Well, I am all for expanding the community, as I am the administrator of the german community fansite :)
However, I see community sites like fan clubs or like a tool. If I got a hammer to hit nails, and I like that hammer and it is a good hammer and I already hit 99% of all nails with it, then why would I want to use a different hammer ?
stratics is superb in terms of guides. I even point my users to stratics, when it comes to quest guides, as I got no time to give all the quest info in german.
The fansite business (it is a business) is fought over though. Most customers aer settling for one, maybe two sites, that they check on a regular basis or even daily.
You are trying to get into this market and get customers from other sites to visit yours.
For that you need to present something, that noone else got. For a start, that would be "no advertising" which in unique for your site yet. However, once you got a base of customers, you will be unable to maintain it, without some source of income, which typically is advertising. You would need a heckload of content to get your users to pay for it.
I am in the lucky position to have no competitior.
www.lineageII.de (
http://www.lineageII.de) is old and established in the german community. A new german fansite would have a very dificult stand against us, as again, that other site would need to have something, that we do not offer.
You, as an english board, are in competition with stratics, warcry, l2blah and probably a dozen other sites, that I do not know, or which names are banned here ;)
And as such, you need to give some sugar to lure all the flies to your site ;)
Establishment Kitten :)
