What's the deal with this. I was just completing a quest and ready to have a break from the game for a while, when just outside the TI village gate I get hit for a truely insignificant amount of damage and this guy, I think his name was Ramonne or some such, says "Lets fight, I'm level seven". The toon was I'm using is level 16, over twice his level. Now I don't want to get a rep as a griefer so I politely decline his offer and move off. This seems to annoy him so he starts following me calling all sorts of names and threats. Then starts shouting them.
I'm all for the PvP game, but I'm at a loss to explain this sort of behavior. Is this sort of thing common of did I just run into some random nut job?
Common but still a nut job.

he of whom you speak is a high level looking to farm PVP points. he wont hit you until you hit first.

so let him call you names, likely he is shouting to nobody else and to no avail anyway.

make friends with a good clan that will back you up. get yourself some gear and have yourself some fun while youre at it.

got server? some of us like to come down to noob towns and redefine the word noob.
i bet the second you flagged he woulda threw on some high grade gear and 1 hit you
he them woulda stood over your corpse and explained what a noob you were

trust me man you won that fight
There are all kinds of strange people in this game, some stranger than others.

I remember when I started one of my Dwarves, I was just outside of town and someone came up to me and started attacking me. I promptly killed him.

His response was to start yelling that I was a scammer because he was dead and I had just walked away!!!

Weird
Back on October, when the trial offer was up, I strived to help a RL friend at TI with my lvl 43WS (give some gear and some money). I fell upon a noob clan (5-7) members gatehopping and flagged me. They were not more than 10lvl the higher char. I tried to tell them not to flagged me and I hit one with my Yaksa +4 (no SSC) by mistake. He died instantly :) The others kept hitting me hard making 0-1 damage to my +4 fp for 3-5 mins. I did not kill any other toon, got bored and left the site. That kind of PvP is a disgrace. It was funny what noobs u can encounter in the game. I am also new at this game but not soooo noob. :)
Luckily my friend signed in the game and after the trial and we enjoy the game very much now.

Could go either way, sadly.
Spudnik is probably right. There is a good chance that the other player was waiting to be flagged at which time he would have suddenly been a whole lot higher than "level 6".

The thing is, on TI it could also have been someone who is actually lvl 6 who either doesn't understand the game or who is a nut job.

I took some gear to a friend once on TI--some lvl 15 mage was serially killing all the other lowbies. When I asked the red to leave the lowbies alone he attacked me. So I killed him. He came back like 4 or 5 times and attacked me over and over in the next few minutes. I killed him in a couple hits every time (melee). I guess he was either so stupid or so mad that I had interrupted his 'fun', that he couldn't figure out this wasn't working for him.

I'd 'bet' the op's screaming, taunting, fighter wanna-be was a lurker. I wouldn't dismiss the 'nut job' option out of hand though--it was on TI after all!
Had the same problem once. Low lvl clannie was getting ganked outside of TI village. I took my SPS down there, he was level 62-63 at the time, in no-grade mages equipment. Even with no grade equipment I could one shot these guys. I think one of them got mad likes yours, he kept coming back and I kept killing him. He had a lot of karma though never did start to change color. One time I killed him he dropped his dagger. He came back and demanded that I return his dagger! lol So I equiped the dagger and killed him with it! He didn't come back anymore after that.
nut job. just stay away. more grinding, less hanging around jackascii's. don't worry, you'll get enough pvp before its said and done, someone somewhere always needs killin. you recognized a waste of your time, and did the right thing. at least it only takes you like 10 mobs at the most to get back 5% instead of a couple days.
farming pvp points = lame.

My pvps are legit.
A long while back I started a new toon on a different server than my home. I'm out on TI grinding when some caster comes up and starts hitting me. Mind you, he has a C-grade buff pet following him around. He says, "come on, doesn't anyone want to PvP me?" So I just say back, "lose the buff pet and we'll talk." He says "she won't interfere, I promise."

Morons. L2 has no shortage of them.
Yep... Sounds like the joker that I ran into on Lionna just outside of Gludin. First time he one shotted me for over 300 Points, the next time past, his Unicorn hit me for 2k+
