Pets aren't worth it, NCSoft is broken

Pets are incredibly weak, and even when you believe you are in a safe area, somehow this game sniffs you out and pops a mob that NEVER pops in your 'safe' zone in order to aggro and kill your pet, to the tune of a whopping 20% exp penalty. You will spend 2500a + on a res scroll to recover your pet. Far more if you get a bpetrez to recover that HEINOUS 20% loss, which even YOUR CHARACTER never suffers.

What the HELL is wrong with you, NCSoft? I accuse you of being in cohorts with the RMT. You have ridiculously high equipment costs, you have ridiculously high resurrection costs and it is ridiculously easy to get killed (in terms of pets). Either you don't want people to actually raise pets at all, or you are trying to make money off of the gamers. Look, NCSoft, just go free to play and get your ****ed Game Shop going. OK? You have no business being a subscription game, and moreover, EVERYONE knows you have shares in IGE. It's BRUTALLY obvious. Stop kidding around, NCSoft.
What brand of tinfoil is your hat made from??
2500 a are nothing.

Pets are a luxury good.

If you really think the kind of money needed to buy a petBRez are encouraging RMT, I can only laugh at you. The fact that this game has the novel concept of 'not dropping enough money in your lap to buy everything you need and then some just by grinding' doesn't make it so you have to buy adena.
+1

Wooooooooooo

Luxury item be the truth

If you don't want to care for the pet, sell it. Someone will come along that is willing to take the time to level it; I wouldn't give up my wolf for any amount of Adena, even though he isn't quite as powerful as he could be.
Keep apologising for NCSoft lol. The incredibly broken pet system is more of a last straw than anything else. Again, 20% death exp loss is incredibly stiff. (or have you forgotten that lowbie CHARACTER penalty is 9% and drops to 4% at higher levels?)
Square-Enix are crusading against RMT (and successfully I must add). Blizzard have realised the mistake they made in free-moddable client-based systems and are crusading against RMT as well. NCSoft? They are crusading against private servers. Meanwhile, Franz is RIFE with adena buying gits: it is the most expensive server at $57US for 20KK adena, compared to an average cost of 21-25US , 12-14US on the most depressed servers. NCSoft are obviously more interested in their own Corporate Revenues than in RMT.
There is no excuse for 20% exp loss on pets when 9% is the loss in PCs (4% at higher levels). Please explain your logic.
Pets are a luxury item? Then so must equipment in general. Once again, bury your heads in the sand like good ostriches. NCSoft are in bed with RMT and are spending their money to buy FBI and US State Judicial System to crusade against, of all things, private servers. Do NOT let me hear you /shout 'I hate bots' EVER again, you silly apologisers.
PS: oh and Lissanna, obviously you are either a) old time and very very established, or b) an RMT adena buyer, but let's get this clear NOW. ALL pet owners 'care for' their pets. It absolutely SUCKS when a pet owner who 'CARES FOR' their pet goes out of their way COUNTLESS TIMES trying to find a 'stay spot' for their 'cared for' pet, only to have a random-pop aggro said pet and kill it-- for 20% exp loss. A random pop that NEVER showed up for the 50-odd godda**ed mobs killed just to get it raised 8-10%!! Don't even TRY to patronise me, girl (guy/whatever you are).
Stalin: So, do you ever post constructively?

Sounds to me that you just don't know what you're doing. I've been raising pets since C3 (I do the hatchling quest at least once a week).

Don't fault the game because you don't know what you're doing.
jkoster, 20% death penalty gets OLD. When you and i die, we don't pay 20%. I know what Im doing. I have also got very bitter at incredibly random pop-aggroes that destroy my time spent. This has also become kind of a last straw and a reason to grandstand on a bigger issue: namely the incredible expense of Lineage overall. Constructive posting? That depends on point of view. I don't buy adena, but if you study the game-frame economy of L2, it definitely promotes it. Do you buy adena for your consumables?
+1 - everybody is asleep, padlock will get here in the morning, I'll bet.

Keep it alive. That's the point. If you can't manage to keep it alive, then you deserve to spend the money to buy the scroll, whichever scroll you choose to use.

