I'm pretty new to L2 (2 mths) and am still curous as to how people get items enchanted up so high with the fail rate the way it is. Do they have pretty much unlimited funds and if the enchantment fails they just start over again from +1...or is there some other way with a much better success rate?
Most of it is dumb luck. I blew 100mil this week to get a +8 Mith Dagger. The rest is B and C Crystals. I blew up enough FP and BW to equip my entire clan.
if you are new, never ever OE anything. it will break, you will be broke and no gear.
I just HATE it when there are new member sin the academy, you help them out, getting some gear and invite them to high lvl groups..then they try OE their new Dgrade(or even later with Cgrade) stuff...poof...and you have to re-equip them again...
OE is for people with extra cash...
It is specifically designed for people who have too much adena as an adena sink.
No matter how good you have it, it could always be better... OE provides that path.
OE people generally take two or more identical items, overenchant one, if it succeeds, they do the other, if it fails they keep the one that didn't break.
Assume you WILL break whatever you are OE.
If you cannot afford that loss... don't do it.

so you re-equip them because they broke their stuff?
Seriously Overenchant is at own risk, if you break something, work yourself back up again.
Stay away from over enchanting weapons! Don't buy them. Don't attempt to make them. YOU WILL NOT HAVE BETTER LUCK THAN OTHERS.

Over enchanting is for suckers, fools, and the in-game rich. If you are not in one of those categories spend your time learning parts of the market system, or how to manor, or learning to play the piano.
Overenchanting is not for you.
If you absolutely MUST try it, do it this way (though I'm warning you--it won't work):
1) get a bunch of ancient adena (from cata hunting plus setting up your own buy shop). You need somewhere in the neighborhood of 960k aa because you're going to do TWO weapons.
2) Get 3.4 million and go to giran and buy two of the top D-grade weapons of choice offerred at the shop.
3) Go to mammon and upgrade both weapons u bought to top D-grade.
4) Open up an afk buy shop for several nights--offer about 1/2 the going rate for 3 ewd's. Someone(s) will sell them too you. Buy 12. This will take you about 2 weeks and will cost you about 4 million adena.
5) Take both Top D-weapons from BSmammon and oe both to +3. This will leave you with 6 ewd's.
6) Take the one you like the least (or the one most to the left--or right--whatever--of your inventory screen if they are both the same) and with it unequiped, while sitting IN THE WAREHOUSE, while singing God Save the Queen, with one of your hands in real life resting in a bowl of warm jello (I like to use lime jello).....go ahead and click on another ewd and confirm.
7) Get up off the warehouse floor and deposit the d-crystals in your warehouse.
8) repeat step #6 but this time change which hand is in the bowl of warm jello.....
9) repeat step # 7.
10) Open a 'sell shop' and sell the remaining unused 4 ewds at market value.

overenchanted my first S grade yesterday and this should give you an idea of how its meant to work unless you are super rich
for starters i needed S grade jewlery
S grade jewlery has only a 70% chance to craft so i bought recipies and gems for 3 earrings
i had all the other mats from manoring (which you are doing now :P)
i crafted all 3 earrings and they all succeded out of pure luck
i took all 3 earrings to +3 and then i went +4 on one of them......
it succeded
i went +4 on the next earring
it blew up
i now wear 1 +3 earring and 1 +4 earring
when i get more mats to craft again ill try for +4 on another one
no messing round for me, i need overenchanted jewlery but im not gonna blow what i have until i can relace it
1. There are very few "new" players in L2. Many of the players that you see with overenchanted weapons at D grade are higher level players (and typically wealthier players) re-rolling another class. Don't get caught up in trying to play the game at their pace. If this is your first character, don't risk enchants until you've first found a viable means of income.
2. Never unfurl an enchant scroll under the Yellow Dwarf, or while standing nearest in favor to either the Red Giant or the Blue Giant. You've been warned. :D

LMAO... That is about as funny as the one about Running to TOI 13 waking Baium, dying, then enchanting while sitting at the front of aden castle.
