Stop compairing Lineage 2 to WoW!

Well, I've seen enough threads about it.

1) Auction House
This will NEVER happen. Why? Because it will destroy the economy. I'll quote an earlier post of mine:

With an auction house, everybody knows exactly what the prices are and nobody will undersell or oversell. This may seem like a good idea but when items like SoM's start selling for 90mil, and the farmers decided to corner the market and make it 220mil, all they have to do is use the auction house (which I'm sure they would probably integrate into a third party program some how) to buy all the SoM's that are cheaper, and sell exclusively at 220mil.
Anybody who wants to buy cheaper is out of luck because whenever a new SoM comes into the auction house at a lower price it's bought by the farmers.
Also anybody who sells their item would want to make as much money as possible and would sell at the new farmer price.

In other words, stop asking for it unless you wnat to ruin the game.

2) WASD Movement
Lineage 2 is based on mouse movement. While I believe that you should be able to remap keys, it's currently not implemented.

3) Pop-up damage (above your heads)
Lineage 2 is a very artistic world. Pop-up damage is cartoonish and would ruin the ambiance of the world.

4) Customize User Interfaces
This will never happen. It would require a complete overhaul of the HUD and I doubt that they'll do it beyond tweaking just to allow hacks to their interface.

5) Duels
Lineage 2 is an open PvP game. Everyone who plays it either likes it, or quits. It's the nature of the beast if you get PK'd whie trying to level. Learn to use the system. If you see someone coming, act pre-emtively and prepare yourself for battle if they make threatening motions.

6) Instanced Dungeons
This game, as I said in #5, is an open PvP game. If you don't like it, this isn't the game for you.

7) Better Customer Support
This one, I have to agree with. Proactive information distribution is non-existent unless it's planned.

Please people, Lineage 2 is an amazing game (despite it's extremely major support flaws). If you want a Lineage 2 game that's a hybrid with WoW, play www.dungeonrunners.com. (http://www.dungeonrunners.com.)

While I agree with you for the most part I hate to break it to you but #5 is on the PTS in Korea for Intelude I believe. If you go to the Interlude forum and look through the videos you should see it. Of course that doesn't stop you from just ganking anyone who challenges you to a duel.
well, you can use wasd movement, just check enter chat. and from what i've heard they're bringing in duels in interlude. so...um, yeah.
Accodring to blah there will be duels in interlude. But they will be sepparet from the normal pvp.
And some more customization wil be nice. For example the ability ty resize all the windows in game and expand the chat options as well. Also font in the chat. It's just too small at the larger resolutions..

Well, that quote convinced me.
Duels are between non-war'd non-tagged people. I ment that all PvP going through Duels wasn't going to happen.
either way, im tired of seeing Wow suggestions also :p silly people make a new thread EVERY time someone notices the 2 games are different instead of posting in one already existing. it's tiresome
Elo, i have no idea why that happened ..
I quoted the point 5 of the OP>

oh of course, we already have like what? 30,000 auction house threads?

oh of course, we already have like what? 30,000 auction house threads?

And of course, every singe one shot down.
No to auction houses!
I like that i have to search for a bargin, its more like a real market place. Nothing beats finding a shop where some one put the wrong price in, my friend found a +7 Dragon slayer with Bleed for 95m ( Im sure was sposed to be 195m), then there was a shop that was sposed to be packaged sale, a Majestic Jewlery set, all pieces but the necklace was 1 adena lol, nothing beats that, auctions house, NO WAY!
I agree for most part but Instances would be welcome, along with some other ideas which are not really just WOW. L2 needs more than just a refined pvp system. the world is lame which is why the grind suxs. Instances or good quest that provide tons of exp would help the l2 world and that comes from alot of other mmorpgs, not just WOW.
Instances would be a place to hide from the open PvP and that should never happen.

More interesting dungeons, quests, areas, whatever... ok.
Instancing them by any means... No.

Instancing is done by weaker games to hug the carebears and hide the bots, so that the community will not cry.

