Enchant armor question

Player Questions Started Last reply 21 posts
I've done a search and can't really find specifics dealing with this (and I'm new to L2) so I'll make this my 1st post.

Does anyone know the chances of enchanting armor to +4 and beyond? I know that each piece will go to +3 no prob., but after that how succesful (on average and/or %) might I be? I'm thinking of trying to get my Elven Mithril top and bottom to +4 or more(I have a few of the EAD scrolls already from drops) but don't want to lose it if the enchant fails.

Should I try or is it not worth it?

Thanks in advance.

*Edit - I'm a 24 lvl Elven Scout (if that matters)
You will fly through D grade so it's only worth it if you can afford losing it.
the addition of 2 to your def is not worth the risk, especially if you can not afford to lose the armor.
Sorry it isn't your question but: Your an elven scout in robes?!?

OE’ing D grade armor isn't worth it and you should probably try to get light armor instead of robes (or maybe heavy armor even as your light armor masteries don’t add much pdef (yet) and you probably do not evade much (yet) even when in light armor).

I believe it is a 50/50 chance to OE armor though NCSoft-Kr says it is 66% chance to succeed on every OE.
I am in light (not robes)...sorry I wasn't clear.
...and yeah, even at a 66% succes rate, that in itself isn't high enough for me.

I'll just sell 'em. :)

If you have spares, you can use them to enchant your jewels, safely, up to +3.
Armor that comes in two parts (Top/Bottom) can be safely enchanted to +3. (ex Brigandine/Manticore) Armor that comes in one piece can be safely enchanted to +4. (Salamander/Full Plate.) Please note: This only applies to the main 'body' armor. NOT the gloves/boots or helm.

Gloves, boots and helms can be safely enchanted to +3.

Jewelry is counted as 'Armor' and can also be safely enchanted to +3.

When enchanting over these safe amounts, the 'official' word is that you have the same success rate as enchanting a weapon. AKA 66%. (2/3 chance to succeed, 1/3 chance to fail.)

The *Unofficial* word however, is that armor/jewels seem to only succed at an approximate ~50% rate. (Weapon enchanting has been shown to pretty much match the official word...)

If you have some extra enchants from the recent event laying around, it's more useful to +3 your Jewelry first. (+3 Elven set can last you well into C grade.) For your body/hand/feet/head armor, you gain more by enchanting the extremities first! (AKA enchant the gloves/boots/helm before the body armor.)

Unless you have the money to blow, I strongly suggest NOT going over the safe enchant amounts. (Armor goes *POOF* far too easily.)

As an elven scout, (I have one I use for manor farming the 22-32 level range.) I Prefer to use a +3 Brigandine set , +3 Elven jewelry and a +3 Spinebone * Bastard. (Daggers skills just aren't good enough Pre-40 to drop the duals.) I have some Manticore, but the pdef of it is definately inferior to the brigandine. After 2nd class change this should change, but for 20-40 I prefer the heavy.

BE ADVISED! Light armor and Light armor mastery does NOT boost evasion for DD classes! Only the 'gimp' evasion classes get this in conjuntion with light armor. Thus Orc Tyrants do not get +Evade from light armor but Destroyers do. Dwarves get +eva from armor, hawkeyes do not. The true 'Evasion' classes gain Evasion from the passive 'Boost Evasion' skills (And skills such as acrobatic move) as well as specific skills (Totems, Ultimate Evasion, etc.).

After L40 the set effects from light armor can be better for your class, and the masteries will eventually add enough pdef that heavy armor won't automatically be 'better' either.
i would sell the scrolls and save up for plated leather set, its the best C grade set for physical DDs but it can be a little expensive... you go through D grade so fast risking OE isnt really worth it
Thanks everyone...your help is greatly appreciated.
On the same note, Im also new and have just got a Scroll of Enchant armor grade D. Is it completely safe with no risk at all if I use this on my un-enchanted Clan Oath armour? I know in some games theres always a certain risk with enchanting, a risk of the item blowing up if your skill is too low etc. I *think* from what Im reading theres no risk at all for the first 3 enchants, am I right?

I will cry if my Clan Oath armour blows up.

The Oath armor is just another armor. Same rules apply for (over)enchanting.

Yup but I dont know the rules. :D

What I'm asking is, is it completely safe to use an enchant scroll on D-grade armour that has never been enchanted before? i.e. is the first ever enchant for an arnour part, 0 risk, 100% safe?

I asked some people in game if it was totally safe to use an enchant scroll on my new armour and they didnt know, thats why I'm asking, havent got a clear answer yet.
you can enchant armor to +3 safely. if it is a one piece armor type (no pants available) then you can go to +4 safely. Anything over that and you are taking a risk of 33% failure rate.

Happy OEing

Fen
Thank you ;)
i thought it was higher than 33% there are also blessed enchant scrolls which, if they fail, will return a complete item +0 instead of a wad of crystals. naturally these are considerably more expensive and difficult to get, but good to know about :p
Weapons have a 33% failure rate. Armor/jewelry has a 50% failure rate. And yes, +3 is completely safe for all weapons, armor, and jewelry, and a one-piece armor can safely reach +4.

ncsoft states the failure rate for any item is about 33%
if you are gonna say its any higher at least provide proof
How can anyone provide proof?

I have no proof but after trying lots of my own OEs and listening to others I have to believe that armor has a lower OE success rate than weapons. Otherwise I and a lot of others are just very unlucky with armor (which is, of course, possible).

Just trying to communicate what I have experienced in game; it may be 66% on everything but it really doesn't seem like it.
funny cause ive enchanted 3 pieces of armor and all succeded the sucess rate is obviously 100%!!!
statistics man, i dont like it but its how it works

I disagree, today I tried to enchant 3 pieces of armor and all failed. It's so obviously a 0% chance that I could puke.

Could it.. possibly.. be my sample size??

/sarcasm off.

Edit: <3 the OE threads. If you think I'm being mean to you, I'm probably not actually replying to you. ^^