If you're going afk, unsummon your pet. The only thing broken here is your ability to accept that your pet's death is your fault.
First off, you sure it's -20% ??? As far as I know, it's 10% per death, not only that, the pet brez scrolls is so **** cheap that there no point not using them.
I don't know about jkoster, but I do not buy, nor do I condone doing so, and that's not just because my clan/alliance doesn't condone it. It's almost literally slavery, since many farmers pay pennies on the dollar to those that actually do the work of gathering it. It's also against the terms of the EULA. Just because some people do it doesn't make it right.
I have never bought adena, and actively take a stand against it. However, when it comes to pets, let me say this:

Raising pets is not for everyone. You need either a hate skill, or some method to keep your pet from being chewed on while they in turn chew on the beastie.

I am a moderator over at www.l2danceswithwolves.com (http://www.l2danceswithwolves.com) and have been an active member there for quite some time. Pets, you see, take a specific frame of mind.

And now to address the true meaning behind your posts:

Don't let your own issues cloud the truth. I suck at making money, but I manage to get by just fine. The key is attitude. Entitlement (meaning you think that just by being you deserve everything) is far from how it works.

This is a game that rewards work and effort. Approach it with that attitude, and be willing to help others and you will find it is repaid easily ten-fold.

I have never wanted for anything in this game.
Funny guy.

I have never had such a "mystical assassin" mob spawn on my pets. I raised a hatchling, a wolf and a cougar. Yes, they died pretty often in my early days, until I LEARNED how to keep them alive. That is the job of the pet owner, you know ?

And about NCsoft buying the FBI, I can only laugh. You do not need to pay to get law enforcement into action.

And another big conspiracy point for you, for your foolish "RMT in bed with NCsoft". They make money of them, true.. cause the farmers need accounts and they need a lot more accounts, than I do. I am paying one account for years. A farmer is needing a new account every few months. Suprising, that lately there were repors of all servers showing a significal lower farmer population and you still claiming that NCsoft is protecting them. Face the facts, if they wanted to, they could just produce the adena themselves and sell it with another company and we would not see any bots in game. Keep the cheating buyers happy and keep the legal players happy, who do not see any bots ever. Strange, why noone got this idea.

You however (stalinfalcon) are the prime example of a forum troll and you are lucky not to be crushed and banned by now.

Steel Kitten
haha i love this post, made me laugh thanks :D
Just love how the post starts out in a relaxed tempo and then moves up to a complete frenzy and i can almost see the OP spitting foam out of his mouth when wrinting.

And btw pets is not that expencive and not that hard to lvl.
A pet rez scroll cost almost nothing, actually i wished that i could buy me one for that price when i die.
So if you think 2500 for a normal rez is alot of adena my advice is to wait until you get higher in lvls to raise one.
Disregarding the money issue for now....(Although I truly believe that the drops vs expenses ratio IS out of wack.)

NCSoft broke pets waaaaay back in C3 when they suddenly changed them to instantly attract aggro. And NO DAMMIT, you should not *have* to be a 'certain' class (or class type) to enjoy having a pet. Nor should you have to spend a zillion adenas to keep it fed. (Food costs get stupid crazy pretty fast.)

In short NC really needs to take a step back and make the game less of a chore when it comes to 'the little things'. Yes, yes there needs to be something to bleed off the adena...but thats what enchants and Shots are for. Raising the cost of consumables or teleports *HURTS* the game, by taking adena away in the worst way...from those who either need the help (badly I might add) or by making partying and supporting each other expensive (Via costly ports...the 'summon' party thing just isn't going to cut it.) when the game should be encouraging it.

Either NCSoft needs to go back to C2 and reset the aggro rules, or they need to boost pets stats and/or give *everyone* some skills to keep their pets alive. (Reverse Transfer Pain, Pet heals, All aggro from pets goes to owner, Mdef buff...etc, etc.) Because, lets face it. It's bad enough that most mobs have better stats than most players...having them taunt you by [censored] the corpse of your dead pet every 5 minutes isn't 'fun'.
There is those mobs who spawn in just to attack your pet, in fact there is even some mobs who spawn in to attack you but they are even more rare.

One place you can see the mobs who spawn just to attack your pet you can find them in a few areas around beast farm example.

Exactly. I hate how as soon as you manage to train a beast, you have 2 or 3 mobs running towards it.

