Poling outside of catacombs

Ok, everyone who poles in catas / necros stands either in or on a corner.

Any tips for poling outside? I've tried standing next to rocks and trees but the mobs never seem to stack up.
Yes, it doesn't work as well outside as in a dungeon. I just put my back against a tree or something, like you, and it's better than nothing.
I guess we're doomed to live inside dank nasty dungeons then :o
how many mobs do you usually pole?
depends.
me and a friend sometimes pole in catas.
he beeing a warlord, and me aTH with pole. we got EE and SE for healers. all outside buffs.
if we pull easy mobs, light blue-green, 20 mobs or so.. if they are white-pink, 8-12 mobs.
its the healers call. if they can keep us alive, and keep their MP up, pull as many as you can.
Sometimes is worth letting the mobs bunch up on you at a spot, take a couple of hits, then take a couple of steps back. That seems to help em stack up nicer outdoors. Combine that with a wall/tree/rock or whatever and usually works out ok.
Add to that making sure when you pull you get a good line towards where you are gonna stop, you can usually get em lined up nicely.

But indoors does work better.
The few times I've poled outside, I've always gone after the non-broken group mobs (the ones that actually stay together as one unit). Like Dead_One said, hit once, move, hit again, and if your lucky, your now hitting them all, or will have to move one or two more times.

Dont just step back though for the group mobs. They try to stay spread apart, even regular mobs try to spread themselves evenly around you. The trick is to move around the mob your targetting and hitting (usually the group mob boss). That way that mob doesnt walk to another spot if you move too far out of its range, but the other mobs will keep moving to and from, eventually having them all nearly ontop of each other. But there are times that you will have to step back to reposition the mobs.