Instanced Kitten #3124
There is nothing wrong with being successful in NA market. Its too bad NCsoft is too pigheaded to conform for our market, hence a heavily korean game that doesnt quite work well outside its intended audience.
L2 would be a crap game if it tried to 'conform to the NA market', that's the problem. You can't make niche mainstream and hope it will still be good - because most niche is only good because it is niche. ^_^ In L2's case, this can be said safely.
If Lineage2 would conform to much to "WoW kiddie standards", people would ask themselves, why not just play WoW instead of L2.

L2 is good, just because it is NOT LIKE WoW. Any step to make L2 "more like" WoW is a step in the wrong direction IMO.

Stepping Kitten
i couldnt have said it better myslef mr. stepping kitten :p

Lineage 2 is Lineage 2 is Lineage 2 is Lineage 2. a seamless, non instanced world is what interested me at the very start.

it's not that i would hate an auction house. it might even be a good thing if we could use it when we want, but still be able to set up private stores. but it would just make it easier for farmers to control our economy.

our worst nightmare might happen....they might buy out EVERYTHING and resell it ALL at crazy prices.....

Well, I've seen enough threads about it.

I disagree with your logic here. Firstly WoW has farmers too and this kind of thing does not happen there. In fact alot of farmers in WoW dont use auction houses as it takes too long to sell items. Also its an auction so if you put up a som for 90 mil and a farmer bid 90 mil for it you could out bid then and get the item. Yes they could out bid you as well but as the bidding went up the profit they would make on a resell would go down.
Secondly you can in lineage do a /findprivatestore and go around and buy up all the soms that people are selling for 90 mil and resell them for 220 mil. Its not as easy as using a auction house but the result would be the same.

Also they are adding instance dungeons in interlude.
And trust me - farmers do buy out cheap stores already.

I can't count the times I've seen

loveSHIJIAN purachsed [absolutely disgusting amounts of] Varnish(s).

But, as you say yourself, it becomes infinitely easier with a sell house (because the current system does not allow for automtaed auctioning, so I doubt an 'auction house' would). It becomes bottable.
1.) Interlude Duel System
2.) Instanced Dino Island
3.) Lame graphic assassination with puffy heads in interlude.

WOW, it is WoW already minus the quests and the smooth leveling.
:p
Well a improvement at the lvling style of l2 would be nice, just to make it more interesting. About auction houses, i just think they would just make it really easy to farmers take over the game economy and ruin it...
2) Hmm are you sure the WASD keys don't work? Maybe because you didn't check the "Enter chat" box in options.
WASD works the same way as balance: in theory. Maybe.

Well, I've seen enough threads about it.

Both are MMO(RP)Gs. It's fair to compare them; trying to analyse what one did wrong and the other right - or just different - and why.

That's why I'll keep comparing L2 to WoW, UO, SWG, ATITD, Second Life and any other MMO I played since I started in 1994, thanks.

Because WoW has more crappy graphics. Just because some features of WoW works very well, doesn't mean the whole game is necessarily worth playing.
Here's my comparsen bettween the two.

Wow = Carebear game that frankly is boring as hell becasue it is too friggin easy. All you do is quest or do raid bosses.. "Yawns".. there version of PVP is a joke.

Lineage II = Much more challenging game becasue of the obstacles they put in our way. Be it Economic, XP, or PVP. Which is why I play L2 and not WoW. E.G. risk and challenge is what I want in a game. Not to be hand held like a baby.

Frankly if they made L2 more like wow.. I would get bored and quit in short order. Changing a game to meet the needs of the crybabies is what ruined DAOC. Seriously folks need to stop whining and work out how to overcome the obsticles rather than come to a forum and cry about it.
Pfffff fanboys.... always in every freaking game :-/
Lineage can take ideas from WOW without becomming WOW. WOW is pansie pvp but Lineage is lacking in world and pve. Lineage2 could benefit from some of the ideas that WOW has in their world. Blizzard is top notch and although I think lineage2 is a more serious game WOW is well done. The world in WOW is much more 'everything' than lineage2. Instead of saying we wont do that because WOW did or EQ did why not say, that may work well in the world of lineage2? take the good ideas and add to lineage instead of closing minds to anything ever used in another mmorpg and saying" it is not lineage so it is not good"
7million gamers playing WOW. We could take so many of them and bring them to lineage 2 if NC actually did some advertising in North America and if the virtual world was more appealing to all levels. A newbie in l2 will find themselves in empty noobie zones killing boring mobs and waiting for respawns over and over again. Dungeon crawls with time limits and bosses at the end would be one way to improve the world of lineage. Keep it open pvp. I agree that instances are wrong for l2 , I was thinking more along the lines of dungeon crawls. Improve the crafting system. There is alot that could be done to lineage2 to make the game more interesting without taking away from its hard core pvp system.
yes all change is bad! there must be no change. sounds like grandma playing bingo for last 80 years....
All change in a given direction may hurt something - like saying 'all changes towards element of graphical violence are probably bad for tetris'.