I gave up on the whole leveling a hatchling thing a long time ago, to me it simply is not worth the aggravation.
*Offers Schmusekatze a mouse* You're right, NCSoft could do like one of the other big game companies did (I think it was Sony Online Entertainment) and sell Adena via PlayNC, but how would that help those players that don't buy it, and don't ever want to?
Raising pets requires patience and requires tender loving care....Patience! Pets are a luxury so keep in mind PATIENCE!!!! (buffs, heals, armor help as well :) )

Raising a pet is not an NCSoft problem, it is a player patience and learning curve problem :)
Agreed. I'll level my wolf when I don't want to level one or the other of my characters.

you as the pet owner must learn to protect your little one, L2 pets are not meant to solo monsters. and if 2500a is expensive for you, you should probably set your critter aside until you are higher level... there are teleport fees that cost more than that >.>

also i think the 20% exp penalty you mentioned is actually 10%. and that is a vast improvement from the original penalty of 50-60% per death.
This thread is just a soap box for the OP to promote the NC is in bed with farmers argument. I used to think that too. Until one day it dawned on me that NC doesn't need to pay another company to sell adena for them, when they could do it right on this website.

Get the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth. Listen to what everyone has been saying. Pets are inexpensive to raise and play with. They are a luxury, and one most people cannot afford to live with. 10% is hardly anything in terms of pet exp. My strider gets that back in two mobs. Heck, even if they took a full level every time one died, it really wouldn't be that big of a deal. Pets level quite a bit faster than their masters. In addition, if you get your pets at the level of each pet's quest, your pet will level with you quite well, and will rarely be able to pull aggro from you.

In the end, when you make a post, you should make the post about what you intend to make it about, instead of veiling it in an otherwise pointless thread topic. This thread is really about your inability to make money while you watch other players making a lot of money. I personally find it funny when noobs come up to me and tell me I ebay money. I have only had an a grade warsmith for like two chronicles now. There's no way I can make enough money crafting with him to pay for anything, right?

and if 2500a is expensive for you, you should probably set your critter aside until you are higher level

Rofl. That's one mob. I guess I'd better IGE some more money, huh OP! :D
:p same here.

At level 16. xP
obviously, his pet was yoinking all the drops.
@OP: if you think pet rez is effecting the ecconomy wait until you see the prices of clan halls...pets are worth it, they are FREE rewards from a quest, which help you kill mobs and break up the grind a bit. they offer an alternative playstyle to any class that uses them. and they can be sold.
The problem with the pet system is that classes that summon are tied to it. To make fundamental changes in how pets operate would also affect how summons operate.

Not to mention, if pets actually became a factor in PVP there would be further gameplay balance issues. This would in effect be a nerf against any class that uses a summon.

Its surprising how many ppl don't even realize this.

Many "pet nerfs" were aimed at specifically at summoners, not at the pets. Pet aggro is an example of this. Which by the way makes summoners the most easily trainable class in the game. : P

Well, its a reason for them to sepparate sumons from pets. It's really annoing to see a mob spawn, run after my wolf, kill it and just stand there, not carring about me at all..
Stalin I've managed to lvl my wolf from 15-26 in 2 days...with no difficulty at all...don't sit here and plead you know what your doing when you obviously don't...I randomly picked up lvling a wolf for there may be an upgrade for wolves interlude...with no experience lvling pets It's managed to be one of the easiest things I've done in a while...so Stalin just because you lack basic skills doesnt mean NCSoft is at fault...your just a whiny lil [censored] who wants somone to blame.
I dont understand you all. Why is it that everything NCSoft does gets accepted so easily?

Pets in Lineage 1 were fine. These critters can easily stand against a equal lvl player. They give advantage to its user for lvling it.

Pets in Lineage 2 however are way far from this concept and if you cant see this then wow. A lvl 55 strider will never stand against a healer for example. A big *** dragon with sharp tallons and a horn that could tear cars apart cant dent a equal lvl player. These critters were said that they could do that in the beginning but thats hardly the case aint it?

If you take time to lvl pets you would expect that they could stand for their own but they dont.
Remember that there are classes that can effectively not use pets - making them so powerful would be a slap in the face to DAs, Necros (OK, they deserve one) and all three true summoners as well as warsmiths.

