Soo basically i would like some input and advice on becoming a clan leader. like forming a clan, levling a clan, leading a clan. What makes a good leader? Just would like some tips, i have been thinking bout forming one.
if you want to make a good clan, you need to recruit the correct classes, people that are active, know how to form good parties, etc...
anyway...
yea, you need to know how to form raid groups and xp parties, etc. the clan is only as good as the leader but you can only lead and do stuff if you have good subordinates.
also figure out how you are are going to help gear your clannies beforehand.
Patience, patience, patience.
Be prepared to not level as fast as you are probably used to. Being a clan leader takes time and dedication. Some members will want to always group with you, always want stuff, get into fights you will have to finish, get bored because they dont get the best xp'ing etc.
Keep a note pad at your desk, take notes of each person and their needs. Yes, clannies always need something. Deligate responsibilities too. dont try and take on all the tasks yourself. Do you have someone that you trust and can possible talk to on the phone so you can explain thing efficiently? Use teamspeak if you can. There is a lot to being a leader, but its fun and rewarding. Pring a map of the area, make hand written notes of where the boss mobs are so you can be quick about seeing what bosses are up. People hate waiting around.
hey i know this is off topic. BUT how in the world did u level all those characters? i mean i've played for 2 years and my highest character is only 52. lol. got any secrets?
Sleep is 8 hours. School is 4... with a commute of 2-4 hours... dependin on whether or not I want to shell out for gas... or take a bus. Then there is the 3 hours a day I spend working on commissions. There is no such thing as "only 7 hours" for me. I have to lose sleep or miss days of work/ school to get good hours of grinding in.
I think it all comes down to what you do. For me at my job i can play L2. So i can easy get a good few hours of grind time at work and still have the rest of my day to get to my classes study and then sleep. NTM some people are stay at home moms or they are home schooled or maybe even work a job from home. So its not hard to find people that can get 7+ hour of grind time. Where as others have a lot harder time just getting 2 or 3 hours.
About clan leader... Its a hard job at times. There may be days where you log in to one person that need 5 things fromt he Clan wh another that wants a private convo with you another that is mad you havent grinded with then and might even have to deal with another clan leader about problems between your clans. There are may a days when me and my boyfriend log in and never get a chance to acutally lvl at all. And other days that all our clan wants to do is get a huge party going for hours and hours. It really worth the time and effort though. My clan is the best group of people i know. We mesh well together and they are supportive of most anything going on in RL that may cause one of the leaders to no log in. Just make sure your ready for those days where you just want to scream because there will be a few. But of course there will be days that you never want to log bc you having so much fun.
As far as lvling goes just have to go to good spots for your class. I lvled a toon from 1-65 in C4 (No buffer literally solo). That includes dying alot, pvp, and days where i just say eh [923] it.
Basically all that's been said above are good advices. Indeed being a leader isn't going to be the easiest trip in the world, but if you have gathered the good guys around you and on top of that have a very good unison, then you should have more of the good days then of the down ones.
In order to achieve this I suggest to set yourself some goals and guidelines as to how you want your clan to profile itself and which type of people (players) you want to attrackt into your ranks. It's important that newjoiners to your clan know upfront how casual or hardcore you are, what you expect of them in return for clan profits or even hwo you stand towards matters such as PvP or politics. It will make your life easier in getting the right people to your clan.
I, for exemple, always hold an interview with someone who expresses it's interest to join my alliance. This can be in game or via Pm o the official boards here or even via e-mail (which I find easiest for everyone as one can take tme to reflect). If the recrute sounds interesting towards the rest of the set goals and the already established core players, I invite the recrute to team up one or several times with our team so that everyone get's to know eachother and see how the energy flows. If the flow is good an dthe feedback from the rest of the clanies is positive in majority, the recrute will most likely be joined to our ranks.
I advise you to set clear guidelines and to make your clanies used to the fact there are times you will so NO to something or that you will want to XP a bit on your own or in a small party or even that you have no time to talk to them at that point (when you are in Raid f.e. it's very hard to stay focussed on the raid if you are bothered with PM's). Keep in mind you are a player amongst players with a community role.
Also be sure before you start your clan that you inded have figured out how fast you wishto be lvl X of clan, what the requirements are to do so and also (as stated somewhere above) be sure you have a plan on how to provide for your clan needs in general. It's lots of organisation, lots of planning, lots of initiatif taking but with the correct crowd you shouldn't have a problem ;)
As for leveling...I'm in th game since open Beta and I'm still but 65 ;) so no worries...
Remember a clan is but as good as the efforts one places in it. Efforts from you but also from your clanmates...You are what you make of it ;)
If you've never been in a clan, try first to join one that suits your playstyle. Make a clan only if you know you need to.
Since when I started the game, in open beta, first on Sieghart, we had formed a little group of friends, and made a clan on Sieg and remade it on Hindemith (then it was disolved and remade again etc etc until today when I really remade the same clan, InManaWeTrust, and now it's a real clan, lvl 5 and good clannies).
But, back to the past, with that little group of friends we then joined another clan, and I realized all the problems it caused to be a leader. Problem of money/SP, problem of recruiting and organizing. I tried to help my clan leader as mush as I could, but it didn't make me want to lead a clan.
Way later, still on my overlord, I was in a large alliance. But they didn't party often, and ally chat was often in russian..., and you know how hard it is to play an OL without party, especially when you're broke like me, so I thought it would be time to make my clan. I knew what I wanted to make and I made it. I don't regret, but unless I really knew what I wanted to do I'd just have looked for another clan and never have made one.
Sorry for the long story, in short, I suggest you try a couple of clan so you really figure out what's missing and why do you need to make your own.
Also be aware that after C5 its not easy to start up new clans, larger highlevel clans will lure members over pretty quickly and you'll be stuck in an endless cycle trying to replace people leaving for big strong clans.
I have very little time between 2 jobs, the family, Lineage Radio. Leading a clan would be impossible for me but I don't go about it alone.
4 of us went into the clan together, and maybe because I'm the oldest (or look the oldest at least) I got the leadership spot. My wife is one of the officers, so when I am not at home, she can access the clan warehouse if need be.
The 4 of us share duties such as recruitment, handling problems as they arrive, working on gear, organizing parties, and they've managed to put together a massive number of walkthroughs as a clan effort.
This sort of set-up requires trust, a focus on the same goals, and a willingness to allow me to call a direction when we can't agree unanimously. It also requires a friendship that goes beyond the game.
If you are a solo clan leader, then you need to have copious amounts of time to dedicate to your clan. But don't be discouraged. Look at your server. Someone owns that castle, someone's clan tag is known to all but the greenest of players, someone's clan has a reputation that precedes its members.
They all started at the same place you do. Roll up your sleeves, and good luck.
