i hope this is not one of 100 threads about the same thing ...
so i have assumed that there is no point in getting any B grade armor set for spellhowler, since my demon set gives me more m.attack.
my question is about a weapon - currently i have +3 homunkulus (acumen). i don't want to risk breaking the weapon overenchanting.
and if i ever get a B grade weapon it will be again only +3 with SA.
considering numbers valhalla+3(acumen) is better than homu+3(acumen), but is it worth it?
now about my playstyle - i solo on 1-2 shot mobs and i don't plan to get into PvP much.
maybe it will make sense to get "magic power" weapon instead of acumen one. the problem is there is no Bgrade weapon with SA magic power - or is there?
and my final possibility - skip whole Bgrade weapon and focus on getting Agrade sword of miracles - either with acumen or with magic power...
Sorry but i think it is one of those threads.
Well a b grade only uses 1 instead of 3 bsps so hunt for alot longer. Well for me i got a +6 homu and used it into the 60ies. If ure cdling then i think u can keep the +3 and still lvl fast and safe.
what about nightmare robe after 61? i see the benefits of DCset, but nightmare looks great ^^ and finally enhances m.attack more than demon, doesn't it?
The difference may not be big, but it is there, biggest difference is the P.def who you may want at that stage, sure you can still do fine in demon I'm sure but nightmare's P.def would be way better.

besides that demon set reduces HP, so I wouldn't hasitate to get nightmare instead of demons ;)
just that Bgrades seem useless to me.. :(
Worth noting that beside the increase in MAtk, NM robes also have slower casting even than demon robes (nevermind comparing it to DC), and some small boost on MRegen that some people say is 'very noticable' (although I suppose it can't outweigh extra BtMing you can do in DC).
The extra damage does not weigh up against the extra MP costs for nukers most of the time. It does, however, easily make more power per MP for melees - therefore used mostly by darkelven fighters to make their skills land/do more.
if DC robe than SoM with Magic Power - or it is not worth it comparing to Acumen?
I've only seen a handful of mages ever use NM robes or Magic Power SA's. And for the ones who were using either of these, most hunted in groups -- which is itself a rarity for an SH. Most of the SH's who solo use DC, Demon or Avadon and an acumen weapon.
Going back to the original post, I made it through most of B grade with a +3 SOES/BB (this was before SOV's had any SA's, let alone acumen) and Avadon (because Zubei was just too ugly to wear :D; and Demon Gloves were still rare and cost 30 bazillion adena at the time if you did happen to find a pair for sale).
NM robes give more M.atk then Zubei and Demon even if Demon give +4 INT. You may forget something, but Nightmare got +8% M.atk AND +2 INT.
Just did a quick test of the three sets using L2Calc. (Since my SH isn't quite high enough, nor do I have all 3 sets.)
Using a +2 Hellknife as my weapon...(May as well and that IS the weapon I have.)...these were the final Matk stats.
(All robe sets)
Demon set = 712 Matk
Zubei Set = 670 Matk
Nightmare Set = 715 Matk
So yeah, Nightmare is better than Demon....but it's a incredibly small difference considering the grade and cost differences between the two!
(DISCLAIMER: As the L2guru notes state, this is a beta app...these numbers may not be 100% correct.)
and what aboot the - on wit. u cast much longer then normal and lsoe tons of time, im sps and wear nm to, i only used it 20% and sold it. DC + SOM + ACU = Best choice FOR ALL NUKER AT A GRADE
thank you for sharing your game experience, that's what i have been looking for.
i had rather different thoughts on that - when i solo i care for maximum dmg made per shot. it saves shots and saves money. faster casting is crucial in pvp that is obvious, maybe also in groups - to launch the spell before melee DDs kill it :) but in fact it doesn't save anything just time.
while soloing i considered enhancing m.attack as much as possible the most efective thing to do.