7 million gamers play WoW because they are actually advertising over here, and because it is mainstream and not niche.

No, a newbie in L2 can actually enjoy many quite interesting things - a very challenging rift, the den of evil, raids that are actually challenging, etc.

Why do you play a game to the basic principles of which you are so opposed?
I play to kill other players. The world of l2 is boring, 2d, and needs major work. the grind is mind numbing. kill predictable mob, wait for respawn, kill again. Why do I do it? so I can get high lvl to kill other toons. no other reason. PVP in l2 is great. castle seiges are great. grind is the most boring unimaginative mind numbing experience. A means to an end....thats all it is. A means in itself would make game so much more enjoyable. A newb in L2 is like a mole in a cats mouth..a plaything. you have the grind but you cant pvp and you wont be able to pvp for months!! if not longer. 75 to pvp. try it before then and just be prepared for some exp lose and alot of dying. I prefer to have a chance, more of an equal footing and no newb will be seeing that before l3 is out.
I never said, that all change would be bad. But every change, that makes Lineage2 more like WoW is bad in my opinion.

Once again, there are a hole bunch of players, who play Lineage2 because it is NOT WoW. because there are no instances, because there are no auction houses. because the game cannot be done from 1 to maxlvl between xmas and new year. because dying involves losses....

I got no problem with improvement. I am doing my own share of suggestions.
However, I am doing suggestions thinking about what part of Lineaeg2 is lacking and would need an improvement. I am not looking at some other game and try to import their stuff into Lineage2.

In details:
You, valiantbd, say, that the world is boring and 2d. I believe, that the graphics of Lineage2 beat the crappy cartoonish 3d stuff of WoW anytime.
You say, you do not like the grind.. Well, then NCsoft created THE game for you, named Guildwards. NO grind, instant action. Lineage2 is meant to be hard and about teamwork and it is in no way meant to be soloed within a efw weks to the top. Being at the top and getting there is an achievement and not a prerequisite.

Steering a little off topic here.

I seem to see this quite often ... How is the Den of Evil challenging? Sure, the orcs there spawn other orcs for their help, but that's about it. The 1/2 HP mobs are as straightforward as it gets; for the orc encampments you just need a group of three or more people - pretty much any random group involving at least a single damage dealer will do, although a healer is nice to have, especially when the group's smaller. So far, the only mildly "interesting" facet is the stun of the vanuls and succubi, but I couldn't find any of the other "interesting" debuffs like poison, bleed or flame.

And the herbs drop there like crazy.

And it has a nice material-making quest (your choice of 9 steel, 12 CBP or 20 leather for each completion).
taking ideas from another game is what all the mmorpg's do. l2 , eq, wow, you think they did not do the research before making the game? Take some ideas from wow to make l2 better. you like the grind? you will be committed. it is ridiculous in l2 and serves one purpose...get high enough to pvp. A grind that is in of itself entertaining would make game much better. as it stand l2 grind is means to end only. guild wars suxs. wow has good points, but people are playing l2 becuase they started playing it before wow even came out. anyone who leaves wow to play l2 now will find the same situation as all the other noobs to l2....they are in a game that has a population of high lvl toons which can kill them at any time. no one is in noobie town to lvl with them. they will have months or more to get even close enough to some form of pvp and then they will die over and over again. give the lil noobs a world to play in so they will continue to play cause as it stands we have a population of toons who have been around since c1,c2 and any noobs are leaving. no fresh blood equals no fresh money for nc which equals the end of l2 with all real efforts being put into l3. more toons quit then join means uder populated servers with less to do than before. game needs some help to make it better, not to make it more like wow. But to take ideas which work from whichever mmorpg can only benefit game.
Try to take an incompetent pick-up group there to make things interesting - or try soloing it.

