keeps me alive....seeing how i can't 1-2 shot everything ( not past 76 yet so fo focus sa)
and i'm sure most people on here asking these questions are not end game toons. so kiting does apply to them
kiting is good, either you re buffed or not. a proper archer should both in pve and pvp. practice on pve and give your best on pvp. and dont mind the people that will call you noob when u start kiting during pvp (melee classes of course). by running you increase evasion and hp/mp regen, u got passive skills for that (Esprit/Acrobatic move)

I still employ kiting, even when fully buffed. There are some mobs that can close the distance and stun/shock/paralyze you before you can get off that 4th arrow. Just try standing still while hunting the orc supply leaders in the Cemetary and you'll see what I mean. No they won't kill you, but if you're asleep on the job, you're not XP'ing. :D
thanks all for the response the comments have been useful. I knew kiting would probably be a benefit and the info on hight/ distance accuracy although unofficial has made me think :)
thanks again
Of course if the mob isn't dead when it reach you (or in the next shot or two), you take a step back.. with herbs on most field mobs it's even less of areason to kite.
PVP.. you kite, hell you can even kite nukers while waiting for sun shot to land, if you're not properly buffed..
