Please explain A;B;C;D, Grading system

Hello, I have spent hours and hours trying to find info on how to know what the grades mean. I see armour and weapons that have letters after them and I bought a leather helmet that had a 'D' after it and my sister told me I had a penalty for wearing it because I was not 'D' grade for another 2 levels. She doesn't really understand either - another player told her D grade is at level 20. I have asked a few people but they werent sure and petitioning for help or writing to the support page the quest masters tell me they arent allowed to answer that question and I have to find out myself. Please can someone help me on this one. thanks a lot

They are simply level requirements to use the gear without a penalty.

D - 20+
C - 40+
B - 52+
A - 61+
S - 76+

The grades from lowest to highest are as follows
NG 1+
D 20+
C 40+
B 52+
A 61 +
S 76 +

Basically the grade is how powerful an item is, there is a fairly nasty penalty for using equipment above your grade.

Thanks very much - thats really helped!!!! I found out the hard way about the penalty bit ;-) Its a great game but loads of things are confusing at the moment. I'm only level 24 so a long way to go yet so I suppose I'll learn in the end! Thanks again!

The weapon grade also corresponds to the grade of shots (Soulshots, Spiritshots, Blessed Spiritshots) you use. For example, if you're using a D grade weapon, you can only use d grade Soulshots with it.

The same goes for enchantments.

Also, if you receive a death penalty, you will need to acquire the proper grade scroll to remove it; which is the same as the list I first posted.

They are (or were) if you look under the class before job changes; human fighter, for example, rather than human knight or paladin.

Well I have an alt tagged, just to mess around with players...Clan is designed to do that.