Try to take an incompetent pick-up group there to make things interesting - or try soloing it.

Incompetent pick-up groups can make everything "interesting", and I am soloing there a lot of time, and it's pretty easy unless you manage to aggro half of an orc encampment at once - which is also easy to avoid.
we already have instances..

rifts for any1

4 sepulchers for 74+

u can use wasd keys.. but its not so useful in L2 with the way the game is designed

Why do I do it? so I can get high lvl to kill other toons. no other reason.

Well, do you mean PK or PvP ?
If it's PK, i'd be inclined to tell you to... well, no offense, but get a life :p, and if it's PvP, i dont know, is it really worth it, i mean all these months (or years) of mindless boring-to-death grind just for that, wouldnt it be more fun to just play a internet-connected video game or something ?

I tried to duo with myself there, and killing things on time was hard - and no, avoiding aggroing several things at least is not at all 'easy', unless you say 'screw EXP' and pull out of the encampnent instead of staying inside it.
pk or pvp it is about challenging other players and not predictable mobs. developing a toon to be suitable for your personal style of combat. been playing L2 for one reason, there is nothing better. not yet. pk is same as pvp. l2 needs work on its pve so pk, or pvp whichever you choose to call it, is not the only reason for playing game. tell me you play l2 for pve and you are the one who needs a life.

Ah, that might be the difference.

I don't hunt there for the XP. ;)

tell me you play l2 for pve and you are the one who needs a life.

I do play L2 for PvE (dont you have caps on your keyboard ?), and when i'm high level enough, yes i'll enjoy PvP and Castle Sieges, but PK (as in "Player Killing") is a whole different story. PK is for losers who think they can take their real life frustrations into a pixel-animated computer game... How pathetic... So, yes, those people really need to get a real life and see the difference

but PK (as in "Player Killing") is a whole different story. PK is for losers who think they can take their real life frustrations into a pixel-animated computer game... How pathetic...

It's your frustration in regard of your powerlessness facing them that I feel in your post, not theirs.

PKs are a part of the game and the game is intended with PKs, even intended for a 70 to crush a 20.
Live with it and stop whining. It's a legit way of playing.
They're not more pathetic than you describing them so.

It's your frustration in regard of your powerlessness facing them that I feel in your post, not theirs.

I know it's Christmas and everything, but... how can someone be so... well it is Christmas so i wont say it :p
My powerlessness ? Can i just LOL ?
How does any of that relate to power or anything ? Do you realize you're talking about a video game ? Once you shut your PC down, everything disapears you know...
It doesnt take intelligence to be "powerful" in Lineage, it doesnt take skill, all it takes is being able to sit on your butt in front of a computer screen !
So i really couldnt care less how "powerful" those real-life losers can feel when doing that !
I've been PKed just once, with one of my alts, i was just getting at Talking Island and boom i was hit out of nowhere and died, and it just made me laugh so hard !!! I mean, how ridiculous is that ?
Ever heard of why some people want to have the biggest cars ? :D

Live with it and stop whining. It's a legit way of playing. They're not more pathetic than you describing them so.

Oh i'm not whining, at all, i'm making fun of them !
And, well, i know you may not wanna hear this, but yes, they are indeed pathetic, just read what that other dude wrote : he's bored so he kills other players !!! Bored ? Man, if you're bored with this game, dont play it ! Do something else ! Dont you have anything else to do with your life than play a video game ? How really pathetic is that ? :p

PK is for losers who think they can take their real life frustrations into a pixel-animated computer game... How pathetic...

Sorry, but that statement (even though it is your opinion), has to be the most uninformed and arrogant post I have seen you make. I have got a perma red, or evil character as I call him, which I do RP a bit on. Actually he went red on accident, (crit ftl T.T), and I was going to work off the karma but people kept attacking me and since people don't flag on reds, as I defended myself, my karma and pk count kept rising.

