Anti-Virus and GameGuard Workaround

As many of you have been dealing with. GameGaurd and some antivirus software don't get along very well. Infact if I have my antivirus on when playing Lineage 2 I have to restart the computer after exiting L2. However there is a workaround for this. Actually there are several but I'm illustrating the bat file method that works with those antivirus programs that run as a windows service. Others may add their method for doing this.

First of all you need to know what windows calls its service.

In XP you go to Control Panel >> Admistrator Tools >> Services
Others can tell you where to go in Window 9x

within the list of services you need to locate the Antivirus scanner. For McAfee AV its called
"McShield"

After locating the service name follow these directions. Replace the McShield with whatever is appropriate for your AV

Step 1. create a blank bat file in your Lineage 2 directory. call it something like LineageII.start.bat or something.
Step 2. Copy and paste this text into the bat file.
------------Start Copy below this line ------------------
net stop "McShield"
net stop "McAfee Total Protection Agent Service"
start LineageII.exe
-------------End copy above this line---------------
Step 3. Save file.
Step 4. Create another blank bat file in the Lineage 2 directory and call it something like LineageII.stop.bat.
Step 5. Cut and past these two lines into the file.
------------------ Start copy below this line ---------------
net start "McAfee Total Protection Agent Service"
net start "McShield"
-------------------End copy above this line-----------------
Step 6. Save and close editor
Step 7. Right click drag the two files to your desktop and choose "Create Shortcut"
Step 8. Rename the shortcuts to read "Lineage II Start" and "Lineage II Stop" respectively.
Step 9. Right click on each shortcut (1 at a time) and change the icon to use the Lineage II icon in the Lineage 2 folder.

There is also some other icons that are available under the Lineage 2/system/window.dll resource as well.

After doing this all you need to do to start the program is double click on Lineage II Start shortcut. When done playing double click on Lineage II Stop shortcut to restart your antivirus.

Also I forgot to mention that the start LinageII.exe command will only work if the bat file is place within the Lineage2 root directory
Need to add some caveats to this. This method is not a perfect solution. It only stops your computer from crashing and hanging up upon exit of the L2 application. Things to keep in mind to minimize your risk is to be connected to a router with a good hardware firewall and have a software firewall as well like Sygate Personal Firewall (SPF). There are good habits as well to minimize your risks also like not browsing the internet or having peer to peer sharing downloads and instant messengers up while playing. Also close down IIS and other broadcasting services including SQL Server and other database services. If you are using WiFi. make sure to use a Security Enabled Access point that YOU trust. Turn off your email client as well.

If you need to have access to internet sites then go to the one YOU trust only.

If you need to have these other services active when not playing L2 then use the same methodology as described above to turn them off and on.

THIS METHOD WILL SHUT DOWN YOUR AntiVirus! but you are reletively safe if you are ONLY playing the game and not doing anything else in background.