Always different opinions about DC or NM, personally I agree with the high M Attk buid, with decent casting speed.
What's wrong with Maj? With some +int tatts the -1 would probably not be that noticeable. The added MP and Mana Regen has to be nice. Plus you still get the 15% casting speed.
I never really understood why DC was the be all end all nuker robe.
On my SH on Franz I stayed in Karmian until DC robe set. B passes by so quickly... I see no point in investing in B.
This is only for pve though. If you think you will pvp on that character... stick with karmian. No demon. You don't need demon to pvp. Not if you have a +3 homu. You should already 2 shot single hp mobs with hurricane/ deathspike and 1 shot with cdl. Taking +4 int over -25% ( or whatever it is ) in cast speed in comparison to karmian is just negligent.

Because casting speed is key in PvP.
With Nightmare you can out damage someone several levels above you but you also get the lovely chance of being interupted.
Also, as far as the Nightmare/Demon argument, people should keep in mind that Nightmare does more damage the higher level you go (plus better armor and more mp).
As far as PvE goes, I used Karmian all my C grade (no weapon SA's at that time in the game) and it was fine. Went Avadon and had that until a few levels into A grade and it was also fine.

All in all, DC set bonuses make for an overall better hunting experience. Casting speed (Wit +2 AND 15%), more pdef, more foot speed (walking has never felt so GOOD), reduction in spell interruption and increased resistance to para.
The reality is at A grade most SH have access to empower. With the exception of those that CDL, this basically means that you will 2 shot most mobs no matter what armor set you use. It is extremely unlikely that you will regularly kill a mob with one spell cast unless you are in NM or Demon and have an 185 or greater magic attack weapon with magic power AND using an overhit nuke. Now if you happen to own said weapon, disregard and go with Demon or NM as you please.
But for most blokes, once you realize that you will fire no more and no less than 2 spells to kill an enemy, it only makes reasonable sense that you will want to cast those spells as quickly as possible in order to increase the amount of kills you get in any given time frame. This is why DC set usually gets the nod.
And did I mention how much more fun it is to hunt mobs that are in clusters of 3-4 in DC as opposed to Demon? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it's not prudent to hunt like that, but just know that in DC, you can. In Demon or NM, your third or fourth spell better be vampyric in nature...that's if you can get it off! :D

Actually, I can take clusters of orcs in BS with no worries whatsoever (wearing DC). What's more, If I pay attention, I can take two groups of bats.
With the mp herbs, the worry of using BtM consistently is not a huge worry.
I would vote MATK robe set + acumen weapon. If you need speed you can switch to e.g. Avadon set which is way cheaper that having two A swords with different SAs.
DC is ultimate set for nukers, but ... geeez I hate the look of it on Dark Elves ... tights with pink and green stripes OMG ... :(

Ditto, hence why I think Maj with the right tatts is a nice substitute. It's no slouch either. It has some nice "other" bonuses like the mana and regen. I don't think NM is that bad either, though with DE's I can see why they would want more casting speed. As for walk speed, play a Human mage and you'll then think your DE is super fast even without DC.

Wizard's tear has magic power SA, but it is rather rare and expensive. In Devianne, it goes almost 2X the price of an elemental sword (low A-grade).

I did that but I am not a nuker. I can't really say if it is the best option for you. And if you decide to go for magic power SA, remember that apart from SOM, there is also elemental(much cheaper).
Between NM and Maj would it be better to get Maj with +int tats or NM with +wit tats.
As great as DC is (stat wise), it's nearly 2x the cost of NM and Maj. We're not all rich. I'm sure any of the robe sets are workable. Maybe not min/max but -1 here or there can't be THAT bad.
Between NM and Maj would it be better to get Maj with +int tats or NM with +wit tats. I'm talking PVE not PVP.
Thoughts?
Depends on your comfort level. If the sacrifice is speed or power, I would give the edge to the set that gave me faster casting as an SH. It's one of two major problems with this class. I view tats as a constant, because you're going to go at least +4 on Int and Wit no matter which set you use.
That said.....
If I couldn't really afford DC set, but could save up to craft it, I would stick with Avadon or Demon and gradually craft DC. (The reality is, this IS exactly what I did for my SH.)
People who buy second best almost always have buyer's remorse...which usually leads to them spending twice as much to get the item that they really wanted/needed in the first place.