So since he was labeled a heartless murderer that was what he became. I mean, I still pve on him and I have almost top B grade on him. Being red is a viable way to play the game, but it is more difficult. So when I'm pve-ing and someone tries to drop me, I kill them and their party for assissting them and move on.

I kinda see your point, it's not really the same thing as that other ridiculous dude, but... i dont know... i cant help thinking that RP is something you do with other players, not against their will !
It would be perfectly ok to set up a Race-vs-Race event, in which obviously everyone willing to participate would eventually turn red, but it's a whole different thing to just see someone minding his own business and kill him ! Like i said in the introduction of the Shillien Empire, i like to think that behind this Light Elf is a real person who may not be RPing at all and couldnt care less about what you're doing, so, no, sorry, i really dont see the point of random PK for no reason whatsoever, just for the "fun" of it...
The idiots that say "pwnt" after they drop a d grader in EG. Are just that. I was responding to your post when you said a generalized comment about pkers. Is my character a predator...no. Is he a PKer absolutely. I will kill anyone on that toon who threatens him or his friends. He'll eventually get white again, but it won't be because I died it off.

I RP my red, whether or not the people I kill choose to RP when they attack me doesn't matter. I am playing my character and they become my enemy.
Hm ok, then we dont really have the same definition of "PK" :p
It seems to me that what you're doing is more "PvP", someone threatens you one way or another and you respond by attacking him, and eventually killing him because your character is stronger, and i'm really ok with that, that's one of the cool features of Lineage II, but to me it's called "open PvP", not "open PK" :)
Tell that to the DEV's because my pk count keeps going up! >.<
pk is excatly the same thing as pvp. i dont use capitol letters btw cause i am not writing a thesis here, just spamming useless garble about a pc game. but the threat of being ganked or pk'd is what adds to the world of l2. got to watch your back and be prepared. maybe alot of angry children are the gankers, but god love' em cause it is motivation to endure the sensless grind of l2. the mobs dont pull any surprises but maybe the 12 year old with the botted HE will pop into my dungeon and i better be rdy or i deserve the exp loss. the one distinction between l2 and WOW ( some capitol letters for ya) where l2 really shines is the potential threat from other players. death with consequence. now give me some world to grind in so i dont have to tie myself to the chair just to get into some of that fancy ' S '(capitol S )grade.
Back to the Topic

I agree with you Lukasa about the auction house...
I think at one point thought it would be a good idea to have
but your right.
i feel it would give bots more control and uber overinflate the prices.

even though i have my own suggestions about ideas to
have a more varied economy...i feel this is one change L2 doesnt need.

2.As to customizable user interfaces.....well....
to each his own i guess.....ive had a mod where de's where in kill bill uniforms.........

3.WASD movement uis useless unless they incorporate a jump button, then id agree to it......

4.your right...duals is a silly idea...whats the point to it?

5. instanced dungeons are no problem with me
as long as its not across the board.

i like the idea we have a variety of places and environments
in this game.
it opens it to please a larger selection of players. L2 has a very dynamic build when it comes to environment.
Seige fields, areas to run into other players,
and areas when your sick of seeing people you
can run off to, and areas that are just there to look fantasyesque (i make that word up...or is it real?)

6 .And i have to agree with customer support needing improvement. I want to know exactly what actions are being taken if i post a GM, i want to know exactly whats wrong if something happens with the server.

And i want if possible for NcSoft to every now and again give the CURRENT subscriber some appreciation, not just a promotion to gain new subscribers.
The auction house wouldn't be such a bad thing if it were optional. Keep the player shops but allow the players who would rather play as opposed to sitting in shop till the stuff sold, to use the auction house.
Sure, as soon as you make grinding on mobs optional. Let those that want to go out and grind do so and let the rest "grind" exp at an NPC.

pk is excatly the same thing as pvp.

a pk isnt the same as pvp...pvp is when both peeps are fighting....pk is more of a one sided fight. difference between a player versus player and a player killer.