Fair? Not fair.

and pets in Wow are fully capable of pvp and pve without the help of thier masters... the point? this is L2 not L1 or Wow or any other game, its a different setup. pets are not MEANT to be awesome in pve or pvp, they are for show. if you want a pet that's strong roll a summoning class!
I love my dragons because they've provided a much needed break from the usual grind. Now that I've reached yet another in-game goal, I can take a break by having them on my XP runs again.

Pets are currently a luxury, in a way. The lack of true strength to stand toe-to-toe versus someone made it clear these would be for folks who just wanted to raise pets. Most people don't take the time to do it, then get mad when the $20 million adena "Scaly Taxi of Dusk" they just paid for can't damage a blade of grass. :)

If at some point these types of pets get some love from NC I'll be one of those folks rejoicing. For now, I'm quite happy raising my baby beasties just for the fun of it.
Ah really, other then striders for running around, who actually seriously levels pets... I bet I could count the amount on my hands..

agreed, i had wait till I subclass before i could effectivly begin leveling a pet. Leveling pets in a party with you can be a great way to gain exp for it. unfortunetly classes like summoners don't gain this luxury.

Pets are incredibly weak, and even when you believe you are in a safe area, somehow this game sniffs you out and pops a mob that NEVER pops in your 'safe' zone in order to aggro and kill your pet, to the tune of a whopping 20% exp penalty. .

I usually find an area in the catacombs and hit the "stay" command. then pull agroe to the pet. works 100% of the time.
that .....
and....
i keep a low level alt around and farm lower 20 raid bossess...or whichever is within 5 levels of the wolf i'm raising.
try that out instead of hunting in high agroe areas with your pet.
we are about to have a few wolves break the level 30's into the level 40's range raising them that way.
.........
so....our way works...seems like yours doesn't....you should try our way and see if it helps a bit...
......
as for NcSoft having there hands in adena farming
yah i have that opinion as well, and i think they dont offer the services online at the website is because they don't want customers to openly acquire funds.
Also...business wise NcSoft is just finding there way through a capitolist culture. having your hands in different baskets is not a bad thing for a corporation. the eula never said NcSoft can't have there own adena farming...they just said YOu can't. Cause they want the profit from there product.
...
but theres flaws in my thinking.
and the flaw is this
why would they need a bot to collect adena?
wouldnt they just code the money?
.....
so even though i beleive that they have there hands in the adena sales dept.
Its possible that its not nessecarily true...just an opinion.

It does indeed. It's one tactic I'm using with mine.

Hey, that's how I level my sin eater.

:D
i love the buffalo. I think I'm on my 4th one. Feel like im being cheated when they get to level 80. It is like having a constant heal pot going. The baby pets are made for aoe'ers, escpecially dwarves. if I get 10 100hp heals while whacking away, that could be the difference between life and death. would be nice to armour it better, and buy skills. maybe have a mp recharge.
huh....

Half the people posting here don't know what there talking about.

Pets are awesome and not expensive, the game is slow, hard, and fun. If you don't like the cost or difficulty of L2 then join a private server or WoW.

Lineage2 was mean to be hard and slow. Although I must say hardcore bots ruin the game, its still awesome. Also, no one hear should really complain about bots, the supply every server with cheap adena 9/10s every server buys.

Games are to easy to find loops and other bugs or programs to cheat them, and pets are easy to keep alive, I've hutned with my dwarf and wolf for 6 stright hours without him getting touched, in an aggro infested area. I don't have a hate skill of any kind.

So don't complain about lineage2 cause you suck and have no patience.

*And by hardcore bots, I mean the crack heads that hit lvl 78/78 in 2 months.

Those aren't bots. They're just using Nostromo. :)

First you complain that some people say that its to hard to lvl a pet; and that it should be hard...
Then you say that we shouldent complain about bots when you can get cheap adena?
If you buy adena you are not really playing like you should; so perhaps you should go play WoW instead so you dont have to buy adena as its a more easy game. Seems like you need that.

Ps i will make a disclamer if i missunderstand your post as i find it stupid that you would say such a thing.
lets not get offf off topic.....
its true...lets close the argument...
1.wolves are easy to level if you know where to go