Sure, as soon as you make grinding on mobs optional. Let those that want to go out and grind do so and let the rest "grind" exp at an NPC.

Now you're comparing apples to oranges. *Of course the same could be said about wow and L2* I know a few people who have a 2nd account simply for private stores. The open market would still be there...and I'm not saying that I am in full support of auction houses, just that the concept of it in L2 wouldn't be as grotesque if it were optional.

And I know people that love to spend most of their time in town playing the market. I consider the market part of the L2 grind. Just as vital as EXP grinding.

You really need one or the other.

An auction house makes it easy to find all the items you want and immediately compare the prices between the sellers. It puts the power of the sale in the hands of the buyer.

The private shop puts the power in the hands of the seller. The buyer has to look around, hopefully find the item you want, run around and see if you can find another one of comparable or lower price and hope that the first item is still there if it turns out that it is the lowest price.

Sure you have /findprivatestore but that only finds those stores that list the item in the format you type.

It also makes the cities seem more lively as opposed to one clump of characters, all clipping each other like crazy in one corner of the town.

However, since the auction house puts the power in the hands of the buyer, I see more buyers going there and ignoring the private shops.

There would have to be significant difference, between the two in order to make both viable methods of commerce.
ok fine....auction houses.....
heres my argument
inflation scares me
i can see A-ss costing 300 adena soon....
i want a control value for the buyer
there isnt one now......
if any of you could suggest one thing to cause deflation
what would it be?
we need a checks and services
to where theres a buyers market as well as a sellers market.
Easy way would be to add drop-only, non-transferable, equivalent gear to the game.

Swords, daggers, bows, blunts, armour, shields... everything and anything you can buy or craft in town... has an equivalent (or multiple equivalents) version that is drop only from mobs.

The trick is, you can't trade these items away to other players. You either use it yourself, or you sell them to an NPC.

Incidentally, such items have an appreciable drop-rate. Nothing insane, but with a frequency that causes the average player to have reasonable expectations to see several drops like these across the course of a grade.

As an added incentive to buying "real" items, these dropped items do not feature SAs and cannot be enchanted beyond +3.

With the inclusion of such items, the crafter market loses its stranglehold on the economy, as now they have the bane of monopolies everywhere: competition.

The truth behind the anti-brokerage arguments that I see is that those who are crafters are afraid of introducing real competition into their monopoly.
Something quite like this is coming in Interlude - although it involves rented weapons, not drops.

We are our own competition already. It's not like we don't particularly care about introducing a real competition into the market, we don't particularly care about introducing another one.

Also, remember NCSoft's mission statement: The Dwarves are to be gaining more economic clout, not less, according to the developers!

No, a newbie in L2 can actually enjoy many quite interesting things - a very challenging rift, the den of evil, raids that are actually challenging, etc.

This post made me think... When I played WoW every place (be it dungeon or new area) had this feeling of uniqueness. In L2 it feels more like a new grindinding spot with a different look.

Let's see the differences:
- mob diversity - mobs are very different from each other, they have their classes, i.e. caster types with high damage/healing skills but really easy to kill (robes, low hp) or tank types meaning high defense,hp but low dmg output. They also cooperate well with each other. You can say that this is implemented in L2, but it is not fully true, i.e. healing/nuking mobs in L2 are generally not easier to kill than other mobs. In L2 people would abuse killing those fragile mobs because in L2 most xp comes from mobs and in WoW from quests. Maybe that's the prime PVE difference between WoW and L2. In WoW you kill mobs while making quests, in L2 you make quests while killing mobs.
- unique mobs - every place has some unique named mobs which are sometimes a bit tougher, have different skills, and more importantly, have unique drops.
- unique drops - nothing drew me stronger into deeper part of dungeons than more and more unique loot. and it's not about "some boss has a higher chance to drop some weapon part". it means that each boss (or any mob in particular area) has some items that are dropped ONLY by him. In L2 only the main bosses have their unique jewellery. Of course it is hard to implement it in L2 because of NC's model of drops and economy, but it could be possible to drop i.e. unique refinement orbs or accessories (i wonder how many new head accessories NC can provide until people get tired of it :P).
- item gathering - in WoW's gathering system you can collect ores or herbs anywhere in the world, but the rarest are usually found in dungeons.

Yep, take all those from WoW and you have L2-like areas where you aren't curious at all what lurks inside dungeons because you know that you can just grind in one place forever.

As for PVP, L2 PVP > WoW PVP but not because of balance and challenging to play classes but because of freedom, openess, politics, socializing and cooperation.

I know there are many good things that L2 has and WoW hasn't but please don't be ignorant. This doesn't mean we must copy/paste WoW (or any other game) into L2 but we can see what things in L2 are lacking and improve them while maintaining it's uniqueness.
WoW sucks......
FTW
I agree with lukasa
lets not compare them anymore
Burn WoW heretics, burn!

Btw, why is everyone always comparing L2 with WoW? There's lots of other games out there. Games that were there even before WoW was being thought up.

Btw, why is everyone always comparing L2 with WoW?

It's the FotM, for the last 2 years? I find this game far more fun than any of the other Fantasy MMO's that I've tried, and it's supposedly more hardcore than they are.
Well the thing is that WoW has so many different features that its hard not to make a suggestion without seeming like youre trying to copy them. 2 or 3 months ago I made a suggestion of having battlegrounds in the game, a place larger than the collesium (spl?) where clans can just duke it out with no penalties. Needless to say, I got told to go back to WoW...the thing is that I've never played WoW before then and had no idea that they had it.
I'd rather compare L2 to UO.

UO had the best parts of L2 and WoW and much more.

Unfortunately noone has been clever enough to give UO better graphics and keep its feel.

We would then be talking about developing lumberjacking (*sigh* I miss that) and weop skills by using them, we would have our own instanced houses where we can store trinkets and memories, we could have fel and tram and those really cool raids in fel where you have to work up through 7 levels of mobs while others can attack you.

Comparing WoW to L2 is like comparing Holdens to Fords, we should be comparing Holdens to Porsches.
Um, Marcus. Holdens??? Is that an Oz car of some sort????
Must've been what Mad Max drove... Last of the V8 interceptors!
Who cares if it is supposedly FOTM in here? It still sucks, and if it sucks, it doesnt deserve to be used as something that you compare to L2. Besides, some of the ideas are older than WoW, so you could use those games as a reference instead of mentioning WoW every time you make a suggestion concerning something that is not truly _unique_ to WoW.

UO > WoW in every aspect.

Mining was more fun than lumberjacking, but fishing, ooooh that was some great fun. All those fish steaks, yummm.
Not to compare Lineage 2 to WOW thats funny...its not comparing...Its simply noting differences in game play and different competition from one MMO to the other which is fine since NCSOFT does compete for revenue from other MMO's out there including WOW and there other brands such as COV and COH. So no there is nothing wrong with comparing the to or Lineage II to any other MMO out there.

Nothing wrong with comparing them, of course.
I think what it boils down to more than anything else is the fact that Lineage2 is supposedly a niche game, and is supposedly not intended to directly compete with these other games. Older players don't want to change a thing, as they fear it will ruin the game for them.
I think Lineage2 looks far too cool for new players who stumble upon it to accept its "flaws" and continue playing, and some of them love it enough to make suggestions or comparisons to other games with features they liked for consideration.
I think what people are irritated by is the complaining associated with these comparisons, not the potential benefits of such comparison.

Exactly so....there are a lot of things about games like WoW that could be of benefit to a game like L2. And visa-versa.

It's pretty naive to think that the devs for both companies aren't looking at their competition and trying to determine what aspects of each game are good, bad, and indifferent, what can be used...and how any changse will effect long term game play.

In terms of an Auction House which was so put upon by the original post...complete price control like that would be possible just as easily in the games current fashion...it would take longer to scan the shops to make sure you had
"EVERY SINGLE SOM" but /findprivatestore "som" works pretty darn well.

The fact is farmer groups don't bother, and neither do players. The end result of inflation is simply a decreased value of adena...which means that they make the same amount of "RL" currency for a game item more or less regardless of how many million or billion adena is used to purchase it....and as game ITEMS become more common then RL currency will buy them cheaper and cheaper.

The scenario you are referring to would only work if RL currency was taken out of the equation, which means that the scenario wouldn't apply to farmers, but rather to players. And players couldn't hold the market captive in easier than they could hold every single castle against the whole rest of the server...there are limits to how far you can stretch.

Regardless, I don't think we need an auction system...L2 doesn't kick you offline after being afk for so long, so there is no reason you can't sell stuff while you're asleep.

If they started kicking people that were afk for a long period of time and implimented an auction house in order to cut down on server lag I might be more interested.
lilune, go ahead - explain what other than the hardcore nature distinguishes Lineage II as a game.

Looks? Some cash shop games look just as good or better.
The market? That's the main thing people seem to want to change, although I personally think it's one of the game's greatest assets.

TS4DKIEL, you know that /findprivatestore SOM not only doesn't find all SOMs in private stores, it doesn't find the ones from shout deals either. But who would bother shouting if there was a convenient option?

Dynasty/Covenant held most of Devianne for ages, surrendering castles only at their whim. I believe a similar situation was the case on Erica and Teon, but I'm not as sure as far as that's concerned.

I have to say, I honestly haven't had server lag issues in a very long time. If they want to cut down on that, it would be more sensical to revamp who gets sent what information - it would probably also help make life harder on cheaters. There's no way to display enemy HP if they're never sent your way.
Oh I know that the /findprivatestore doesn't find them all Maline...my point was that controlling the market in the way that the OP claims would make the Auction House "bad for the economy" isn't a valid reason not to have one.

Invincible held a large part of Lionna for a long time on a few different occassions...but it's not in the interests of players to "buy every single SoM just to jack up the price".

As I indicated, and as you know, inflation wouldn't effect the "real money value" of an item over much, and if we cut out all of the farmers so that there was no method for ANY player to get additional in-game funds, so that having a monopoly on the price of this or that truly would effect the server as a whole then the players that couldn't farm for whatever it was just would do without until they had the cash. I was in B grade till almost 72 on my first toon...it didn't effect my overall gaming experience all that much.

And in the end...because there was no way a player could afford the "ridiculously high" price of the monopolized commodity the price would fall to one that the populace could bear. That's just a standard economic truth.

I like the idea of an auction house in and of itself...I just don't think we're losing anything atm by not having one, and you missed the basis for my post it would seem...that being that while the whining that goes on about what this or that game has that L2 doesn't is rather irritating, comparing them in order to get ideas for future expansions is not only going to happen regardless of the OP's desire to the contrary, but is in fact, beneficial.

I think Lineage2 looks far too cool for new players who stumble upon it to accept its "flaws" and continue playing, and some of them love it enough to make suggestions or comparisons to other games with features they liked for consideration.

Change that to "many new players", and I might agree, since I'm one of those new players that like it as is.
One thing I noticed is that it's harder to move with the mouse in intense PvP situations, do you just have to spam left click different points of the terrain or attempt to use the keyboard to move?

Also is there a way to get around holding the CTRL key the entire time while PvPing?

P.S. I'm new

Some people will say "use a macro" for your pvp skills but the macros never worked well enough for me. I bought a mouse with a programmable button that allows me to hold down "ctrl" with my thumb if need be.

I personally like the point and click. You just have to get used to it.
Once the person's name turns purple or "flags" you don't have hold CTRL, just attack them like any other mob. Or thats how it works for me. :p This game is like playing a 3rd person, 3D Diablo 2 of sorts. The clicking become pretty intuitive after a while...especialy if you have your F-Key short cut bar set up right.

Personally, I use a Nostromo. To shift into PvP mode, I hit a button to switch me into red light mode.
Which does the ctrl click for me.

I actually tried the nostromo. I liked the features but couldn't get used to the "feel of it". Hence the mouse.

Usualy, I just assist to someone in party, and then my char runs to the range of my freesing flame on its own. When I run I just use follow. Both due to my lack of combat experience, not to powerfull computer and assisting being a good strategy in pvp.
That sounds like a good strategy thanks, have to try it out sometime.
